How big of a fight is this in germany. I just consider Erdei a joke.

"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."

Quite big.

I just hate the fact that he has had the whole lineal label title he has since forever and being a hardcore fan of boxing. I can’t name one guy he fought in a defense.

Hugo Garay (twice), Thomas Ulrich, Tito Mendoza. I remember he fought George Blades (not that I’m saying that’s a big deal). It’s not QUITE as bad as it’s often made out, but it certainly wasn’t a memorable reign.

It's just as bad as it's made out

Blades, Mendoza, Abron, etc. are all joke defenses. Outside of Garay (who many had beating him both times), Gonzalez and Ulrich, he hasn’t done squat.

He does have a few good wins is my only point. Some act like he has zero and he fought me over and over. They did the same with Chris John for years. I think he’s better than he sometimes gets credit for, but not as good as his standing would lead one to believe.

Chris John's record shits all over Erdei's

John has some serious victories. Erdei really doesn’t. He beat Gonzalez who just happened to be lucky enough to catch a very old DM, but never did much else. Garay beat him twice. Ulrich was alright I suppose, but also old. Marquez is about 1000 times better than anyone on Erdei’s resume, Gainer was better than anyone Erdei has faced, and Gonzalez really isn’t any better than Rojas on a P4P level.

I know Chris John’s record shits on Erdei’s. I’ve never had Erdei near a P4P list. But since neither fight in America they have gotten the same treatment from American fans over the years. It bugs me is all.

Just about to start: Wojciech Bartnik (22-4-1, 9 KO) v. Marcel Erler (7-6-1, 4 KO)

Cruiserweights, 8 Rounds

That was a thriller. 80-72, 80-72, 79-73 for Bartnik.

Both guys entered the ring to AC/DC, but despite the victory for Bartnik, the Brian Johnson era is still not better than the Bon Scott era.

next up

Dimitri Sartison (25-1, 16 KO) v. Stjepan Bozic (23-3, 14 KO)

Sartison’s only loss was a 12th round KO to Kessler last year. This is for the vacant WBA title, since Kessler is “super champion” or whatever.

Sartison-Bozic R1

Sartison working a long jab for the first minute. Bozic flicks back a couple of his own. Sartison misses a left hook that Bozic ducks under. Dead silent crowd. Library fight thus far.

Bozic pumping his jab a bit better in the second minute of the round. Right hand by Bozic is just off. Bozic looks at the ref about Sartison using his head, I think. Bozic jabbing, Sartison jabbing and moving around, but it’s Bozic landing the shots now. Now Sartison gets a quick rhythm, then backs off again. Their heads are going to clash, it would appear. Just a matter of when.

Sartison 10-9

Sartison-Bozic R2

Bozic pressing the action a smidge more in the first half of this round. Sartison continuing to try to work basically exclusively off his jab, but he’s coming with the right hand more, and catching Bozic coming in with combination shots. Another Sartison round. He just looks the more confident of the two so far, that being the real difference between them.

Sartison-Bozic R3

Sartison with a heavy right following his jab. Sartison leading with the right late in the round after controlling the middle portion again. Bozic isn’t looking bad, but more and more he’s getting caught open and slow to react. Sartison lands a very heavy jab there. More good work for Sartison this round.

Sartison 10-9
Sartison 30-27

I’m starting to think a little more of Kessler’s win over Sartison watching him in this one.

Mixing it up in close this round, and Bozic is landing some good shots from that range. Sartison might be well served to get back at distance. Better round for Bozic. Sartison is breathing a TON in his corner after the round. I mean a TON.

Frag doesn't punch hard enough to bother him, even at 177

But he didn’t have great power at 175, and without putting on some muscle, I doubt he hurts Frag, and he sure as hell won’t outwork Frag. His gameplan is probably to try to counter with accurate punching. German judges love that stuff.

Fragomeni-Erdei R1

Fragomeni starting really slow in the opening half of the round, like he’s just not ready to fight. Maybe just feeling Erdei’s power or more likely total lack thereof. But Erdei is controlling this round because of it, so that’ll put Frago one in the hole when that’s about the last thing he needs. Frago with a slow left hook, easily blocked. Frankly it was blocked before it was ever thrown. Erdei with a couple jabs.

Fragomeni-Erdei R2

Erdei with a swiping left hook that gets a rise out of the crowd. Now a quick little combo. Although against Fragomeni thus far, just about anything looks “quick.” Erdei is doing very little, but that’s a lot more than what Fragomeni is doing. Fragomeni is way off in the first two rounds. He’s hardly doing anything at all. We’re seeing a clear Erdei decision in the making if this keeps up.

Fragomeni-Erdei R3

Erdei coming out throwing the hands this round. Starting to potshot constantly, which makes him look like the far, far superior boxer. And frankly he just might be, because Fragomeni thus far isn’t doing shit all offensively. Erdei is continually fighting while moving back, and Frago has no answer for it.

