Miguel Cotto Can Not Make Weight!

Words circulating within the "Entertainment Capital of the World" had it that Cotto is having a hard time losing the extra weight and meeting the 145-pound limit set for the match. A source bared Thursday that Cotto trained at the Top Rank gym here under a temperature of  "100 degrees." Cotto has not fought below 147 since 2006 when he decided to move up to welterweight also owing to weight issue.

Ok, he probably will make weight but will Cotto come into the fight dehyrdated? If so, will it affect his performance like it did Oscar De La Hoya's sluggish performance against Manny Pacquiao? I'm not making any excuses for Cotto but hmmmm . . .

I read somewhere else that he weighed 144 after yesterday's workout

Either way, we’ll find out at 6:15 Eastern tonight.

I hope this is true;

Since then he can “do a Floyd” (as it’s now known) and just weigh in at the welterweight limit, as he should have been allowed to do for a welterweight title fight anyway…..

Team Cotto is saying that everything is fine but who knows. He plans on entering the ring at 160lbs. I’m surfing Google for the last minute b.s reports.

I figured the lowest he would weigh on fight night was about 158, so that’s no surprise.

Taco,
excuse my attempt at low-brow sensational journalism . . . but I’m wondering about his efforts to reach 145lbs.

Yeah,

just because he came in at 145 at weigh-in time doesn’t mean he didn’t struggle to get there. Back in my wresling days, I had to run off 2 pounds in an hour by putting on every bit of clothing in my bag, a few borrowed sweatshirts, and our heavyweight’s winter coat, and jogging in place in front of a radiator for an hour.

I made it, but it wasn’t pretty.

Regular saunas are 70 – 80 degrees.
So they’re saying his gym was 100 degrees just so he could cut weight? Who knows what went down.

Before I say this, I’ll take nothing away from Pacquiao’s boxing skills but I find it interesting that many fans only discussed how Pacquiao dominated De La Hoya and made him quit on his stool. I rarely hear people mention how dehydrated Oscar was trying to make weight for the fight. No one knows about the IV used to sustain De La Hoya’s health. Prior to his Pacquiao fight the last time Oscar weighed at 147lbs. was 2001.

Fans observations of Cotto during weigh-ins (could be bullsh*t) but yeah

I rarely hear people mention how dehydrated Oscar was trying to make weight for the fight.

We say it every time the fight is brought up. All due respect to Manny for beating Oscar into submission, but Oscar was in God awful fight shape. Freddie Roach said he saw IV marks on Oscar’s arm during the referee’s instructions, which indicated they’d tried to hydrate him in the dressing room.

100 degrees

in a Finnish Sauna. I don’t know what Saunas you’ve been in.

Fahrenheit, not Celsius

Saunas are around 66 – 90 degrees CELSIUS (or about 150 – 194 degrees fahrenheit). Cotto kept his gym at 100 degrees Fahrenheit, which is only about 40 degrees celsius.

Working out in a gym at 100 degrees celsius would kill someone.

Cotto looks

Pretty sure the consensus was that Cotto looked really good at 145. Not dehydrated, no sunken cheeks, not gaunt, but solid and ripped.
