David Haye believes in Audley Harrison

Audley Harrison hopes to get a shot at David Haye next year. Haye believes his fellow Brit heavyweight can do some damage in the division. (Photo via www.boxnews.com.ua)

David Haye spoke with Sky Sports (link via BoxingScene.com) and backed fellow Brit Audley Harrison's delusional hopes of being world heavyweight champion someday. Harrison, 37, recently won the Prizefighter tournament, which was nice and all but really means nothing as he fought a pack of nobodies, and the entire tournament seemed set up to get a Harrison-Danny Williams final which went up in smoke when Williams lost in the first round.

I'm going to virtually play "Point-Counterpoint" with David Haye's quote here.

David Haye, Point:

"I definitely think he can. He showed a lot of good stuff in that tournament. He got like two stoppages in three fights. He won them all pretty comfortably. He was fighting a lower level than he has been fighting in the past. If he can take them same performances and do them at a higher level [like] the British level, the European level, the Commonwealth level - then he's definitely in the right direction," Haye told Sky Sports.

"But it's definitely a good step back. He's had a bad form as of late. He needed these three wins on the spin to get some momentum back in his career and get all the eyes back on him. If he can keep the same momentum going, he can potentially beat good people."

Myself, Counterpoint:

"Nah."

In an as-usual interview with Harrison, he recently said he hopes to fight Haye next year should Haye beat Nikolai Valuev to win a slice of the world-recognized heavyweight title pie in November.

Thought I was seeing things with the headline

Nice point-counterpoint….I guess its nice that someone apart from Audley believes in him though.

It behooves Haye to talk up Fraudley

Haye-Fraudley would still be a big fight in the UK, and it would seem to be a good option for Haye if he loses to Valuev. Talking him up now might make his inevitable knockout victory seem more impressive.
