nice HD for track and field
Is it too much to hope for HD for boxing?

I think they handled the belt right. It’s not the real world championship — but it means a hell of a lot to the fighters, and we shouldn’t forget that.

Also....
The shorter version of the Emmit Smith ad is so much better than the long one. In the long one, he can barely keep the grin off his face. In the short one, when they talk about his gray beard, he looks so despondent.

Mosley says they should not punish Margarito… they should punish the trainer. “The trainer knows better”.

Shane says:
1. His personal doctor said it “must be plaster.”
2. Shane saw the knuckle pad, and said it looked like “regular knuckle pads” to him.
3. “I don’t think the commissioner should do anything with Margarito.” He puts the blame squarely on Javier Capetillo.
4. “I’m getting tested all the time. You can test me any time of the week, ‘cause I know I’m clean.”
5. He wants the fight with the most money.

I hate that they have Pacquiao ranked at welterweight, but for the most part they’re solid. There will always be disagreements, but the Ring (and boxrec for that matter) beat the shit out of the body rankings.

Teddy's take rules
Spivey: “You only know one way. Come forward and throw punches from bell to bell. No reason to wait.”
Spivey took the fight on one week’s notice.

Decarie-Spivey R1
Spivey trying to come in with a jab, shoots a right to the body. Spivey is the active fighter, mostly throwing his jabs. Decarie is feeling him out, now fires a left to the ribs. Decarie misses over the top. Decarie with a jab and that left to the body again. Spivey on the ropes, and he fires back. Decarie with a right, partially blocked. Spivey looks perfectly OK considering the short notice, really.
Nice right from Spivey, then a short flurry. Fairly close round, but Decarie basically gave away the first minute.
Spivey 10-9
"I was trying to rob him. And he took my gun from me. And the gun was full of blanks. And he shot a blank into my eye. And now I cannot see from this eye ever again, the doctors say."

Decarie-Spivey R2
Spivey is perfectly willing to take Decarie’s jab in order to come inside, and Decarie isn’t doing much with his height and reach advantage. Spivey stumbles, and now Decarie is throwing some. Spivey ties him up and gets a reboot, but Decarie did a little damage downstairs. Three shots from Decarie, one from Spivey. Decarie with a short right inside, and Spivey thunders back at him. Spivey clipped with a jab as he ducked too soon and the shot came down on him as he was near a squat.
Left to the body by Decarie. He’ll probably keep picking up the rate.
Decarie 10-9
19-19

Decarie-Spivey R3
Decarie makes a charge as Spivey keeps flicking the hands. He’s thrown over 200 punches now to Decarie’s 80 or so. He probably won’t get any favors in Montreal, but if this was neutral ground you’d have to wonder if his activity would be impressing judges. NASTY right from Decarie, followed by a left hook. Spivey banging inside, Decarie gets a short right in again.
Spivey is eating some shots to the body, and then Decarie comes upstairs with a left hook. Decarie is starting to land some really big stuff, and that has slowed Spivey right down. Great round for Decarie.
Decarie 10-9
Decarie 29-28

Decarie-Spivey R4
Spivey sure didn’t show up in the tank or just looking to cash a check, you gotta give him that. For one week’s notice, he’s damn sure here to fight. He’s being beaten up pretty handily the last couple rounds, but he’s still fighting. Decarie is landing solid, clean shots.

He’s landing the better shots and landing more accurately. Spivey is busier but most of his stuff is going so far as to hit Decarie’s gloves.

Decarie-Spivey R5
I’m just sort of watching this one — it’s not really interesting. I won’t lie. Spivey is a gatekeeper at best and I don’t see Decarie ever competing on the world level.

Spivey gets a point taken for holding with 27 seconds left in the round. That pretty much puts him in a huge hole. He held on after getting stung with a right.
Decarie lands the right almost at will this round.

Decarie-Spivey R8
Spivey nearly gets another point taken, and now he’s holding AGAIN. Now it’s time to take another point. Wait nope another warning, “Next time it’s two points.” Spivey has all but thrown in the towel and this has become tedious to watch.
And Spivey is holding yet again, but Teddy’s right in that Decarie was just about as much to blame.
And now there’s another one point off for the holding. “Next time I’m gonna disqualify you. If you don’t want to fight, put your knee down, I’ll count ya out.”
Decarie 10-9

I think Decarie is going for the DQ
He’s falls in, lets Spivy wrap him up, waits a minute, then flails wildly and ineffectually to make it look like Spivy won’t let him go.
I’m not going to say Spivy isn’t holding too much, but Decarie is looking for the easy way out.

