jesus, Vs.

Showing Tye Fields isn’t going to get passers-by hooked in. Now that Top Rank doesn’t own your TV show, put those fights in a trash can and burn them.

Arreola looks like he's spent more time at the tattoo parlour than ont he treadmill

Motivation will be his downfall, eventually.

Arreola-Garcia R1

Dr. Lou seems like he’s about half-awake.

Right from Arreola, and Garcia backs him into the ropes. Arreola opens up with some shots as he squirms away. Garcia pinned in the corner, and that’s not good news. Garcia trying to test Arreola’s soft body. Jesus, Arreola is out of shape.

Arreola with a big combo, slamming to the body and going upstairs with a left. Uppercut sticks Garcia, then Arreola with three straight free punches with the left hand. Garcia is presenting very little resistance.

Combo again from Arreola. It’s actually pretty surprising that Garcia has stayed on his feet this round.

Arreola 10-9

Ugh

Once upon a time, Arreola at least moved his head. It just seems like he’s stopped improving. Disappointing, because he still has good potential if he tries to learn and stay motivated.

Arreola-Garcia R2

Garcia comes out jabbing, trying to keep Arreola the hell away from him. There’s just no way he lasts 10 rounds, even with Chubby Checker here.

Slapping lefts and a right uppercut from Arreola. Arreola with another combo. This is sparring. Bad sparring. HUGE right uppercut from Arreola cracks Garcia and snaps his head back. Garcia threw an uppercut in there, too, but not as impactful.

They’ve tied their arms together so they can throw short uppercuts, and here comes Arreola, tagging Garcia repeatedly. Garcia is smiling a lot. Too bad he’s not punching.

Garcia hit with two left hooks and a SICK uppercut, then Arreola smacks him a couple more times before the bell sounds.

Arreola 10-9
Arreola 20-18

Arreola-Garcia R3

These two are lovin, touchin, squee-e-zen each uh-theeeer.

I’ll give Garcia credit for toughness. Lots of guys would have gone down by now. Whoops, spoke too soon. He’s hurt, and Moret calls this thing off as the ropes hold Garcia up while he eats shot after shot.

Now that the David Haye sweepstakes is over

maybe he’ll fight someone like Hasbeen Rahman next. That would be a decent test, even against this faded version of Rahman.

This fight showed both the best and the worst of Arreola

Best:
- Great inside fighter
- Good combo puncher and able to come from all angles
- sometimes lethal uppercut
- Able to absorb shots
- Decent handspeed

Worst:
- questionable motivation / training (the fact that he started out training with James Toney speaks miles)
- questionable stamina
- doesn’t even attempt to even try to move his head or body unless a punch is coming straight at him
- Abysmal defense

The problem is that all the things that are worst about him can be fixed, other than slow footspeed, but if the motivation isn’t there, he’ll never actually fix his flaws.

I've never loved the guy

I want him to climb the ladder because he makes watchable fights with his style, but I have no confidence in him to become an elite heavyweight. A guy that shows up this out of shape for a TV fight, no matter the opponent, gives the air of not really giving a shit.

Quick hands, but didn’t look powerful at all, despite the TKO. Kinda reminded me of a mini-Malignaggi

That one probably wasn't worth it

The last guy at least looked like he could be something. This guy looks like a future regional-level fighter. Gets caught way too much for someone with that defensive style, just doesn’t seem to have the reflexes to pull it off.

Williams-Kolle R1

Williams wanting to use the jab, Kolle flicking his out there as well. Kolle with a right, and Williams fires back with two flush left handed shots, one that really drives him back. Williams has a body that should be in the heavyweight division. He’s just so big. He makes Kolle look little.

Slappy left from Williams. Combo coming, BIG left, and Kolle is down. He’s done.

Paul Williams KO-1

Well, yeah, he can fight at 160. Kolle wasn’t near Williams’ level.

Glad Versus got away from Bob Arum

Even the time waster bouts are better than the Top Rank main events that were on Versus.
