Valuev vs Holyfield, raises questions...
I've been watching a lot of fights as of late, getting myself reaquainted with the great sport of boxing. I've been listening to everyone's recommendations and I've bee seeing some phenomenal action. I came across the information for this bout between Nicolai Valuev and Evander Holyfield. I've always been very familiar with Evander Holyfield's career, but Valuev just completely fascinated me and I did some more research into him and his career. After seeing the man fight, I have some serious questions as to the sanity of Evander Holyfield and his "handlers". I question him getting a title shot in the first place. George Foreman has proved that men into their 40's can be world champions, but this fight makes no sense at all. Who has Evander Holyfield fought lately to deserve this shot? Seriously? The logical explaination is that probably Holyfield lived beyond his means for far too long and he didn't do well with his money... perhaps he needs this fight for pure financial reasons.
Do people really expect Holyfield to compete? Valuev, 7 feet tall... 325lbs... 49-1-1 record... 34 knockouts. I watched "some" footage of Valuev vs Chaguev, that was an interesting bout right there. Chaguev taking the decision from Valuev, at least w/ me watching it, was huge. It was kind of like seeing Rocky beat Ivan Drago, lol.
The only chance Holyfield has is somehow managing to outpoint Valuev. A whole lot of stick and move, get in and get out, stay on your toes constantly... never stop moving....but at 46, can Holyfield still do any of that? I don't think he can. I don't think the man has the stamina to dance with Valuev... trying to trade punches with him could prove deadly.
Having some of your ear missing won't mean a damn thing when Valuev punches your head clear off your body. I'm still trying to get up to speed again so I don't doubt I'm probably missing something here... so whatever y'all think about this fight... I'd love to hear it.

Personally...
I think Wladamir Klitschko would kill Valuev…. now Vitali, those two would make an interesting matchup.

it's an awful fight
And it’s a joke. It has no business happening at all.

I think the reason that nobody is talking about it is that we’re all sort of embarrassed that it’s happening at all.

Get behind your man
Holy wont put in a dire effort like Rahman last week.
But the effort wont be enough to beat this monster. Dont even think its being shown over here at all live. If someone can post a link to some internet stream i would appreciate.
Come on Holy!!!! We can dream..

can't do it
It’s available in the U.S. via PPV and I don’t feel right about giving out links to streams for things that most of our readers can see.
That said, seeing as the U.K. doesn’t have availability…
Justin Sane is the main creative force behind crappy punk rock band Anti-Flag. He does not play an Epiphone Dot. The band is so shitty they’ll never be on TV.

I thought public executions were illegal....
but yeah if someone has a link to this, let me know too…. one way or the other I wanna see it. At least Riddick Bowe was fed a complete can in his lil undercard bout on Klitschko vs Rahman (which I was embarassed for Bowe and his performance even though he did win)

A few things
1) Despite his monstrous size, Valuev is a very slow puncher and doesn’t punch that hard, so I’m not TOO concerned about Holyfield taking a ton of damage in this particular fight. I’d rather he not fight at all, but he should get stung a lot less than he did against Ibragamov.
2) He hasn’t beaten anyone lately. His last “win” against someone other than a punching bag was against Fres Oquendo, and the consensus was that Oquendo actually won and Holyfield got saved by the cards. His last good win was against Hasim Rahman, over 6 years ago.
3) I doubt Holyfield competes. I think that, on style, prime Holyfield would have trouble with Valuev. He always had trouble with tall fighters who can keep him at a distance, and he always did a lot of his damage with his third fist (i.e. his head), and there’s no way he could headbutt someone that tall. For a small heavy, it’s not like Holyfield was ultra-mobile, and while he could win his fair share of rounds by pounding the body and clutching, he also wouldn’t be able to fight his best fight against Valuev. This old, faded version of Holyfield lacks the stamina or quickness to even pose a threat.
Vogt early, Vogt often.

I completely agree with you....
I’m sickened by that whole situation…. granted Evander Holyfield didn’t do anything spectacular, he won that fight and I will admit that my initial impressions of Nicolai Valuev were way off. I gave that guy a lil too much credit. Evander Holyfield should be the champ and I will view him as such…. but he still needs to just retire now, however I think Valuev should follow him to the retirement home because I’ve seen more life in retirement homes than I did out of that guy.

I got one major question
Why don’t judges ever get interviewed after fights?
They should have to explain to us what they saw and not be able to just score a big fight and take off without explanation

Judges are probably the most corrupt thing in the game.

No solution to this problem..
I’d love to hear an explaination to this.
There is no solution to this problem really. The only option I can think of is that the “governing body” (granted they’re not already corrupted) doesn’t release the names of who will be judging the fights and the judges don’t really know until a day or two prior to the fight if they’ll be working or not. Its very “witness protection program”, I know, but no real solution is perfect.
Imagine if they go the American Idol route and have us, the paying customers, judge the fights… lol… that would be nuts.

bleh
Most of the people ringside had Valuev winning, too. That doesn’t change my mind on what I saw, but this is one I’d rather let go.
