Floyd Mayweather Jr. reads lines to support the upcoming junior welter Prizefighter. He’ll be doing the drawing later, I guess.

Munroe-Maludrottu R1

Malu (that’s what I’m going with to be quick) starts pretty quick, staying at a distance against the taller southpaw Munroe. Munroe missing a lot in the first half of the round. Nice right by Malu. Potshot uppercut inside by Munroe. Munroe working now, trying to get to the body, but Malu’s pretty tight. Malu misses shots with both hands. Munroe digging away late in the round, then turns Malu around and lands a straight left. Malu with a long right that glances off the jaw. Munroe with a left from distance. Closer round than the commentators made it out, but I go with Maludrottu same as they do.

Munroe-Maludrottu R2

Munroe continues the pace he started setting in the latter part of the first round, and in doing so starts clearly winning the fight. He’s still not landing a ton clean, but he’s obviously a stronger puncher than Maludrottu and is just a bigger man. Now they’re starting to really wing some leather in close. Kind of a sloppy fight so far, as both guys are throwing in combination but you wouldn’t exactly call them pretty. Malu makes a late charge, but this was a Munroe round.

Munroe-Maludrottu R3

Kind of a pillowfight to be honest. Neither of these guys have shown a lot of snap on their shots. Malu just caught Munroe WIDE open with a left hand and it didn’t even wobble him a bit. Maludrottu is putting on some charges, and now Munroe is meeting him. They’re cutting a pretty goddamn crisp pace, I’ll give them that.

These two are just throwing shots in close. Very quick tempo after the first two minutes of the opening round. Munroe isn’t denting Malu, and Malu — though no puncher — is getting him to occasionally have to get out and reset.

Munroe-Maludrottu R4

Oh man, these guys are starting to WAR now! Can’t argue with this. Munroe might have gotten the better of that exchange. Slapping right by Malu, and Munroe digs to the body with some real purpose. Munroe pushing Maludrottu around the ring now. Malu firing back at center ring after getting off the ropes, and Munroe tries to hit to the body again. This is turning pretty damn fun. These guys are really fighting hard.

Munroe hitting away to the body on the ropes, and then Malu turns him and wings shots upstairs. This feels like one of those fights where you can’t even tell when a guy is gassing out a bit, and someone goes down almost out of nowhere. What a scrap this has been so far.

Munroe-Maludrottu R5

They start the round fast again. Again, it’s not pretty, and this isn’t Moore-Rhodes or anything, but I’m pleased with how this has gone. Munroe using his size and upper body strength to continue pushing Malu around, but Maludrottu gets off of him and outworks him at distance. A minute left in a toss-up round.

Good work by Maludrottu. Munroe eats two uppercuts, and now he might be in a bit of trouble here! He’s in a shootout! He might be cut near his eye. Munroe getting dominated here in the final minute of the round, but still doing nothing but coming forward. But now, he’s walking right into good shots. Body shots to end the round by Malu.

Munroe-Maludrottu R6

Sniper right by Maludrottu, then he goes in with a left from a brief southpaw stance. Munroe throws the first real jabs I’ve seen since the opening round. But Maludrottu isn’t buying it yet, and is trying to lure Munroe back into a firefight. He’s FIRING power shots, and missing them now. Munroe has backed down some — well, he had, and now Munroe crowds him on the ropes again. Good body shots by Munroe. Pushing him around some more, and now Munroe is given a heads-up to not use his elbow.

Maludrottu getting at distance again. Munroe gets him cornered, but Maludrottu gets right out of there and Munroe manages to land nothing of real note. Maludrottu backs Munroe down now, swinging a left hook to the body. Munroe with lots of pitty-patty combinations right at Maludrottu’s gloves. Uppercut inside by Maludrottu ends the round.

Munroe-Maludrottu R7

Munroe pressuring hard, but Maludrottu cuts him off. The crowd is rising, but Maludrottu isn’t letting himself get stupid. Left hook by Malu, but then a straight left from Munroe. Malu being pushed into the ropes still, but then Munroe isn’t getting a whole lot done there, which has been the story of his offense all night.

Munroe putting the charge on now! Maludrottu there to meet him! Munroe backs him up again, throws a lot, and Maludrottu keeps landing counter shots right on the money. Munroe’s offense has largely consisted of pushing, then getting him to the ropes, and then pumping his arms like Little Mac running but not making any headway into changing what Maludrottu’s doing.

