The dog days of August suck

I just wanted to drop a quick update since it's been three days since anything has been up on BLH. With pro boxing taking the month off, essentially, there just isn't a lot to talk about. I'm tired of harping on the ODLH-Pacquiao situation, tired of talking about a fight that isn't even going to happen (Calzaghe-Pavlik), and the true drive for most of the big fights in the remainder of the year isn't in motion yet.

I can't even come up with any fun lists. Though you can read Graham Houston (one of my favorite boxing writers) and his super original Ali v. X comparisons.

In quick news:

Amir Khan is talking fight with Ricky Hatton for 2009. Classic style matchup right there. (Sporting Life)

The story won't die or resolve itself. Arum's waiting on Oscar. (Boxing Scene)

Wladimir Klitschko's potential clash with Alexander Povetkin looks like it'll be a go, and announced soon. I have no idea why Povetkin wants to rush this fight. (Boxing Scene) Here is an artist's rendering of Klitschko-Povetkin:

Entitled to opinions

Not much going in on this month, but one thing is that I like this website. There are too many opinions elsewhere noth worth reading nor browsing. At least here is stuck to one thing then is tossed out until the real facts are rolled in. That’s why it’s opinion, you can never be wrong or right, however, you’ll always think you are right.

Khan vs. Hatton

Oh that would be nice. I highly doubt the fight comes off, if only because Frank Warren is notorious for overprotecting his fighters, and pulling dirty tricks like calling for a fight and then only offering it on ridiculous terms so the other guy refuses and he can claim that they’re ducking.

Hatton is way too much for Khan at this point. Maybe someday he’ll improve his defense enough to handle a guy like Hatton, but Hatton smashes his chinny chin chin. If Malignaggi beats Hatton, I could see a Paulie/Khan fight down the line though, as Paulie doesn’t have enough power to knock out Khan. Khan is still a brutal KO waiting to happen though – his chin seems mediocre at best, and he leaves it out there way too much to get nailed cleanly.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

2009 makes sense

Khan needs a couple more serious fights before he takes on Vicky Fatton.

I think by then, Hatton would be a good match up

These are some serious dog days

I’m stuck watching the pathetic scoring styled Olympic boxing crap instead.

absolutely not

I loved in a recent chat (I think last week’s) when someone asked Dan Rafael how Olympic boxing is scored, and he said, “No one really knows.”

God, these are the dog days. Aug 30th is a decent worldwide day with Valuev, Mijares and Calderon in action. Then, the fall should be really good.

Amir Khan would be KO’d by Hatton and early! He is no way near ready for that.

I think by summer ‘09, Khan might be ready for Ricky. He’s got more natural skill than Hatton and Ricky seems like he might be on his last legs.

Olympic Coverage

Olympic boxing itself is a very bad joke, but Teddy Atlas’s brutally honest demolishment of it—even as he is in charge of covering it—is tasty sports journalism indeed.

That's what kills me...

Boxing should be a sport that anyone can sit down and watch and understand what is going on. Olympic boxing is confusing as all hell. I’ve skipped on almost all boxing to watch webcasts of handball, judo and water polo…