Even when Frago does throw, he’s slow and everything is easily blocked or ducked by Erdei. Left hooks to the body by Fragomeni, and then he clips him with a right upstairs. Now he might be ready to get moving a bit. There’s a minute left in the round.

Erdei takes another one mostly on activity, but Fragomeni finally started letting his hands go in the latter part of the round.

Fragomeni starting to exert his will some now. Erdei is still moving back and potshotting pretty well, but he’s meeting some punches back finally. Clubbing rights by Fragomeni. Lots of misses by Fragomeni as Erdei dances and springs away from him. Now he’s making Fragomeni miss again. Fragomeni pumping a jab now, which might actually help him set any of this stuff up. Erdei jabbing back, and doing it better. Fragomeni with some left hooks, nothing solid. Right hand from Fragomeni. Left hook to the body, right upstairs from Erdei.

Closer, but still an Erdei round from my view.

Fragomeni-Erdei R5

My browser crashed during the round, so commentary starts about halfway into another Erdei-controlled round to this point. This is pretty much an entirely tactical fight, and like him or not, respect him or not, Erdei appears to be a much better tactical boxer than is Fragomeni. This is basically a shrunken heavyweight fight by modern standards, with the 20-pound weight difference on the scales, and the better boxer is finding a way to beat the heavier man.

Fragomeni lands a left hook to the body near the end of the round, but gets hit with a right hand in the face for his trouble.

Fragomeni is just too slow

Handspeed and footspeed. If he can somehow corner Erdei, he has a better chance in a dogfight, but he doesn’t really have the power to knock Erdei out, and Erdei has too many rounds in the bag for Fragomeni to take a decision even if he can somehow turn it into a brawl.

Fragomeni-Erdei R6

Erdei starts the round backpedaling even more than he has in the first five, and it makes him look like he either knows he has a big lead or knows he’s going 12 and might need to take a round off, or both. The two go hand-in-hand in many ways.

Fragomeni is pressing the action and landing some shots inside. Now he’s got Erdei in close and is bombing at him. Fragomeni working at the body with left hooks, and going upstairs. I think he’s getting to Erdei. You can feel a turning of the tide. Fragomeni is letting it fly and putting the heat on in a big way, and Erdei isn’t doing anything at all. When Erdei does throw, he now looks sloppy and, well, scared a bit.

Fragomeni-Erdei R7

Body work on Erdei seems to be adding up. Fragomeni takes a home run shot upstairs but misses badly. Erdei loads up a right, doesn’t even dent Fragomeni, who just keeps coming at him, closing the distance and working him over. When Erdei bolts away, Fragomeni just focuses in, chases him down, and goes back to work. This is a totally different looking fight from the first five rounds.

Erdei is tiring, looks like he isn’t taking shots so well anymore, and is fighting almost desperately on the offensive side of things. Fragomeni hasn’t backed down one bit, and has only turned up the heat as this has gone on. If Erdei thought he was in an easy fight, he was wrong. It’s almost like Frago spent five rounds playing George Jones.

Erdei looks like he’s in a bad way.

Fragomeni-Erdei R8

Erdei stuck on the ropes again right away in this round. Right to the body by Erdei, then a chopping right upstairs. Fragomeni working the uppercuts inside, and doing it well. Fragomeni putting the pressure on again late in the round, but I think thus far this has been an Erdei round. Still stealable, though, and Erdei is letting the hands fly! He’s landing some nice shots again. It’s not backing Fragomeni off, but it is getting Fragomeni’s NCAA football momentum meter cooled off a bit.

Fragomeni ends the round flurrying, or tries to, and Erdei swings back on him to seal the round.

Fragomeni-Erdei R9

Erdei back to using his speed advantage and his boxing skills, and he’s starting to slap Fragomeni around as he was doing early in the fight. Maybe he’s weathered the storm. He’s clearly the superior boxer. The only thing that can beat him is conditioning, really. I mean he’s just flat-out better than Fragomeni and that’s not up for debate.

Erdei letting the hands fly again. He hasn’t so much as made Fragomeni take a backwards step in this fight, but when he’s active it’s his fight. Fragomeni loading up the right hand in a big way. I think he knows it’s getting a bit late in the game, he’s in Germany, and he’s legitimately down to boot.

Fragomeni-Erdei R11

Erdei, to his credit, is mixing it up with Fragomeni. On home turf, he has to know he doesn’t need to do that. I suppose this COULD be closer, but…well, when’s the last time Erdei got a tough deal?

Fragomeni looks like he does know he needs a stoppage to win, but Erdei is actually using aggression to keep him from loading anything up. Fragomeni is reduced to eating shots and trying to get one of his slow power shots home. Not a bad tactic if Erdei’s gas tank can handle it. It looks like Frago is getting a bit tired himself.

