Sakata knocked out in the second, loses WBA flyweight title
via d.yimg.com
Denkaosan Kaovichit knocked out Takefumi Sakata in the second round last night to win the WBA flyweight title in what has to be seen as a pretty good upset. Kaovichit, 32 years old and now 46-1-1 with 20 knockouts, is a Thai fighter who drew with Sakata in '07, and his only career loss came against Eric Morel in 2002. Still, he'd never beaten anyone near the level of Sakata (33-5-2, 15 KO).

Missed this one
But there are two title fights on TV here (in Tokyo) tomorrow night, so I’ll try to catch them. Based on the opponents, I expect an unhappy night for the Japanese. Genaro Garcia is fighting some Japanese guy who just was given a paper title, and Yusuke Kobori (who also has a relatively paper title) is fighting some unknown Namibian with an undefeated record and lots of KOs, but who seems to have fought tougher comp than Kobori has.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