I wanted to be sure about this so I checked back:
The IBF rules (the rules of the Bute-Andrade fight) state that the fighter only has to be standing if the round has ended. So Teddy’s off on this one.

More of the same this round. Spivey is hanging on trying — and now Decarie all but drags Spivey to the ground as they hang on. This has gotten pretty fucking awful. Decarie with a left hook when they start over, and now Spivey fires back.

This fight stinks. Spivey went from an admirable first half of the fight to a pretty rotten second half. Decarie can’t punch for shit or this would be well over. Spivey’s still eating some clean shots and throwing now and again, but he’s tired and knows it’s over.

Teddy talks about Decarie being fine technically but needs to get a lot better and has few athletic gifts. That’s a perfect, honest summation of Decarie. He can handle himself in there but what could you really see as his projectable future? Bigger Steve Forbes?

Ngoudjo-Urango R1
Right away their feet tangle up. Urango lands a lazy right hook as he stalks Ngoudjo. He’s trying to trap him in a corner, and Ngoudjo is just moving around. Urango with another lazy hook. Ngoudjo is making Urango miss, awesomely ducking under a right hook. Urango’s hand speed is so massively lacking.
Urango does land a couple, and now drives Ngoudjo into the ropes. Nice body shots. Ngoudjo felt those, no doubt. Ngoudjo has done nothing offensively in this opening round, either. Urango is just FLINGING leather in there. He’s throwing hard and with intent.

Ngoudjo-Urango R2
Ngoudjo throwing a little more early in the round, but he’s being chased to the ropes a lot. Urango wants him there. He smells blood every time. Urango is feeling the right hook, and feeling work to the body. This is pretty fascinating to watch so far. Ngoudjo seems to be having a hard time finding his rhythm, because it relies on not getting hit by Urango’s wide power shots. He’s a better straight puncher and landed some this round, but I think he’s still a half-step off.

DOWN GOES NGOUDJO!
And he is hurt! What a ROCKET of an uppercut!
Wow, I was just about to say Ngoudjo was looking better. He’s up and fighting on, and Urango is POUNCING!
Urango is throwing with wild abandon! Ngoudjo is avoiding it pretty well! A little over a minute to go in the round, and Urango might be punching himself out. Ngoudjo seems to have his balance back.
Urango is leaving his feet he’s throwing so hard. Ngoudjo falls — but he slipped there, and clearly so. Good call by Wright.
Ngoudjo is down on a left hand! He’s in trouble now. 20 seconds left.
He’s up and fighting on.
Urango firing, Ngoudjo better get on his horse. He’s caught on the ropes again, and Urango is hammering to the body. Round ends. WHAT A ROUND FOR JUAN URANGO!

Ngoudjo-Urango R4
Urango tags Ngoudjo with two more left hands to kick off the round. Long, hard shots. Urango warned for going a little low. Marlon Wright backing up the Montreal man.
Ngoudjo seems more concerned with not getting blasted than he does doing anything offensively. There’s a couple shots from Herman. One, two, three power shots, blocked by Ngoudjo. Just like that too: 1, 2, 3. Ngoudjo is overly concerned with a firefight breaking out. He knows he can’t win it.
Ngoudjo, though, did turn it up in spots here, and avoided the power shots better. I still think he lost the round.

Ngoudjo-Urango R5
Urango goes viciously to the body with right hooks. Teddy had a 10-8 in the third? How? Teddy struggles to explain it.
Urango throwing again, but here comes Ngoudjo! He’s got the better hand speed for sure, but I’m not sure he can dent Urango. Ngoudjo throwing the jabs. Urango has landed two jabs for the record.
Ngoudjo’s movement looks better this round, but he’s still leaving himself straight up too often. Urango pounces on the ropes, Ngoudjo escapes. The styles are really clashing now, and it’s pretty damn fun. We’ve been treated to some pretty wicked fights this month.
Urango throwing again. Bell sounds — better round for Herman.

