Mandatory Eight Count - the announcement edition
Joshua Clottey vs. Carlos Quintana Official | ESPN
According to newly clean-shaven scribe Dan Rafael (aren't bets fun?), Joshua Clottey will officially face Carlos Quintana on the Pavlik-Williams undercard at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City on December 5. The fight won't be for a belt, and will be a 10-round fight at a catchweight of 149. It's a solid matchup for both fighters that should improve the winner's ability to get big paydays in the future.
Amir Khan vs. Dmitry Salita Official | Khanfans
The fight will be in Newcastle, England on December 5. Fortunately for us Americans, we already have a much bigger fight scheduled for that day, so we can pretend it's not even happening. And if we really want to watch a daytime fight going on in Europe, Marco Huck vs. Ola Afolabi should be much better. The Jew vs Muslim promotion (that Frank Warren claimed wouldn't happen) has already started.
Dimitrinko-Krasniqi II Official | Eastside Boxing
Because what we really need is more rematches of fights that weren't competitive the first time. I realize Dimitrenko wants to get back on track after losing to Eddie Chambers in lopsided fashion, but there has to be a better option out there than to face someone he's already soundly beaten.
Edison Miranda back in action | 15 Rounds
Edison Miranda will be back in action with his new promoter, Goosen-Tutor, and his new trainer, Dan Goosen, on October 22. He'll be facing Francisco Sierra for a WBO regional title. Manuel Quezada (who's ranked an absolutely absurd #4 by the WBC in the heavyweight division) and Malik Scott will also be on the card.
Mayweather becoming a crossover star? | Associated Press
According to the article, Mayweather has a reality show in the works and is being offered movie roles and guest spots on TV shows. Most of the article is just Ellerbe spouting off a bunch of the same unverifiable pro-Floyd stuff he always talks about (a lot of which has been discredited in the past). It's pretty amazing how the most mainstream media outlet seems to let the most slide in this respect.
Pacquiao wants to fight in Dubai | Gulfnews
Bob Arum has been saying he wants to put a big fight in Dubai for years now, but this is the first I've heard of Pacquiao saying the same. For it to happen, someone with big money would need to spend big money to get the fight to come there. Based on Arum's quote, it sounds like he would want someone to lay down about double what a Vegas casino would lay down for a site fee for a megafight. For what it's worth, Dubai has a very large Pinoy minority population.
Dzinziruk calls out Spinks for unification | Fightnews
Sergei Dzinziruk, currently a promotional free agent after leaving Universum, has decided to 'handle his own destiny' and has called out Cory Spinks for a unification bout. It's a pretty ballsy move to call out Spinks, who doesn't have much of a following and who is tied to Don King. King has a long reputation of getting an unreasonable number of options on opposing fighters, and if Spinks says yes, the Dzinziruk will probably get stuck with King for a while, who likely wouldn't represent Sergei's interests any better than did Universum. Still, with Williams not facing him, it's not like there are too many options out there. Here's an idea - with Sergio Martinez running around and calling everyone a p*ssy, why not make a Dzinziruk-Martinez matchup?
Kaovichit defeats Daiki Kameda | AFP
Thai titlist Denkaosen Kaovichit was able to defend his title by defeating spoiled brat Daiki Kameda by scores of 115-113, 115-113 and 114-114 in Kameda's backyard. I'm sure this isn't the last we'll hear of Kameda, but I hope it is. His actions, and the actions of his family, in the Daisuke Naito fight were an absolute disgrace. Losing that fight, his trainer/father basically told him to elbow Naito in the throat, kick him in the balls and do every other dirty thing possible in the book. After that, the fight turned into a wrestling match, resulting in a one year suspension for Kameda and his father. Fortunately, this fight was a bit cleaner.

pretty unrelated, but if you’re interested in human rights, look into the conditions many of the imported workers live in/under while making all that construction in Dubai possible…….
