Bad Left Hook Fight Night: Contender Finale -- Sakio Bika v. Jaidon Codrington

I'm joining late here because these two are fighting like their lives depend on it. I've got it 2-1, Bika (29-28) right now. We're picking up round-by-round scoring and commentary from the fourth round on.

TURN THIS FIGHT ON RIGHT NOW -- ESPN. THIS IS PHENOMENAL.

ROUND 4
Again, 29-28 for Bika right now.

Codrington thus far is getting caught by Bika's looping, wild punches by staying too far outside. I think Codrington is a real contender, but Bika is no chump. Bika is more experienced in a big fight. This is interesting.

Codrington sticks a jab in and misses most of a 3-punch combo. Bika catches him and he's absolutely unloading on him. Jaidon needs to fight back -- we've seen enough fights stopped. Codrington is doing nothing right at this point after a strong opening round. He's got to get inside on Sakio Bika, or he's going to get knocked out.

Codrington slams the hell out of Bika! Bika's hurt! Codrington turns Sakio around on the ropes and keeps hammering away, but Bika finds his way out of trouble. He's shaken up, though.

Bika AGAIN finds his range, or maybe it's Jaidon losing his. Codrington with some nice body shots. Bika with a big right, Codrington counters with a nice uppercut. They are THROWING BOMBS. THROWING BOMBS.

THIS IS ONE HELL OF A FIGHT.

ROUND 5
I also forgot, if you're tuning in now and didn't catch it from Joe Tessitore -- they knocked each other down in the first round. That was the only round I've given Jaidon.

Codrington and Bika are just trading again, and Jaidon's left hook starts a nice rally for him. They come to a standstill, basically. There's no way someone doesn't get knocked out at this pace. This is all offense.

Hard right from Bika catches Codrington, Jaidon answers back, and backs him to the ropes. Bika lands an uppercut that staggers Jaidon!

Codrington is getting backed into the ropes again, and he's caught with another right he doesn't see coming. AND ANOTHER! Jaidon is hurt. Bika is just waiting for that kill shot -- they're both headhunting.

Bika has to go for it -- AND HE IS! Codrington catches Sakio and backs him away!

Holy SHIT! This is outstanding. OUTSTANDING.

ROUND 6
Nice left hook from Jaidon is the first major punch landed in the round. Well, second, since it was preceded by a decent right from Bika.

Bika is dominating the pacing of the fight, and dictating everything that happens. Bika with two wicked body shots and a left hook upstairs that staggers him. Jaidon is going to have to score a knockout if this stays up. He does have that type of power, though.

Bika's both outboxing and outslugging him. This is, without any question, the most exciting fight I've ever seen Sakio Bika involved in. Amazing 168-pound slugfest.

THEY ARE WINGING HAYMAKERS INTO THE BELL.
MY GOD IN HEAVEN.

ROUND 7
A big slamming left from Bika, and he backs Jaidon into the ropes once again. This time nothing comes of it.

It's getting a little sloppy now, with Bika up to his usual dirtier tricks.

Bika has landed 46% of his punches so far, Codrington at just 25%.

This is the slowest round of the fight. Jaidon is clearly out of gas, and may be on his last legs. The next big Bika shot could be the last.

There they go again -- center of the ring, throwing heavy artillery.

It's not hyperbole -- this is a Fight of the Year candidate.

Bika 10-9
Bika 69-64

Jaidon needs the KO. I don't think he can get it at this point.

ROUND 8
Yeah, Jaidon's legs aren't there. It's so obvious that I don't know how Bika doesn't just come with another flurry, get Jaidon putting his earmuffs up, and going to the breadbasket.

Codrington is landing a few shots this round, but Bika is busier and landing about twice as many punches. Bika is throwing the big shots at the ropes again, and he catches Jaidon with a left that hurts him. Right hurts him!

Uppercut hurts him!

RIGHT HURTS HIM AGAIN!

CODRINGTON IS OUT ON HIS FEET!

STOP THE FIGHT!

OK -- Jesus. He was letting Jaidon Codrington stand there with no defense. Bika didn't even seem like he wanted to keep hitting him.

That's it -- Sakio Bika wins season three of The Contender in a marvelous fight with a marvelous performance.

Jaidon Codrington was beaten, soundly, by a more experienced guy. But Jaidon Codrington is for real, too. No matter who had won this season, they were guaranteed to be the best champion of a Contender tournament, ever. Every fighter in this season was a good fighter.

Sakio Bika TKO-8

Fantastic fight. Fantastic.