Ngoudjo-Urango R6
Punch stats say Urango took the last round, so I’ll take the heat there. I thought Ngoudjo looked a lot better that round in staying out of Urango’s wheelhouse. Probably put too much stock into it.
And I think he’s still doing OK this round, but there he is backing into the ropes again. He’s afraid of Urango’s power, and he should be. Urango landing a few when he closes the gap. Ngoudjo is a gazelle against a lion when Urango lands from outside.
Urango and Ngoudjo mixing it up, Urango taking the better of it.
Urango 10-9
Urango 59-53
It’s at this point I start worrying about the hometown advantage.

Ngoudjo-Urango R7
Teddy with a very heartfelt tribute to Jose Torres. Well said, Teddy.
Urango is an animal in there, constantly stalking. But Ngoudjo is landing this round, landing good, sharp shots and dictating the pace a lot more. He’s getting in closer and that’s where he needs to be. Two nice shots from Urango, a left and a right. Hard shot for Urango, and some body work. Hard round to score.
Ngoudjo 10-9
Urango 68-63

Ngoudjo-Urango R8
Body shots last round: Urango 24/31, Ngoudjo 0/0
Nice stat, and that can add up, even now. I agree with Teddy (obviously) that it’s better to do it early, but it can still make a difference at this point.
Teddy has it 76-76 through seven…which is impossible and no one seems to notice the bad math. Considering the most points a fighter can have right now is 70, it’s hard to have it 76-76. Teddy has it 66-66 for the record.
Urango is aggressive and pushing hard. I just…I dunno. Something about Ngoudjo escaping and hanging on and landing essentially only jabs isn’t pressing my buttons.
Urango 10-9

Ngoudjo-Urango R9
Urango pops to the body. And they fix the scorecard finally. He has Urango up 77-75. Teddy with his chickenshit 10-10 opening round. I think he’s contractually obligated to score a round 10-10 in every main event.
Urango continues to bang away, press Ngoudjo into the ropes, and Ngoudjo is letting it happen. Nice shots from Ngoudjo, though, as he works away on the inside and steals the round at the end. I thought it was up for grabs before that.
This fight is going to be interesting on the cards.

Ngoudjo-Urango R10
I’m sorry, but I might just be fuck blind tonight. I’ve had my share of bad scoring before, but I’m just not seeing what Ngoudjo is really accomplishing tonight. Teddy has halfway fallen in love with Ngoudjo, and I like what he’s doing on the inside, but most of these rounds have been won by Urango’s harder, cleaner shots. Ngoudjo is tying up a lot, but so is Urango. I think Urango spent too much energy early.
Urango warned again about a low blow that I don’t think Marlon Wright even saw, but Ngoudjo complained so hey.
Hard shots thrown by Urango with Ngoudjo on the ropes, but not enough to take the round. I think it’s more that I don’t LIKE how Ngoudjo is fighting. I’ll admit my bias.
Timekeeper is WAY off here I think. They’re calling him on it too. This is going way too long. Teddy thinks we’re at least 30 seconds over. I dunno?
Ngoudjo warned for holding. Maybe the ESPN clock was wrong. Ngoudjo is taking advantage, and I’m scoring as long as they fight. What the hell is going on?
Well this is fucking bizarre. This round is at 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
This is fucking insane and finally the fucking bell sounds at nearly five minutes. Unreal, and indefensible.

Ngoudjo-Urango R"11"
Ngoudjo stumbles just past the opening bell, but nothing comes of it. Both guys have to be dog tired right now. That round was nearly two times too long.
Wright calls time to get Ngoudjo’s tape fixed.
Ngoudjo looks more worn out than Urango. He has had to work harder to stay in the fight. He’s working hard, but Urango is just so sturdy, barely takes a backward step at all, and is winning this fight in my view.

Ngoudjo-Urango R"12"
Lotta respect between both guys.
Urango comes out throwing ridiculous power shots. He wants the knockout, and he’s smart to fight for it probably. Teddy says he has it 105-104 for Urango despite the TV saying 106-102 for Urango. Whatever. I don’t know.
Urango is the man pressing. Ngoudjo is the man in his hometown. Ngoudjo with a few pepper shots, then he ties up when he hits the ropes again. I do agree with Teddy that Urango has done “too much smothering, not enough punching” on the inside.
Pretty good fight, but it got sort of clumsy and awkward in the last few rounds. The cards will be interesting.
