This boxing has AWESOME bumper music. It reminds me of Japanese wrestling from like 1991. Or 1998. Or 2003.
Or now, probably, I don’t know. I haven’t watched in a while.

Looks like a fight just ended in the third on a cut, which appears to be a headbutt cut. Johan Perez (7-0, 6 KO) wasn’t the one cut. Azael Cosio (8-0, 6 KO) was.

Off topic, but I’m a hiring committee where I teach for a visiting ASSISTANT professor position that starts at under 70k, and we had two Pulitzer Prize winners apply. The economy in higher ed is just a mess right now. Anyway, glad to be done with all the applications so I can focus on the more important things in life, like boxing on obscure Panamanian television stations.

no clue who's in the ring right now
But it’s happening, with a grand total one one camera angle, that being the hard cam. And then in the middle of the round, someone starts ringing a cattle bell or something, and then we go backstage to look at somebody starting to come to the ring? I have no idea what the hell is going on and I’m loving it.

Tello lost his last fight, in July to Luis Alberto Rios at 105 pounds (TKO-4). Rios fights on this card, too, against Carlos Melo, who lost to Edgar Sosa in June in one of Sosa’s many eyebrow-raising title defenses.

I just wish my Big East team wasn't so annoyingly inconsistent
And they’ll probably lose next week too to a much worse team. I mean, they play in the Big East for Christ’s sake. 2/3 of the teams are in cold ass weather. Yet they don’t ever recruit outside of the state of Florida. No wonder they lose every game where the temperature is below 40 degrees.

I wouldn't doubt it
But it’s the coaching staff’s fault. They KNOW they’ll need to play 3+ cold weather games a year. They have a team that’s perennially top 25 now. They can afford to try recruiting some guys from outside of Florida.

Looks like it’s Ricardo Nunez (16-1, 14 KO) v. Juan Francisco Centeno (16-13, 8 KO) next. Nunez was stopped in his only loss, and Centeno has been stopped nine times. Junior bantamweights. Centeno has fought and lost to Jorge Arce, Juan Carlos Reveco, Luis Maldonado, Roman Gonzalez (twice), and uh, other guys.

Nunez-Centeno R1
Don’t expect this’ll take too long, really. Nunez looks like a fighter who has been in training. Centeno looks like a little old guy that helps in the preparation of young fighters. Nunez flicking his jab out, Centeno comes in swinging his arms like a mosher at a Sick of it All show in 1997.
And Centeno is reeling about halfway into the round. Bad legs, about to fall. Nunez going after him and just throwing away. Centeno’s trunks say “THE ROCK.” Yeah, I disagree.
RIGHT HAND! Centeno stays standing really well, I’ll say that. And finally he clinches. This is target practice. Lefts landing, rights landing. Eventually Centeno gets it settled down again.
Nunez 10-9
Could be a 10-8 w/o knockdown, but I get the feeling it won’t really matter.

Nunez-Centeno R2
DOWN GOES CENTENO! Go figure. And he’ll fight on, I suppose. I don’t know why. Is he being paid by the round?
AND DOWN GOES CENTENO!
And he’ll fight on.
Wait for it…
Well, he’s staying up under immense pressure, and even punching back. He might actually be made of rocks.
AND DOWN GOES CENTENO! Are we really going to continue this disaster?
Hey, what the fuck — the referee told Centeno to go to a neutral corner, then looked at Nunez and said, “Box!” So Nunez rushes at Centeno, who isn’t even looking, and thankfully the bell sounds.

Nunez-Centeno R3
What do you know? Centeno is being pressured again, and hit a bunch, and Nunez is just walking through Centeno’s shots.
And down goes Centeno. Is that enough yet?
He’s up again. They’re actually letting him fight on. This is insanity.
About a minute left in the round and Centeno is still standing in there and throwing. He’s a tough son of a gun, I’ll give him that. Centeno hurt again at the end of the round, and DOWN HE GOES!
I think they’re going to count again — oh thank God, no, they wave it off. Fifth time’s a charm.

Rios-Melo R1
Rios boxing at distance, throwing his jab out there. Rios with a right to the body, mostly blocked by the elbow of Melo. Rios looking for power shots now. The jab seems more like a distraction than anything. With Melo’s KO rate, he’d have to have an all time crappy chin to go down here, and he’s the bigger man. Melo shoots a right late in the round.

This is another 11-rounder, and I’d guess this one sees the distance.
Melo doing a bit better in the second round, but it’s still Rios controlling the fight from the outside for the most part. He’s got what appears to be at least a three inch height advantage over the 5’2 1/2" Melo.

Not really a whole lot between the two so far, and not much for clean, effective punching on either side. The key right now is that Melo is starting to make Rios a bit uncomfortable in close, while Melo is apparently perfectly comfortable taking the occasional body shot from Rios.

Melo is peppering away. I mean he has no power, but it looks like Rios has no more than he does, either. Rios with a left hook to the body. He’s thrown that a bunch, and it always seems like it just sort of sticks there and gets no reaction.

Rios really needs to get busier and start imposing his will a little more. Melo’s feather fisted as all hell, but he’s letting the smaller man who can’t punch dictate almost everything about the fight. Rios did switch southpaw for a moment. Actually this was a Rios round, as he got a bit more active.

Rios-Melo R9
Actually this one is a proper ten-rounder according to the graphic. So it’s about over.
Rios is actually turning up the volume just a bit. I don’t know — there’s just no spark with this kid, really. Melo isn’t a bad fighter and has certainly been around, but he’s also got nine losses and is much smaller and older. Still, Rios might well win this fight. A round to go and I’ve got him close.
Rios 10-9
Melo 86-85

Rios-Melo R10
Rios is using youth at this point. But here comes Melo, and Rios is there to meet him! Decent final round, easily the most exciting of the fight. Not a bad fight overall, and I have a draw.
Rios 10-9
95-95

Concepcion-Leyva R2
Concepcion pressuring right away, going between southpaw and conventional stances very fluidly. Leyva firing power shots from too far out, and Concepcion is going side to side very effectively, keeping Leyva constantly searching for him. Concepcion with power shots, and Leyva backs him down by winging a big left at him. Concepcion with a hard right inside. Body shots from both, and now they’re firing away in close. Concepcion wins that exchange! Now digging away to the body, and throwing upstairs too! Crowd is crazy for Concepcion.
Concepcion 10-9
Concepcion 20-18

Concepcion-Leyva R3
Both guys have let their hands go, so at the very least this is pretty entertaining. Concepcion is quicker, looks fresher, and may be stronger, but Leyva is hanging right in there with him and trying to turn it into a brawl. Pretty uppercut from Concepcion after he blinds Leyva with a pawing jab. Concepcion does get himself off balance when he throws sometimes, and nearly left himself wide open just after that uppercut when he missed a left hand.
Concepcion 10-9

Concepcion-Leyva R4
Leyva getting beaten up a bit near the ropes about a minute into the round, but Concepcion doesn’t get sloppy about anything. Concepcion is a constant ball of motion. There’s almost no moment in the fight where he isn’t either punching, moving side to side, setting something up from distance, or switching his stance. Even when he’s not doing anything offensively, he’s giving Leyva no chance to find an opening or get any rhythm.
AND DOWN GOES ROBERTO LEYVA, AND HE IS DOWN HARD!
IT IS OVER!
WHAT A SHOT!
Luis Concepcion KO-4
