Some good news today as pertains to Filipino fighter Z Gorres, who underwent emergency surgery after collapsing following a fight on Friday night in Las Vegas.

Gorres is quickly improving in the hospital right now, and Tony Alderguer of ALA Boxing Gym even called the recovery "miraculous." Gorres wife, Duchess, also says he's getting better, that he is responding, his vital organs are stabilized, and that he is conscious.

It was also announced that the administration of Filipino President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will aid Gorres in any way they can.

The Arroyo administration on Tuesday said it will give all assistance necessary to Filipino boxer Z "The Dream" Gorres who was hospitalized after winning a unanimous decision over Columbian Luis Melendez at the House of Blues in the Mandalay Resort and Casino over the weekend.

In a press briefing, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the government will provide Gorres the help that he deserves in accordance with the country’s laws.

"Definitely we want to take care of him," Remonde said adding that the boxer gave honor to the country.

For now, the best news is that Gorres is out of the woods medically, or at least very, very close to that stage, and that he will be given the assistance he surely will need. I hope there's a good spot for him at the ALA Gym if he wants it. You might also remember that when Czar Amonsot's career looked to be over, he was made a part of civil security by a Filipino mayor. They take care of their own over there.

Really, really, great news. Thank you so much for covering this story, and thanks for your support.

If Z chooses to remain in the boxing business, I think he’ll be a fine addition to any stable as a young coach (ALA, most likely). He’s technically proficient enough to impart a good set of skills to the next generation of Philippine fighters.