This round almost surely sealed it for Erdei.

Fragomeni-Erdei R12

Fragomeni coming out guns blazing. And I mean he is throwing the hands. Looks like he wants to keep Erdei focused on the little arm pumping shots in close, then load up a right hand to the dome.

Erdei is absolutely out of gas in there. Whenever Frago is outside of arms reach, Erdei just dumps his arms at his sides. Fragomeni might actually have a shot for a KO here in the final minute if he can find one big shot, a la Briggs over Liakhovich. He’s got 30 seconds.

Erdei sprinting away from Fragomeni, who puts the chase on, and now he’s throwing all he’s got left! Good stand by Fragomeni, he’s really letting it go. Erdei, for whatever stupid reason, actually tries to throw some back.

Fragomeni 10-9
Erdei 116-112

Good 12th round

Erdei could have ran, and he was completely toast, but he chose to engage and keep Frag off of him by throwing punches. Frag still took the round, but Erdei could have hugged his way to victory, and I respect that he didn’t.

Tajbert and Gutierrez have one common opponent, Sergey Gulyakevich. Tajbert lost a pretty wide decision to him, Gutierrez won a close fight against him in a life and death fight. Tajbert has home advantage here though.

Gutierrez-Tajbert Round 1

And we’re on!

Gutierrez looks absolutely massive compared to Tajbert in the ring. Both guys dancing a bit on the outside to start. Tajbert jumps in with a nice quick left hook that finds the southpaw Gutierrez. Gutierrez with a couple of body shots. Tajbert lunges in and misses wildly.

Gutierrez seems interested in timing the quicker Tajbert, and Tajbert seems afraid to get within Gutierrez’s reach, which is much greater than Tajbert’s. Tajbert darting in and out a bit. Gutierrez tries to turn it up at the end, but it’s mostly a boring, tactical feeling out round.

Tajbert 10-9

Gutierrez-Tajbert Round 2

Tajbert showing jab, but not anywhere near close enough to land. Gutierrez with a couple of combos that mostly miss. Gutierrez is now starting to move forward, and even throwing a jab here or there. Tajbert isn’t anywhere near him, and if he stays this far on the outside, he’ll never land much.

Gutierrez now launching some uppercuts when Tajbert tries to jump inside, and this seems to be dissuading Tajbert even more. Nothing too exciting going on here.

Gutierrez 10-9
19-19

Gutierrez-Tajbert Round 3

Tajbert continuing to air jab, which for some reason is keeping the much longer Gutierrez from closing the gap as much as he might like. Gutierres with a couple of jabs. Tajbert in with a hook, ducks under the counter and runs away, a maneuver he’s pulled several times already.

Gutierrez is landing the jab when he throws it, but he’s not throwing it nearly enough. But his power seems to be bothering Tajbert, who’s getting even more tentative now. A couple of left hooks by Gutierrez that mostly hit forearm. Tajbert did nothing that round, and Gutierrez really didn’t do that much more.

Gutierrez-Tajbert Round 4

I thought this fight had potential, but it’s been horrible so far.

More of the same to start. Tajbert jabbing air. He’s probably thrown 100 jabs and landed none of them. Gutierrez catches him with a couple short rights. Gutierrez seems to be a one-handed fighter, which is hurting him. Tajbert is now within range of his right hand, but he keeps trying to throw crosses without setting them up with the jab. Gutierrez with a decent combo. Tajbert finally coming in close. Guiterrez with a couple of good shots to the body. Tajbert darts in and lands a couple of quick shots. Gutierrez gives chase.

10-9 Gutierrez

Gutierrez-Tajbert Round 5

Tajbert attempts a 1-2 that misses badly. Gutierrez with a hook combo that misses badly. Gutierrez with a nice digging right uppercut to the body. They read the scores (damn you open scoring), and suddenly Gutierrez gets a lot more aggressive. Gutierres jumps in with a left, and Tajbert counters. Tajbert with a flurry that mostly hits gloves, but makes the crowd get louder. Tajbert with a slapping lest hook. Decent combo by Tajbert. More digging hooks to the body by Gutierrez.

Tajbert is finally close enough for a fight to actually start. And like that, he gets back on the outside, Gutierrez starts stalking again, and the round ends with both guys just bouncing there.

Close round.

10-9 Tajbert

Gutierrez-Tajbert Round 6

Gutierrez lands a couple jabs from the outside. Tajbert tries a flurry that doesn’t do much of anything. Nice left hook at the end of another flurry by Tajbert. Gutierrez is throwing the jab a bit more, but Tajbert isn’t necessarily staying outside of it.

And I seem to have lost my feed, so that’s that.
