I want to see how Bute handles the 8 inch reach disadvantage. How can you be the same height(6’2) and have such t-rex (70 inch reach) arms?

and we are LIVE in Montreal

I’m hoping Hearns looks good and that the main event lives up to expectations.

Pony up and have Shobox in HD, Showtime.

For serious. It’s been a while since I’ve watched without HD, except the Pavlik PPV which had the usual dull PPV glow, but this is just garbage. PURE GARBAGE.

Hearns-Clavette R1

10-round fight.

Jab from Hearns. Nick says Clavette is “a bit of a runner and a clincher.” Hearns working the jab, goes with a right to the body. Hearns with long shots from distance, not too clean but quick handed. Hearns rocking him from distance, and Clavette really has no answer. Hearns is just stinging him.

Combo from Hearns, very pretty right. He’s completely dominating Clavette, who looks lost as he circles the ring. Right hand from Hearns. And another.

Hearns had some clean right shots…

The venue is rocking. Sad that the Dawson/Tarver fight couldn’t sell out the 2,000 Pearl.

Hearns-Clavette R2

Hearns is forced to chase Clavette all around the ring, which has Clavette fighting off of his back foot. Clavette isn’t doing anything to make this interesting, that’s for sure.

Hearns is trying to bait Clavette to come inside, which is fun to watch in its own way. Clavette is totally overmatched physically and from a raw athleticism standpoint. Clavette is absolutely nothing more than a stepping stone for Hearns to match up with John Duddy in January, or whenver Duddy’s cuts heal from his November fight.

Jet Music…

I think that Hearns power is very overrated… he has landed some flush shots to various fighters but he doesn’t have a championship level punch.

Hearns-Clavette R3

The difference in speed here is just amazing. Hearns isn’t, like, abnormally fast or anything, either. Clavette is slow as molasses.

Weird bit of brawling in center ring with Clavette throwing his arms about and landing fuck all. Getting really sloppy now as Hearns seems to be looking for a knockout shot and Clavette is just warbling about the ring, clumsily rushing in and then trying to get back out before he gets hit.

No holding though, give ’em that. Hearns lands a big left hook, a thudder of a shot, and throws the big rights. Back to the chase, bell sounds.

Hearns-Clavette R4

Couple of big, off-balance shots send Clavette wobbling around near the ropes, and he’s on bad legs and desperate right now. Ties up, but back out of it, and Clavette’s legs look OK now. Just a momentary stun.

Right hand, left hook. Guess who? Hearns throwing the rights at will now. Hearns caught with a couple, mostly, it seems, because he has zero fear of Clavette’s shots. Clavette, bless his heart, is throwing what he can. Hearns with a right, and there’s a hook, and Hearns is just flinging.

Hearns-Clavette R5

This is the mismatch the Hearns camp probably envisioned. Sloppy fight as it goes on, with Clavette warned for a headbutt. Hearns is toying with Clavette at this point, waiting to land big shots on counters more than leading the action. Hearns with a left hook as Clavette comes in. Hearns with long rights, driving Clavette into the ropes, and Clavette is shaky. They call it right: “Now you want to see a finish.” You betcha.

VICIOUS left hook from Hearns, and Clavette ties up to escape the danger.

Hearns 10-9

Hearns-Clavette R6

Hearns continues to dominate, making Clavette look like he has no business being in the ring. Hearns with a vicious right, and he’s unloading on Clavette in the corner. Clavette goes down. Don’t bother, dude. Take the count.

He’s up at eight. He does not look good.

Clavette running for his life. Hearns with a right, right, left, right, and Clavette runs again. Ropes hold Clavette up, so that’s another knockdown. Listen, call the fight. This is over.

Three-knockdown rule is in effect. Clavette continues to run, hitting the ropes HARD. And Clavette keeps running. HE’S NOT FIGHTING BACK. Call the fight!

