TONIGHT! Marquez v. Jaca

We are LIVE tonight with round-by-round coverage and scoring of the Juan Manuel Marquez v. Jimrex Jaca fight on HBO. Join us for this Thanksgiving weekend fight!

Pick: Give me Marquez by TKO in the sixth. As much as I want to see a competitive fight, I don't think it's gonna happen.

Also, it pains me as a Michigan fan to say this, but I need you tonight, Notre Dame. Make it happen. Go Irish.

ROUND ONE
Kicking off at just past 11pm.

I'll be damned if the first round of this isn't pretty exciting. Jaca is surprising everyone by throwing with Marquez and trading pretty evenly with him. Marquez has landed a few nice shots, and might have stunned Jaca a little bit once, but nothing substantial.

I'm giving this round to Marquez, but Jaca more than held his own. Close round, and a good round.

ROUND TWO
Lederman gave the first to Jaca, but I think that might be bias toward surprise.

Marquez rocked or went off balance about a minute in, couldn't tell right off. Marquez with a nice straight left. Marquez dodges and lands a sharp left. Marquez with a little flurry at the end of the round.

Jaca has a small cut over his left eye.

ROUND THREE
Lederman gave the second to Jaca, as well. I usually agree with Hurrld, but not so far tonight.

Left hook from Marquez early on. Jaca is busier than I expected, but he's not landing much in the way of anything that's going to hurt Marquez, who's boxing as well as usual. Marquez seems to be taking the control here. Right after that, Marquez hits another left. Marquez with another flurry at the end of the round.

Emmanuel and Max are right on about one thing. Marquez looks slower than usual, and notably so.

ROUND FOUR
About a minute in and Marquez makes a charge, but Jaca stands his ground. By my eye, Marquez is clearly in control at this point, as Jaca has failed to do much to knock JM off his gameplan. Marquez with a hard right.

This has been far more competitive than the 4-0 sweep I have so far for Marquez.

ROUND FIVE
Referee calls an accidental headbutt that has caused a decent gash over Marquez's right eye, and it's checked out but we're continuing for now.

Marquez feels the urgency, and he's firing away. Jaca seems to be caught off-guard, and he's not too willing to trade with Marquez in tight. The cut is bleeding pretty badly, we can only hope it doesn't get called on that.

Marquez has the crowd well behind him, as you'd expect.

This was the slowest round of the fight until the cut opened up.

ROUND SIX
Jaca stunned a little on two rights at 2:20. Marquez is really looking for the home run. Jaca deserves a lot of credit for trying to really make a name for himself, not only by fighting Marquez (which you could argue was a gift for him), but by going all-out to put on an entertaining fight.

Marquez is landing some hard shots, and Jaca seems to have had his gameplan disturbed. Marquez has really taken over, and this has been a damn good fight.

ROUND SEVEN
Jaca is showing a really strong chin tonight, because Marquez has unloaded a few times. Jaca seems to want a low blow call, but doesn't get it. Jaca is fighting more defensively than earlier on tonight. Slower round than the normal for this one, but I'm giving it to Jaca, close.

Jaca 10-9
Marquez 69-64

ROUND EIGHT
Cut is checked again at 1:49, after another accidental headbutt.

Marquez again comes back firing after. Jaca is TRADING. This is a WAR now. Jaca is coming AT Marquez. THE BULLS ARE COLLIDING IN MID-RING.

Wow, that was a hell of an exchange.

One minute left, both guys seem spent for the round. Marquez is bleeding heavily, and this might get stopped. Marquez comes back again, after being told by everyone he would win if he decided to let it go. The referee may have been a little out of line there. Maybe a smidge. I have never seen that before. "You're ahead on the scorecards!"

Another super round. I can't say enough about what a pleasant surprise this one has turned out to be.

ROUND NINE
Slow round, both guys might be saving up for the final three, and might still be sucking in air from that furious exchange in the eighth.

BIG left hook with about 20 seconds left puts Jaca on the mat. Jaca stays down, he is just dazed. It's over.

MARQUEZ KO 9

Damn good fight. Jimrex Jaca impressed me in defeat, and Marquez deserves bigger fights.
