Main Events sent out a press release in which Tomasz Adamek put out a challenge to and insulted new WBA heavyweight titleholder David Haye, calling the Englishman "scared."

"David, if you want to fight against somebody who punches back at your face—not the empty air—you know where to find me," Adamek declared. "You call yourself the best heavyweight fighter in the world after running scared for the whole fight with Nikolai Valuev? It’s not even funny."

Kathy Duva of Main Events thinks it's a great fight on paper, and I would have to agree.

"It’s been a very long time since the boxing public has seen the kind of action in a heavyweight title fight that they enjoyed before the advent of the Super Heavyweights who dominate the division these days."

...

"When a heavyweight title fight is exciting, there is always a ‘smaller’ guy in the ring pressing the action. Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey and, of course, Evander Holyfield, to name a few, all fought in their primes under 215 pounds. The next great heavyweight will come from the Cruiserweight division and we believe that he will be Tomasz Adamek."

I don't think there's any questioning that Haye-Adamek would be one of the most exciting significant fights in the heavyweight division. But it's not going to happen any time soon, with Haye having a mandatory challenge coming from John Ruiz. After that, though, Haye-Adamek really could be a barnburner. I actually think it's a perfect fight for Haye. He'd be the bigger man in that one and I think he hits a lot harder. As good as Adamek's chin is, we've never seen him against someone that can bang like David Haye. Whatever else you think of Haye, his power is very, very real.

Talk about missing the forest through the trees, Kath. Ali was, in fact, the “Big Man” in th vast majority – almost the totality – of his fights. Marciano mostly fought the brand of Depression-raised heavies that were available in his era, which tended to be his size and weight (if they were any good, that is). Dempsey was midget compared to the big galoot Jess Willard, but against almost everyone else he was of average, evenly matched size (and an monster compared to some, like Carpentier). Holyfield thrived in an controversially invented weight class before shining at max weight. And JOE LOUIS WAS A GIGANTIC FRANKENSTEIN’S MONSTER compared to his competiton. A truly blonde moment for Duva Diva.

Yeah I should’ve said what you said, but I didn’t. I mean it’s point-blank obvious that times change. David Haye would be a fucking giant compared to a lot of guys from back when. I like the intent here (to stir up interest in Haye-Adamek), but that part does lack quite a bit of truth.

It's like she was trying to sound stupid.

She says “Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier”… two guys who were mostly famous for fighting each other. So, who was the “small man” in their fights, Kath? Well, the fact is it was Frazier. People just throw in an “Ali” anytime they want to hype something, like preachers throw in an “amen” in church. It sort of reminds me of the 90’s, when everyone hypejob had to be a cross between X and Y, like “Mike Tyson” and “Pernell Whittaker.” That’s exactly how they were describing Poison Jones.

I commend you for keeping ‘braid removal’ relevant in the current discourse.

Adamek has the chin and heart. Haye has the power. Both are pretty good boxers, but based on their most recent fights at least, Adamek also has the ring savvy and generalship. This is a fight where I would have a personal favorite (Adamek), and it would be fun for me to root for him in what I see as a pick-em fight.

The more I think about it the more I feel rationally I'd have to favor Haye.

I will want to see the fight though.

There's word in Poland that he may already have some kind of deal worked out with Haye

Not sure if it’s true (the news in Poland is a bit sketchy), but if so, I look forward to it. It’s probably one of the best fights that could be made in the weight class.

Also, ESPN reports that he'll be taking another fight at the end of the year

Against an opponent to be named, in the Prudential Center, at heavyweight, the last weekend before the new year.

Options

Please tell me that the only big options for Haye are either Adamek or Arreola. Oh that would make me so much more interested in the HW division. I like the brothers K but gee boy golly do they make for some dull fights.
