Interesting Question

There is one interesting point that this video dances around and should have actually explored further. When is it beneficial for a fighter to not have a promotion company and do everything in house. I used to think that you needed to be a very big draw for this to be feasible but with all the fighter-promotion issues lately I’m beginning to reconsider. Floyd’s long lasting legacy could be the innovation of successful self-promotion.

Oscar de la Hoya not only succesfully self promoted, but he built an empire. When he launched Golden Boy, it was thought to be an absolutely horrible idea.

Agreed, I just think that people can write off when one person does it, however when two people do it successfully, it might start a trend. Both of these guys deserve credit for it. When did Floyd break off to do Mayweather Promotions, I know ODLH was around 2001?

The split with Top Rank came after Mayweather-Judah.