Still, this was Munroe’s round, but close.

Munroe-Maludrottu R8

Munroe is REALLY just pressuring the shit out of him now. He’s taking Maludrottu out of this fight as Munroe just leans on him and fires away. Munroe will not get off of him. Even when Malu gets away, Munroe is right back on him, leaning, working away, and keeping Maludrottu from throwing his own punches. But there’s an uppercut from Malu.

This is a damn good fight.

Munroe warned about…something. I don’t know. Munroe starting to wear Maludrottu down, it appears. Maludrottu looks frustrated that he can’t really get Munroe off of him. He’s going to have to make an adjustment after this round. Body shots from Munroe, and now he backs down. Then he gets right back on top of him. This is begging for a pretty wicked headbutt.

Munroe with a big left hand! Maludrottu takes it well and looks for openings of his own. Excellent round for Munroe.

Munroe-Maludrottu R9

Maludrottu seems to have made some adjustments to start, or at least is trying to. He’s doing what he can to keep Munroe from leaning on him. Munroe making Malu miss now, and pushing again. Even though Munroe isn’t doing the work he was last round, he’s still clearly dictating the pace of this round. Maludrottu can’t find any offense because he’s so hung up on keeping Munroe off of him. Munroe round, and that makes three in a row. He’s turned this fight in his favor.

Munroe-Maludrottu R10

Maludrottu is catching him coming in with left hands to start the round, and he’s getting more bouncy on his feet. Hard body shot by Malu, answered by Munroe. They’re both targeting the body early in the round, and now Munroe gets back to the distance he wants, which is no distance at all. Munroe out, and trying to land a long 1-2, but he doesn’t get it. They’re in close and trading body shots and uppercuts now. Right hook by Munroe. Uppercut by Maludrottu. A few good shots by Malu, then he gets away again. That’s probably what he needs to do to win this fight.

Shots from Munroe on the ropes. He appears to have gotten stronger here late in the fight. Sneaky right from Malu with Munroe coming in. This is a far closer round than the last three, but Munroe takes it with a lot of good shots to the body.

Munroe-Maludrottu R11

Munroe has him on the ropes again. At this point, Maludrottu isn’t doing so much worse than he was early on, when he was winning the fight, but Munroe is doing much better than he was earlier, and he’s landing the harder, better punches. Big combo by Maludrottu! That right hand snapped Munroe’s head back for perhaps the first time tonight.

Maludrotto picking away with some good shots this round. Left from Munroe, and he goes back to leaning and pressing. Munroe digs deep near the end to try and steal it, but Maludrottu hangs right with him.

Munroe-Maludrottu R12

Oh shit, they really are coming out to fight this round. Both of them throwing the gloves.

Maludrottu with some body shots. He looks like HE might be fighting for a knockout. Munroe leaning, Maludrottu throwing EVERYTHING he has into the punches he’s throwing, and he’s constantly looking to throw. Maludrottu doing what he did last round, but at a harder pace. Picking away with shots, and keeping Munroe off balance. Munroe smothering, Maldurottu landing shots. Munroe looks tired out. Maludrottu sniping with counter shots as Munroe gets very reckless.

A minute left in what has been one hell of an entertaining fight.

Munroe going after him, but again just walking right into counter shots. If Malu only had more power, those might be difference makers. What a finish we’re getting! Maludrottu throwing whatever he has left! Munroe firing back!

Maludrottu 10-9
114-114

So I have it a draw. Outside of ridiculous scorecards, there can’t be a bad winner in this one.

116-112

RENDALL MUNROE
Still European Junior Featherweight Titlist

8-4 seems a smidge wide to me, but he earned the win. He made some great mid-fight adjustments and took away what was working so well for Maludrottu.

Yeah. The only excuse you would give to the judges would be that alot of the rounds were fought entirely on the inside with both throwing similar volumes. Plus probably scoring the crowd cheers too

Moludrottu...

Was unlucky to lose that, very close fight.

I like Munroe but don’t think he will make much impact on the world scene.

No, I think he’d get starched by Nishioka if they actually get that fight done with Rendall winning the eliminator today.
