Amir Khan
Hey guys .. hope you are well.. this is my first post ... :)
How do you rate Amir Khan? He is very slick fighter and very fast hand speed! I am looking forward for his next fight!
His next fight might be in December, Freddie Roach trainer did very good job with him... Have you ever watched his fights? If not,you can check it out on youtube.
Khan won the WBA World Light Welterweight Championship title against Andreas Kotelnik !

I like Khan a lot despite his terrible chin. Roach did a great job convincing him that even against a soft hitter like Kotelnik, Khan needs to box, not worry about the KO, and not leave himself open. If he avoids getting tagged on the chin, Khan still has an excellent future. He’s top five in the sport in hand speed, has a great amateur background, and doesn’t really seem like he’s quite as arrogant as he’s sometimes made out to be.

His focus is what really impressed me in his fight with Kotelnik; stuck to the game plan the whole time. He is very unpopular in England and in Scotland many are indifferent towards him. His unpopularity could be because of a whole range of reasons, about which there has been quite a lot of speculation, but regardless of that I actually think he could get more fans in America than in his home country. Sad but true.
I rate him as having great potential and really hope that he goes on to test himself because I find him fun to watch fight.

I think he showed a lot of heart to come back from the Prescott KO and he worked really hard to cover his weaknesses, and he’s exciting to watch, even when on the back foot, with those chin issues. He comes across a genuine kid too and I hope he does well.

Khan seems to be a polarizing figure
Some people think he’s the best thing since sliced bread and a future all-time great, while others think he’s a china chinned fraud who will always get exposed against a puncher.
Personally, I think he’s somewhere in the middle. I like him, and he’s a legitimate beltholder, but his shortcomings means that he’ll probably never be able to consistently beat the elite fighters out there. He does have excellent handspeed, workrate and stamina, which are all very strong points in his favor, but his defense leaves something to be desired, and his chin is as bad as I can remember for a top level fighter. Fortunately, Freddie Roach seems to be training him that the best defense is a good offense, and if he’s always throwing punches and moving backwards, it will be tough for anyone to land a hard, clean shot on that fragile chin of his.

I pretty much agree. He has cracks in his defense. Very impressive handspeed. He could improve though in time.. He’s not quite elite ,but a good excellent fighter.

amir
gets an unfair press – locally.
this salita fight will get him onboard with the new york fight scene.
quite honestly, i see salita beating him. just an opinion…

I don't agree with either statement
Salita has little chance to beat him, IMO, and the New York fight scene generally couldn’t care less about Salita. He was with a major promoter, but he was dumped once DiBella figured out that the kid just isn’t a draw.

Nah
This just isn’t accurate. Salita was definitely selling tix at Hammerstein. It wasn’t exactly hard to see who was there for Dmitri, and they always turned out big time. He has a loyal, dependable New York flock. Salita pushed to get out of his contract with Dibella, not the other way around.
Now, he hasn’t had enough big opponents or been on enough major undercards to know if that will translate to a broader appeal, which may in fact be the main reason behind the spolit. But there’s nothing to indicate a larger fanbase would be prohibitive. He’s been a part of several sell-out nights for BB. Then again, sometime it just doesn’t work out, even with a lot of press and media help. Look at Chad Dawson.

Scott ur bang on the money when you say he is not as aragont as he is made out….. i actually don’t know why people think he is aragont, probably because most people here in England see a yound kid have some talent and then jump str8 into the pro game at 18 (I think). He is a lot more grounded and humble than most people think.
As for the fight, apparntly Kahn will be training in the wildcard gym again, but Roach will be in the phillipenes with Manny helping him prepare for Cotto, anyone suspect any problemes for Kahn because of this??
As for me, another wide UD or maybe the ref stepping in mid/ late rounds as Kahn smothers him with his hand speed.

Roach and Manny will be back in the States for the last bit of training for Cotto-Pacquiao, which should give Khan and Freddie plenty of time. The first fight Amir trained with Freddie was on the same day as Oscar-Manny, and Khan won that one. He should really have no problems with Salita so I doubt it’ll really mean anything.
