Campbell-Guzman may be called off

Rick Reeno and Keith Terceira of BoxingScene.com are reporting that the Showtime clash between Nate Campbell and Joan Guzman may be called off, as Guzman may have reported to a local hospital in Biloxi, Miss., last night to rehydrate after coming in three and a half pounds overweight at the official weigh-in. If he had tried to dehydrate down, there's a very good chance something could have gone medically wrong.

At this point, this fight seems pretty well snake-bitten to me. Boxing Scene is expecting an official decision to reach them within 2-3 hours, so stay tuned over there. As soon as we hear anything, we'll keep you updated here, too.

Gary Shaw isn't mincing words about Joan Guzman, and he's against his fighter, Ali Funeka, facing Guzman tomorrow night:

"He is trying to save Golden Boy's show. This is not my date, this date belongs to Golden Boy, who did not monitor the weight of their fighter. I have thought about it and it is definitely not a go until I speak with Funeka and his team. I think Golden Boy should step up and renegotiate Guzman's purse. "Boom, body shuts down, no more pounds come off - I’m training just to move that weight. No water, no food. We go to Mississippi one week before the fight. I’m only about 138lb so eat chicken and broccoli, and then go running, but I lose nothing. Then more running, I lose nothing. The food stays in my body. Training doesn’t help; there is no sweat, twenty minutes in the sauna, no sweat. I feel bad and work for two days without any sweat. The day of the weigh in, I’m throwing up blood so the doctor checks me and says I cannot fight."

I disagree that there was anything close about Bradley-Campbell's first two rounds, but you can never deny that Nate Campbell is a funny dude.

Nate Campbell gave an exclusive statement to BoxingScene.com about the potential fight between himself and Floyd Mayweather Jr., which is not a done deal but now seems to be the lead rumor for Mayweather's March 13 date.

"[W]ho else between 140 and 147 can bring the kind of fight that I can? I have solid HBO ratings for all my HBO fights over the last few years, and I have the style that can beat Floyd. And besides, everybody dont know this, but Floyd DID turn down a fight with me several years ago. He called it 'slave wages' or something. So theres some unfinished business between us, and now's as good a time as any to straighten it."
