PPV

Seriously, $50 to watch a bunch of showcase fights, really? Dear Top Rank, make a deal with showtime like HBO did with GBP and have these fights for free. Otherwise make it insanely cheap, but not as much as a superfight….jeez

I think it’s $40, to be fair, and these things are kind of part of the reason Top Rank (and other promoters) find the HBO/GBP relationship so annoying. Just saying, “Hey, make a deal like Golden Boy did” — it doesn’t work that way. HBO has so many dates and so much budget and a lot of it goes to Golden Boy.

Still

To pay $40 to watch a fight card that is arguably worse than a standard FNF card is preposterous.

It’s better than a FNF but $40 is really steep. At $25 they’d probably sell a lot more of these, but I’m sure they’re making money and know better than I do on their business end.

Considering I could still buy a ticket for $50 to go live....

I almost view these Latin Fury PPVs as just a way to maybe get more revenue off the Azteca contract, off of people who either don’t have Azteca or don’t know that the fights also air on Azteca.

I would have paid the money if it still had Solis-Johnson

In fact I would have gone in person, but there needs to be at least one competitive fight on the card. Gamboa-Garcia and Lopez-Mtagwa are both really horrible mismatches. Mtagwa got his butt kicked by Billy Dib last time I saw him face someone decent. Garcia has a history of getting KOed early.