Hearns doing all he can, and finally the referee waves this thing off. Jesus.

it's nothing to do with Hearns

Just that Ricardo Mayorga would not be in the 154-pound top 15 if you ask me. What’s he done in the last five years? Beaten Michele Piccirillo and Eric Mitchell, plus washed-up fat Vargas. Mayorga is living off of fights from 2003 and his mouth. He’s not a top 15 fighter in the division.

Bute-Andrade R1

Andrade stung with a left down the pipe, and here comes Librado with a charge. Bute ties him up after a nice right lands. Andrade eats a beautiful counter left. HARD left from Bute, and he’s really showing his speed, RIPPING Andrade with left hands. Andrade misses a big right. Bute is really quelling every advance in the first round.

Another left from Bute, but that one just glances. Still, he shot it in there before Andrade knew it was even unleashed. Bute with a jab and another left. Great opening round for the hometown fighter.

Bute-Andrade R2

Andrade walks into a couple more shots. Andrade with a right, but Bute ducks down and takes away any chance to keep the flow going. Right from Andrade. Bute with a combination, Andrade sneaks a right in. Bute is way too fast for Andrade so far — fast in every single way. Hand speed, footwork, anything else you can think of.

Bute is picking Andrade apart, and doing it with seeming ease. This is a lot like the Kessler fight for Andrade. He’s just out of his depth, no matter how tough he is.

Bute-Andrade R3

Bute stings him with a right as he works Andrade around the ring. Big right from Andrade is blocked with Bute’s glove, then Andrade warned for elbows. Andrade with a right, but it’s Bute’s little head shove that gets the crowd going. Andrade misses all four punches in a four-punch combo.

Bute with another combo, then a four-punch flurry. Andrade is getting beaten to the punch, simple as that. He’s not fast enough to box with Bute, who is too good to get lured into a slug-it-out brawl like Stieglitz or Mack did. Andrade wobbled a little with a push after a combination. Bute is boxing circles around Andrade, and this so far is sealing it for me. I really like Librado Andrade and love watching him fight, but a top-tier guy he is not. He’s just not skilled enough for the best in the world.

Bute with a NASTY left hand. Andrade, of course, moves forward like none of this has even happened. Bute is kicking his ass.

Bute hit with two big left hooks, but Bute fires back with three shots moments later. Andrade caught coming in yet again. Andrade chasing like a damned rabid dog, but he’s not getting much done at all. Heads are coming together a lot.

Bute hits him again coming in. There’s an uppercut, there’s a nice left. Andrade keeps working his ass off, but Bute is still all over him.

Bute-Andrade R5

Andrade doing what he can, getting rough inside and throwing what he can. Bute is getting hit a little more than he was in the first three, that’s for sure. Whoa what the fuck was that? Andrade had one leg in the air, grabbed by Bute, and punched Bute right in the head.

Andrade with rights, and he might be changing momentum a little. Andrade coming at him with more head shots. Bute with a counter as Andrade walks in. I think Andrade has decided to make this a war, and Bute is meeting him!

Hard body shot from Bute, and there are some lefts. Andrade with big shots! Andrade coming again, and Bute doesn’t look as confident as he did early on. This is getting VERY interesting in the fifth round.

Andrade with two shots, and I’m on the edge of my seat as Andrade does his thing. Bute loses the round, and I’m telling you, if momentum is going to shift, that was the start of it.

Bute-Andrade R6

Andrade flicking the jab and coming with a hard right. Referee Marlon B. Wright (yeah he does!) is pissed about water in the corner.

Bute with jabs, which are halfway short hooks. He’s staying back and trying to slow Andrade way down, and right now it’s working. Bute with some lefts that miss. Bute trying to lead with lefts, even, putting the jab in the holster. HARD left from Bute. Andrade is way slowed down.

