I dont know if its typical for him, but Miguel looks distant and reclusive both on the show and in photos. It has me worried. Pac seems loose and confident.

I noticed that too
But from what interviews I have seen in the past he is always a bit withdrawn. It’s probably just his way of dealing with the pressure/the media.

If anything, I would be worried if Cotto was acting loose, since that would be so unlike him.
It’s like Sugar Ray Leonard’s quote from Legendary Nights about how he knew he’d won his fight with Marvin Hagler when Hagler went out of character and started dancing in the ring before the decision was announced. Whether or not you agree with Leonard on that fight, there is a general principle there.

I understand what youre saying, but he dosent even seem confident (which is hurting my confidence in betting on him.) Pac is making statements along the lines of “Im going to win” and Cotto is more “I want to fight hard.” Im worried about him going in there with the mentality that he has already lost.

Cotto doesn’t talk smack, it just doesn’t happen. This is a man who says the master of plaster disaster beat him because Tony ‘hits hard.’ Quiet confidence is something that doesn’t show up too much in boxing, and Cotto has it. I am way more concerned that pacman has actually started to believe Roach’s mental game nonsense, and actually believes this will be an easy fight over in one round. Pacman is going to look loose until Cotto walks through his ‘power’ punches.

I hope he tries to “walk through” Pacquiao’s ‘power’ punches. I really do.

Guy with plaster of paris in his hands is definitely the same as a guy who just came up in weight…yup totally the same.

he didn’t exactly walk through those (illegal) shots either.

So you think Pacquiao’s shots are more powerful than a natural welterweight with Plaster hands? Cause it took stone hands 11 rounds…and I’m pretty sure that Pacman’s power is vastly overrated. Cotto has three things that Pacquiao’s last opponents all did not have: Power, a chin, and speed.

Yeah, well, I’m not.

Oscar de la Hoya doesn’t have a chin?

100% agreed. oscar had a world class chin, and his “golden” face looked like it was busted up by a guy who had plaster fists.
and cotto was dazed and confused MULTIPLE times in the plaster-fight, not just the 10th & 11th rounds.

It’s fairly typical. He’s always seemed a bit camera-shy, and I mean genuinely shy. I doubt he was exactly thrilled with the “24/7” cameras being around.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Miguel doesn’t strike me as behaving any differently. Still stoically confident, if that makes sense. Which isn’t to say that I think he’s going to win. I just think that his demeanor isn’t really an indication of any mental fragility coming into the fight. That being said, If Cotto doesn’t get caught cold in the early rounds and survives the initial Pacquiao storm, he’s got a good 6-7 round window in the middle to get his best work done. The early rounds and the last rounds are Pacquiao’s.

Cotto’s a stoic guy, but his perceived lack of confidence has as much to do with his lack of total mastery of the English language more than anything, he’s a lot looser and more at ease in his native tongue, in English he says things like “i’m pretty sure i’ll win” while in Spanish he promised to send Malignaggi back to the “club and ballroom circuit”

Yeah, I’ve noticed that he uses the modifier “pretty” a LOT in English, when what he actually means is “really” or “very.”

That's a good point
On a slightly unrelated note. How amazing is the massively obese best friend of Cott!. I love that guy! The 2nd best part of cotto-pacquiao 24/7 was him jumping into the swimming pool from quite high up and causing a hell of a splash!
