Guzman doing his thing early as Diaz looks for a jab, while Guzman finds his a couple times. Guzman dancing defensively, making Diaz miss. Guzman with an uppercut. Guzman keeping his hands low, making Diaz miss everything he tries, then sticking little shots in pretty much at will and opening up with combos when he sees the chance, like there with Diaz against the ropes. Easy round for Guzman. Should be an easy fight, really.

Guzman showing his hand speed to start this round, tagging Diaz in the corner with rapid fire shots, big ones, both to the head and body. Then he gets on his bike after failing to knock Diaz down or even deter him. Guzman’s so defensive minded that he jerks his upper body around in an almost comical fashion at times. He’s a hell of a boxer, but it’s always easy to see why people don’t like him. Guzman paws and throws uppercuts, paws and throws hard rights that miss. Guzman ends the round trying to throw, and gets tagged with a right that he never saw coming just before the bell. Diaz isn’t backing down at all.

There’s an anouncer there from Panama. He literaly spoke about the Valuev fight and just said that guy suck. He’s good for nothing.

I have never heard that. Ever.

Diaz keeps sticking in these little pot shots that I don’t think Guzman has any idea how to respond. Guzman is clearly the superior fighter, but Diaz has no fear and is here to score the upset and make something of himself in one night. It’s interesting to watch. I don’t think Diaz has a hope in hell beyond a miracle shot, and these first three rounds are making that clear, but so far it’s fairly interesting. Could wind up like Guzman-Soto with Guzman just chilling in the latter half, I guess.

Guzman doesn’t seem quite as confident right now as he usually does. I really like how much Diaz doesn’t care about the supposed mismatch factor. Diaz with a nice right, lands a jab moments later, and blocks Guzman’s offensive output. Guzman with a combo, then he swings some more. Diaz catches Guzman after Joanie misses some big shots, and then Guzman throws these bizarre hammer-fisted pot shots, and Diaz throws him into the ropes. I don’t think Diaz cared for that at all, and Guzman was warned for it.

Left hook by Guzman is blocked. Diaz with a body shot, Guzman misses more chances, but then lands a sneaky left before the bell.

Both of these guys are fighting pretty mean-spirited, and Diaz has landed a few good shots, including a right hand there. This is a different planet from the Holyfield “fight” earlier. Guzman sent back to the ropes, and he’s throwing his pot shots but getting HIT by Diaz, who sneaks in an uppercut. Another fine round for Diaz, who seems to be getting under Guzman’s skin a bit. Perhaps Joanie expected this comeback tune-up to be easier.

Diaz swinging and missing, Guzman walking around the ring. There’s a quick flurry from Guzman, but he was too close for what he threw. Pot shots by Guzman again. Now he’s doing his thing. Always going somewhere, quick shots, back out, lather, rinse, repeat.

Back to the Guzman format. Diaz didn’t land much at all this round.

Diaz trying to do work, Guzman pops him in the nose with a quick right and plays D. Guzman with more pot shots. I guess you can argue with how he fights, but he’s a tough fight for anybody, and even though Diaz is faring better than I expected on paper, I still feel that way. Ends with punching. Another round for Joanie.

His lack of landed punches in five of the seven rounds sort of bothers me personally.

Guzman loading up the right, which both fails and looked really stupid. Diaz has backed off his aggression a lot, and I wish I knew why. There’s a couple nice shots from Diaz, and thankfully the referee caught Guzman holding onto the top rope. That was bush.

I think I’m going to abandon this fight. It’s not as important and I think we’re looking at a Guzman decision with nothing exciting.

I’ve got both fights on. We’re going to Soto-Lorenzo II live. Guzman is widening his lead after nine in my view. 87-84 Guzman after 9. That’ll be the end of my scoring. Jimmy Lennon’s on the stick for Soto-Lorenzo II.

Soto with a chopping left to start, Lorenzo backs down. Lorenzo shows little desire to come forward, likely fearing the Soto power that busted him up the last time they fought. Lorenzo comes in, gets backed down. Slapping lefts from both. Uppercut from Soto is blocked. Lorenzo puts him on the ropes and sticks a couple shots. Wild right connects for Lorenzo. Soto drives him to the ropes with power shots, and gets a rise out of the crowd. Another right hand lands once Lorenzo gets it back to the center. Soto drives him back again. Lorenzo is doing a fairly good job covering up on those charges, but eventually he’s getting hit, and we know Soto can hurt him.

