Bad Left Hook Live Boxing Results and Commentary: Lovemore N'dou v. Matthew Hatton

This show starts in a bit over 20 minutes on Sky Sports in the UK, and Bad Left Hook will bring you live results, round-by-round coverage and scoring, and instant analysis on the main event between Lovemore N'dou and Matthew Hatton, as well as whatever comes up on the undercard. The show actually has a quite nice undercard, but I'm never certain what Sky's going to actually put on TV.

Should be a fun fight, really, as I expect even if he's outgunned (as some expect), Matthew's going to leave it all in the ring trying to grab a title. Remember, to the Hattons, the IBO title is legit. Ricky's held their belts on numerous occasions, while always being more than willing to give up any other body's belt to pursue what he felt were better opportunities than their mandatory challengers.

Apparently there was some fantastic stuff on the undercard that Sky will be showing. Sounds like N’dou-Hatton will go first.

Hatton uses Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” — great song, but Enzo Maccarinelli used it the last time I heard it for a boxer, and he may not have backed down, but…

It's kind of a candyass song to walk into

Not sure how that gets the fighter or the crowd pumped. I guess the words are relevant, but Tom Petty is singing it. Not exactly intimidating.

N'dou-Hatton R1

Hatton jabbing straight off, trying to make his way in. N’dou meeting him by shooting toward the body with his jab. N’dou making Hatton miss his right pretty easily. Swatting left hook by N’dou. Right from Hatton lands this time. Right hand to the body, near the hip, by N’dou. Neither guy looks particularly sharp in this first round. N’dou looks like he’s trying to bait him into a big shot or two, but they aren’t landing. N’dou with a left hook.

Tight round in that it was hard to score. Sloppy though.

N'dou-Hatton R2

The fight is like a loop early on. Hatton lunges, N’dou ducks down and swings wild, and they tie up. They mix it up there, and Hatton is missing just about everything. N’dou isn’t landing a lot, but he’s getting a shot here and there. Matthew gets a couple pot shots inside. There’s a right from N’dou, and they’re starting to let it go now. BIG swings, and Hatton sneaks in a right. Big left hook misses by Hatton. Right hand Hatton! Hatton appears to have a small cut by his left eye. Chopping right by N’dou is just short. Hatton round.

Hatton 10-9

N'dou-Hatton R3

Hatton really starting to find a left hand now in the first minute, but there’s one from Lovemore. N’dou didn’t spar for about five weeks after suffering a cut in training, so maybe he’s going to take a few rounds to sharpen up. There’s a nice right from N’dou. N’dou with another one late in the round. I think he’s starting to get Hatton’s timing down, leading the action a bit more, and while the Sky team thinks Matthew “has done the better work throughout” the round, I’m not so quick to agree.

Round that looks a bit more like the first than it does the last two, really. I’m semi-distracted so my play-by-play on this round sucks (I apologize). N’dou is starting to take the pace fairly well from my view, and Matthew has some changes he needs to make. He’s got to start getting to him. If he lets Lovemore go at this pace, he’s not winning.

Really another N’dou round for me — Hatton is struggling to really get anything done. Even when the crowd gets all excited (as crowds do), his shots aren’t really landing clean. N’dou is always there to meet him, too. Hatton does a little bit late in the round, but not enough.

N’dou is really getting it working now, and starting to outclass Matthew. It is what it is. Matthew is a tough guy and a brave guy, but he’s tremendously limited and this is showing just how limited. I know I said I thought it could be an exciting fight, but watching this, Judah would have demolished Matthew. I mean torn him to pieces. N’dou isn’t even that sharp and is starting to run away with this fight.

N'Dou-Hatton R8

The two come out and try to grind inside. N’Dou gets a stern finger from the referee from hitting off the break. Hatton with some nice work on the inside. N’Dou comes plowing forward and lands a couple of nice body shots, and throws a couple of head shots that seem to glance off Hatton’s gloves. Hatton comes back with a couple of decent jabs, but N’Dou counters nicely, and Hatton’s mouthpiece comes flying out. Hatton comes out and tries to get busy, but pretty much misses with a flurry, and N’Dou counters with a flurry of his own that also misses. And surprise surprise, wrestling in a Hatton match. They get broken up, and while Hatton’s punches are straighter, N’Dou’s are just more accurate. The two decide to hug it out until the bell rings.

N'Dou-Hatton R9

Slow start to the round, with both guys thoriwng a few shots that miss. N’Dou really wildly flinging some shots but hits air. Hatton comes back with a flurry of jabs and crosses that get blockes. Hatton comes in and gets some good body work in on the inside. N’Dou catches Hatton with a good left as Hatton comes in. N’Dou is blocking most of what Hatton throws up top, but seems unable to adjust. N’Dou with a nice 1-2 combo after Hatton misses a flurry.

Hatton stalking and throws a few punches, but nothing lands solid. Hatton lunges in and catches N’Dou with a jumping jab. N’Dou with a nice series of hooks, and he seems to have Hatton a bit hurt. Hatton backs N’Dou into the corner and lands a couple of nice head shots. And again, they hug it out. Hatton had his moments towards the end, but N’Dou carried most of the round.

N'Dou-Hatton R10

Hatton comes in and tries mauling N’Dou, but at this point he’s just throwing arm punches. N’Dou backs off and tries to flurry as Hatton jumps in, but everything misses. N’Dou with another HUGE wild hook that completely misses. Too bad Hatton doesn’t have the quickness to capitalize and counter while he’s turned around. The ref warns Hatton, maybe for a low blow, maybe for holding, can’t tell. They wrestle on the inside and Hatton gets off some decent work there. N’Dou is much less effective generally this round.

Hatton is now fighting backing up, and this seems to be working much better for him with N’Dou’s wild style. N’Dou lunges in and misses, Hatton grabs him and lands a few body shots. N’Dou really didn’t land much in that round, a pretty clear Hatton round.

Weigh-in about to start on ESPN

N’Dou comes out aggressive, but Hatton blocks or dodges everything. Hatton back to coming forward, and he’s just not getting the better of most exchanges when he does that. N’Dou throws a few more shots that miss and then ties up, giving Hatton a bit of a noogie. Both guys are busy, but neither guy is landing a whole lot. Hatton ties up and gets in some good body work. N’Dou now stalking again, but he’s trying to throw straighter punches and having slightly more success.

The two tie up, and this time N’Dou gets the better of it when they’re tied up. N’Dou punches out of it and lands a hook that sends Hatton flying back. Hatton coming out more aggressive now, but at the end of a combo he gets countered. Nice combo for Hatton to close out the round. Pretty close one there, but I thought N’Dou landed the harder shots.

Sky has Hatton up 106-104

N’Dou comes out flying, but misses with a wild hook. Hatton is clearly fighting backing up now, just trying not to engage. Hatton lands a nice little rabbit punch that the ref doesn’t notice.

THe two get on the inside and Hatton lands some good body shots. N’Dou now hesitant, not really throwing either. Both guys seem to think they have this won, and they’re just both circling around each other and posturing a bit. Hatton leans in on N’Dou against the ropes and lands a couple of body shots. N’Dou lunges in for a big hook that misses. And again. And again. Hatton seems a lot more spry this round, and while neither guy did much, I guess Hatton marginally did more, and at least looked the fresher of the two.