Combo from Bute, the step back and step in two-punch he’s used very well. Andrade put on zero pressure this round. He doesn’t have rounds to give away, he pretty obviously lost the first four. Bute with a left. Bute with another left. Back to the outclassing. Andrade did nothing this round. It wasn’t Bute’s best round, but it might’ve been Andrade’s worst.

And now we enter the second half of the fight. I’ll say this, it’s been just fine to watch and easy as hell to score.

Andrade stalking with long uppercuts. Bute keeps trying to grab Andrade’s leg which is the goddamnedest thing I’ve ever seen, to be honest. Bute with another three-shot combo. Andrade seems to be in Derek Bell-style Operation: Shutdown. Andrade with a right, and walks into another combo. What the fuck, Bute grabbed his leg again! What a weird ass thing to do repeatedly.

Bute with a HUGE combo that pretty much all lands square. You could barely hear the bell over the crowd roar.

Steve Farhood calls Andrade a “poor man’s Antonio Margarito” — sounds about right.

Flush right from Andrade, and there’s a flurry, with Bute throwing back. Andrade is throwing and missing a lot tonight. Like, a ton. Bute has cut most of his offense off. And Nick points it out just after. That’s my line, Nick. “Lotta missing in this fight, Steve.” Mostly from Andrade.

Bute with a long counter left, just a pot shot, but it hit. BLATANT elbow from Andrade, referee misses it. Big combo from Bute. Bute catches him again after avoiding Andrade’s shots. Plain and simple, Andrade isn’t good enough for this level of a fighter.

Andrade hits him with a right, but then Bute shuts him down. Andrade just doesn’t get more than one good shot at a time, and they’re few and far between. Andrade with jabs as Bute holds his right low. Big left from Bute! He’s making it look easy in there.

This fight DEMANDS a Kessler-Bute fight, but I doubt we get it.

Andrade warned for headbutting, and then he eats another bunch of good punches. This is a mismatch in its own way.

Bute-Andrade R10

MASSIVE left hand from Bute, maybe the most flush shot of the fight. It stunned Andrade momentarily, snapped his face right back, and then he simply continued on. He’s a machine.

And that shot busted Andrade’s nose.

Left hand from Bute, looked like a push after, but they’re calling it a knockdown. It happened so fast, that’s just human error, which happens. Bute is all over Andrade as Librado gets up and soldiers on. Wicked right from Bute isn’t called as Andrade does land a right hand just prior. Andrade getting yelled at by Wright.

Andrade is getting fucking mauled in there now. Bute is hammering away, then getting out and making Andrade miss over and over. Great round for Bute.

Gotta score the knockdown even if it really wasn’t.

If Andrade wins this fight, it’ll be a minor miracle.

Bute with more rapid fire shots. I’ll give it up for Bute, he doesn’t need to be fighting this hard at this point in the fight and he’s doing it anyway. And Andrade just. keeps. coming.

Crowd with the “ole” chant.

Andrade with a left hook! Andrade works him into the corner, and Wright is yelling at Andrade again. That was a great shot and the referee killed his momentum. Bute with a combination.

A shit load of BREAK Bute warned for holding again. Turned into a really sloppy round, but again Bute controlled most of it.

Bute 10-9
Bute 109-99

You want to be champ? push it? BAd advise from Bute corner in my opinion…

they're trying to make their guy money

They know they have the better fighter. A guy that fights his ass off for all 12 is likely to get more and more TV spots in America. If he gets on his bike for the final round people will have that in mind.

Bute-Andrade R12

Andrade corner: “We gotta put him on the floor, this fucking guy.”

Stiff left from Andrade. Blatant headbutt moments later from Andrade, and Bute is standing toe-to-toe with him and fighting.

Steve thinks BUte’s legs are gone. Andrade is pressing with all he’s worth! Oh man! Andrade is rocking him around.

About a minute left. Bute with a big right, Bute’s fighting on instinct! Andrade coming, Bute punching! Bute still fighting, ANdrade hits him again! WHAT A ROUND!

