Bad Left Hook Fight Night: Steve Molitor v. Celestino Caballero
Our live, round-by-round coverage begins tonight at 11pm ET. The fight will take place on Showtime, once again the go-to guys for these sort of fights that American diehards want to see. Another kudos to the boxing team over at the "other" premium boxing outlet for the States.

Hopefully I'll get to watch
But I might be at dinner. You know work is fun when you’re eating dinner at 11 pm at night. I’ll Tivo it either way. I realize the fight probably won’t be a barnburner, but I find it really intriguing and I’m looking forward to it.

hmm
I’d have to agree with that, I think. If there was one better I’d have to think it’d jump out at me, but I’m drawing a blank.

I REALLY want to see Molitor-Lopez. H2H, I think Lopez is already a P4P level fighter.

I've said elsewhere
I can honestly see this fight being a blowout in either direction or a very close fight that’s hard to score. I can’t say that about too many fights.

Molitor-Caballero R1
Caballero throwing long hooks right away, shooting one to the ribs that appears to get through. Molitor seems intent on ducking to hinder Caballero’s height advantage, make it something working against him. Caballero eats a hard left hand while throwing. Molitor is moving all over the ring. Caballero drills him with a combination while stalking. This is going to be a weird fight, as all Caballero fights tend to be.
Right from Caballero lands. Molitor looks a bit confused so far. Hard right to the body by Caballero, and he slings another one that comes up short. Molitor is dancing on the ropes, circling, ducking down when Caballero charges in. He’s having trouble, Molitor is.
Caballero 10-9

Caballero is showing he's clearly the better defensive fighter
At least at a distance. Molitor needs to get inside and not clinch to throw Caballero off his game. Pretty clear round for Caballero. Molitor only landed one solid shot, Caballero landed a few meaningful combinations and had some good body work.

Molitor-Caballero R2
Molitor tries to shoot the left, misses, and gets on his bike. Three shots from Caballero to the ribs, and Molitor just doesn’t look like he knows what to do with a guy this height. If he doesn’t adjust quickly, he’s going to have problems all night long. He’s not pulling the trigger, and when he misses, he scatters away.
Molitor avoids the big right uppercut that Caballero loves, but he’s still failing to find a home for his shots. Three punches from Molitor, maybe one landed clean. Caballero throwing in bunches, chasing Molitor around, keeping him on his back foot as much as possible. Molitor throws, misses. He’s just short. He can’t fight this guy from distance. He will have to get inside.
Caballero 10-9
Caballero 20-18

20-18 Caballero
The judges probably have it 19-19 though.

Molitor-Caballero R3
Molitor comes out with the lead left, tries to combo it up and fails. Caballero chases him off again. Molitor, as Nick notes, is now trying to time the rushes and counter. I guess it’s better than standing around and/or circling. Molitor’s right hook is blocked, left might have landed a little. Lead left does get through. Still, Caballero is the one dictating, though this is a better round for Steve.
Molitor takes a left, and Caballero starts turning up the heat. Right to the body, right to the head, and Caballero is legitimately fuckin’ dancing now. Left hand misses, but the Canadian crowd reacted so Nick says it landed. Long left from Caballero.
Oh man, uppercut from Caballero right at the bell, and Molitor appeared to be off balance and open, but the bell rang.
Better round for Molitor, still a Caballero round. Better, bigger shots.
Caballero 10-9
Caballero 30-27

Caballero has been the MAN in the ring. Molitor is just going thru the motions I think. There have been some stinging punches by Caballero.

Molitor-Caballero R4
Caballero is just FLINGING his shots now. He appears to have absolutely no fear of Molitor and is all but begging him to fight.
DOWN GOES MOLITOR ON AN UPPERCUT!
he’s hurt. He’ll fight on. He’s not got long. He does not look good.
Caballero with two more shots, Molitor dips again, and it’s over. Luis Pabon stops it.
Wait, they stopped it because Molitor’s corner stopped it. Hey, whatever floats their boat. He was going down anyway.
Sorry, Steve.

Caballero deserves to be top 20 P4P at this point
He has a very underrated record. He has wins over 5 former beltholders at this point, unified, and his two losses came a long time ago and are to another guy who’s top 10 in the weight class and the only man to not lose to Chris John.
