Dan the Shill
As some of you know, Dan Rafael gave the Dirrell-Froch fight to Froch for his "physical" and "relentless" style. He even mentioned in the recap that Dirrell was the one trying to wrestle:
He ran, he cried to the referee about just about everything and he held. And grabbed. And wrestled.
What the hell? Seriously? What's with the subjectivity? Why doesn't Dan mention the cheap shots and tricks that Froch did?
I always thought Dan was pretty good at judging matches (much better than Kieran), so I couldn't figure out why he saw Froch as the winner of more rounds. I checked on the comments for his recap, and in all of the pro-Dirrell posts, I found the answer I was looking for. Dan is just a shill for Showtime! It did not matter who won to him, he just has to justify the victor. I think this explains a lot, and why when Dan is questioned about his decision, he can only respond with childish responses ("You go rewatch it" "If, if, if... Whatever." "I didn't care who won"). Actually, that third response backs up the shill theory.
Here's the comment that showed me the light, from user akfak_retlaw:
I really wish this was on HBO and they had CompUBox. You shouldn't judge a fight just on the punch stats, but if this fight had it you would easily see how full of $hhitt Dan is. He is clearly just being the mouth piece for the tournament and lost any kind of objectivity. Showtime put him in their little build up program and he's not going to say anything negative about the tournament. This was a garbage hometown decision and Dan's analysis of the fight is so off base that there can be no other explanation other than him wanting the tournament to look good. What a joke!

Dan Rafael is not the only one that felt Froch won the fight, and in a lot of cases he calls out networks, promoters, fighters, sanctioning bodies, etc., on their crap. I’m not saying his increasingly childish retorts to anyone who dares question him are interesting or worthwhile, but he’s not all bad, and he’s also the end of the line for most news pieces, since he’ll only run something if he personally knows for sure, which sometimes makes him look kind of bull-headed (e.g., “That’s just a bad internet rumor!” and then four hours later it’s run as a news story by him), but hey, we all have faults.
He’s not all good, but he’s certainly not all bad, and he’s reliable.

Dan has his good points and bad...
like anyone else. I commend him for his accuracy though. He doesn’t put false rumors out there.

If punchs stats were used for arguments
More people would think Clottey beat Cotto, like I did.
Also Dan’s not far off at all. The clinching preceded most if not all of Froch’s punches.

Clinching is legal. Rabbit punches are not.

Pretty much… but somehow refs are too stupid to realize that fact.
"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."

I really don’t get the leniency of some boxing refs. I don’t like people who say boxing is doing really badly compared to other sports but it’s fair to say that the refereeing is amongst the worst. I appreciate that it isn’t easy to control a fight but reprimanding people for obvious fouls just seems so, well…obvious.

Punching near the base of the skull is one of the most dangerous things you can do in a ring. That’s pretty much where the permanent “off button” is for every living thing with a spine. He got away with an awful lot of those shots.