Andrade swings and misses, 40 seconds left! Andrade working and working, and he’s trying to get back at him every time they break. Andrade firing! Bute’s hurt! Bute is being held up by nothing! HE’S GOING TO GO DOWN! HE RUNS ACROSS THE RING!

DOWN HE GOES!

ANDRADE CATCHES HIM WITH A FINAL SHOT! IT’S GOTTA BE OVER!

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRIGHT DOING!

Bute is up and he “survives” but what the HELL was that referee bullshit?!

A FIGHT BREAKS OUT!

Oh God. The Andrade corner is going after the referee. That was HORRIBLE.

Andrade 10-8
Bute 117-109

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE

Librado Andrade poured his heart out in the final round, KNOCKED LUCIAN BUTE THE FUCK OUT, and got JOBBED by a hometown fucking referee. I am DISGUSTED right now.

Librado Andrade still isn't awake

This is horseshit. Utter fucking horseshit and that referee should be fucking finished. A JOKE. An absolute load of spit in the face of this sport.

er Bute isn't awake

I’m seriously angered. Andrade hugs Wright because he’s a better man than I am. Marlon B. Wright completely blew this fight.

nothing against Andrade and Bute

Bute did not do this. They hug. They should fight again, too, because this is going to stir it up. I’m going to do anything I can to stir this up. Lucian Bute is a hell of a fighter and he did great for 11 rounds, and then he got knocked out. This should have been among the best finishes of the year.

Big ups to both fighters. They didn’t cause this crap.

up by 9

I’d say that Bute was up by around 9 from my count so even if the ref started counting in time he could have beat the count, right?

by bp on Oct 25, 2008 12:54 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He stopped the count. You don’t do that… It was piss poor refing. It is a shame that a fight like this was decided by the ref and not the two fighters.

by Zocalo on Oct 25, 2008 12:55 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

14

you could count 14 from when he went down right away but that wouldn’t be fair. Andrade has to go to his corner first like any other fighter…factor that in and Bute is up in 9

You are wrong…. I am not going to argue with you but you are utterly and completely wrong. He was in his corner.

No matter what… I want to see both fighters once more. It was a great fight. I am damn glad we all got to see it. Much props for showtime for picking up this fight.

Controversies aside...

I was thoroughly impressed by Bute tonight, and he’s a fighter I would like to see more of in the future. Librado I’ve always loved, but that twelfth round effort combined with the way he got robbed and STILL accepted it and showed respect to everyone was something else.

You’re the man, Librado.

Bute's a hell of a good fighter

None of this controversy stuff is his fault at all. He was impressive all night long, then ran out of gas and got tagged.

Bute was as good as we all expected him to be. He outclassed him for good parts of the fight. The thing is that he caught.

Bullcrap

As a friend of the Grants, let me tell you this, they have been robbed now three or four times in title fights. Anyone see Duddy vs. Smichet, they trained Smichet, Paul Malignaggi vs. Herman Ngoudjo, and now this disgrace. The Grant brothers are class and for Howard to attack a ref, it needed to be something as disgraceful as this. The ref should have no idea of how much time is remaining in the fight. If he gets to a count of 8, the actual 8, and asked Bute to walk forward, he would never had been able to continue. He couldnt continue 24 seconds later. They were robbed again, and lost anothe title to their stable of fighters. The IBF should do the right thing for once. Remove that incompetent ref and reversed this decision. I don’t think anyone would argue and looking at the posts on multiple site 95% of you agree Librado won this fight. Make it right for once!!

by sfp99 on Oct 25, 2008 2:05 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Paulie-Ngoudjo was an underrated, close fight

I scored it 115-113 for Ngoudjo, but that wasn’t even the same planet as this mess. And Smichet beat Duddy, too.

I don’t know if I want to punish Bute by taking his title, but a mandatory rematch would be a good call. Bute didn’t do the wrong things in there.