Lorenzo’s trouble against Soto also comes from the fact that Soto is a lot taller than him, and Lorenzo always looks like he’s punching up. A lot of guys overcome height disadvantages, but he doesn’t appear to have a good gameplan for doing so. He didn’t the first fight, he doesn’t so far tonight.

Still, Lorenzo is landing a few here and there, and he’s quelled the Soto storm so far in the second round. There’s a counter shot from Soto. Soto with a left, then he stings him with a thudding right hand, and Lorenzo throws his arms around in hopes of keeping him at a distance. It works well enough. Soto throwing power shots, wobbles Lorenzo again near the end of the round, and I think he’s found what works. Lorenzo raises his arm for no reason.

Guzman very wide decision: 120-108, 119-109, 119-109. Love that home cookin’. I thought he was up when I stopped paying attention, but not that big. Get ready for his haters to puke.

I just don’t think Lorenzo can hurt Soto, and with the way Soto fights, that means Lorenzo gets knocked out. Low blow from Lorenzo, apparently. All I saw was Soto go down and act like a fish out of water.

Anyway, it gets restarted. Soto isn’t doing much this round, and now he’s absorbing shots in the corner. Nady warns Lorenzo for clinching and punching. Right hand Lorenzo. He’s starting to look tired already, which is not a good thing. I’ve noticed him taking big breaths a couple times and look off balance during lulls in action. Left to the body by Lorenzo. Another warning from Nady. Lorenzo may have hit him after the bell there. CALL THE DQ!!!!

Lorenzo warned for a headbutt about 7 seconds into the round. Jesus, he is a dirty sumbitch.

Soto getting back to work this round, and he’s got Lorenzo in the corner. Lorenzo’s response is to drive his shoulder into Soto’s gut, turn him around, and push him into the ropes. Lorenzo warned by Nady two more times for his tactics. He is a dirty, dirty bastard. My God. What a rotten fighter he is.

I kind of want Soto to pull a Rocky, grab Soto, THROW him into the corner, and then measure shots to his face. Rocky is awesome.

Trade with Soto in the corner. I think Soto is just trying to get Lorenzo to fight him straight-up because he knows he’ll win the war if not every battle. Lorenzo throwing BIG shots that land, and SOTO FIRES BACK! Lorenzo whines about a punch to the back of the head. What an unlikeable little man he is.

Soto firing, Lorenzo takes it well and fires back himself! He’s got some gumption. Rough round for both. The tactics are wearing on them more than the punches, I think.

Slower paced round for the first half. Soto keeps backing himself into corners. I think we’re building to a Soto KO at some point, but really Lorenzo is outworking him a lot of the time, dirty as it may be at moments.

Lorenzo warned again and sent to a neutral corner. And finally there goes a point. He’s none too happy.

Soto starts bombing away near the ropes, and Lorenzo escapes again. This is a weird kind of fight. It’s just rough. There’s really not a lot of good solid shots, but there’s action.

Oh shit, I thought Soto was going to throw a knee lift. And Lorenzo is getting another point taken. He’s protesting by not letting Jay Nady hold his arm and walk him around the ring. What a child he is.

Soto goes back to boxing, trying to land a jab and work from there. This fight, really, is kind of terrible.

Lorenzo gets off balance, with his right foot coming way off the ground on a short left. What a slopfest this has turned into. It’s fuck ugly.

Really nobody is landing anything clean or crisp. Bowling shoe tendencies. Soto bangs away in the corner after Lorenzo shows some aggression, and now Soto is mixing it up. They fight through the bell. I don’t think these two are going to become friends.

There’s more wrestling and tangling than boxing going on anymore. Lorenzo with a couple big shots, and Soto winds up in the corner. Lorenzo is really throwing the leather. I think Soto might be a smidge taken aback by the fact that Lorenzo didn’t crumble this time.

Finally the TV Azteca guys gave Lorenzo a round.

Soto winging heavy shots now, but he’s the one looking shaken more often than Lorenzo. A lot of that may well be effects from those headbutts. Soto throwing, Lorenzo clinging. Nady warns him for something else, it appears. Who knows? Lorenzo could’ve had five points taken by now. He’s lucky it’s just two.

Man, this is a tough fight to score. It really is.

Soto reluctantly touches glove to start the final round. Lorenzo makes a move, not much comes of it. Soto pops him and shakes him a bit, but doesn’t follow up. Soto goes down on a slip, and the feed cuts, so I go to the other one very fast and save myself. I rule.

Soto stumbles into the ropes, about 20 seconds left and Lorenzo is throwing and throwing. Fight ends.
