Holt-Torres III cancelled; Top Rank looking to save the card
Unfuotunately, the promising fight that a lot of people have been waiting for has been called off. Ricardo Torres as been over the 150 mark and has been unable to make weight. No word if the fight will be rescheduled because Torres is already having thoughts of moving to 147.
For us, the fans, this really really sticks out like a sore thumb. As well as I was I am sure a lot of you had high hopes for this, but now it's off.
SC's Addition:
Boxing Scene says that Top Rank is looking to find a replacement opponent for Holt. Given the short notice, I wouldn't expect anyone good.

Replacement opponent
Mike Alvadaro makes TONS of sense if it’s still sanctioned as a title fight. Alvarado is already training for a December 17 card on Solo Boxeo, and he’s a Top Rank fighter who they’ve been grooming for a title shot. Alvarado’s still a bit raw, but it would make for a decent scrap. MA Huerta is also training for the same fight and would be a respectable replacement.

I feel sorry for this division
With Pacman arriving here… tension builds.
Watching Manny Pacquiao fight live--great...
Watching Manny Pacquiao shadow boxing on the roof of an abandoned building--priceless

Ring online:
The replacement is none other than Demetrius Hopkins.
Hopkins has not been very active. He last fought in November 17, 2007, when he scored a 10-round decision over Enrique Colin in Atlantic City. Hopkins (28-0-1, 11 KOs) had been off because of contract squabbles.
"We were training for an undercard fight against Germaine Sanders," said Ennis, who’s been training Hopkins since 2001. "We took the fight. We were training to fight at 145 pounds, so we only have a few more pounds to go. Germaine Sanders is a pretty crafty boxer, and Kendall is the same kind of fighter, with more boxing. We’re looking to win. This is a big opportunity for Demetrius. We can shut a lot of people up.
"This fight says he can still make 140. People went around talking about Demetrius not being able to make the weight. But Demetrius has been fighting 139, 140 ever since he was in the amateurs. Demetrius is happy to get the opportunity."

Great fight for Holt
He probably kills Hopkins, who’s a glorified clubfighter who’s gotten a number of shady decisions based on his management and his famous last name.

This turned out to be a great fight
Gotta give it up to Hopkins for taking the fight and seizing the opportunity like he did… he came in with an impressive record, guess I have some researching to do to see if Brickhaus is ultimately right about him.

I've never liked D-Hop either
It’s not that I think he lacks talent, I just question whether or not this is really the career for him. He doesn’t seem like he wants it all that much. Plus he flat-out stole a win from Steve Forbes.

Oddly enough...
I “YouTubed” Demetrius Hopkins after I read this, that was the first fight that came up… the one against Steve Forbes… I have to agree, something just didn’t seem right about that.

it was a night of weird judging
The Barrera-Marquez scores seemed abnormally wide, Forbes CLEARLY beat Hopkins and D-Hop is winning by huge margins, and Ponce de Leon blew out Penalosa when it seemed a like a pretty even fight and one Penalosa could have even won. That was the night Manny Steward said, “I give up on judges.”

Well
One of the judges tried to steal it for Hopkins again. I have no idea what fight Julie Lederman was watching. It wasn’t the most exciting fight in the world, but it was competitive, although I thought Holt clearly won at least 7 rounds.
