Not sure if anything will be televised, but there’s a women’s fight (at ATOMWEIGHT), an eight-rounder at 140, and Takuya Kogawa against a Thai kid making his pro debut.

Didn’t really plan it. It just happened this way. I’ve taken to doing the Friday Sky show, Brick picked up the show in Poland at the same time, the Panama show happened to be there, Darren Barker is a fighter I like so I grabbed that, the HBO show was a no-brainer, and this one was just a matter of finding a way to watch it. All in all it added up. I’m 99.9% certain this was the most live coverage we’ve done in a month to date. 17 shows overall.

I’ve done 6am in an airport, and not a good one. The South Bend regional airport. Had to kill a couple hours there. Luckily I was going to Cincinnati and then Orlando, so at least it was stuff worth looking forward to. (Cincinnati airport is awwwwesome)

Naito-Kameda R1

Naito swings a right, and misses. Koki flicking a jab, Naito doing the same. Naito with a long right to the belly, just short. Koki warned for using his head early. Both are shooting in, and then the other guy will bounce right out. Naito with some left hooks, wide. Kameda lands a sharp straight left, first significant punch of the fight.

Naito with a right to the body, and now he tries to mix up his attack in close before bouncing back out again. A minute left in a winnable round for both men. Koki’s lead left doesn’t get there. Kameda with a counter left, but Naito comes back with a strong right, though it’s partially blocked. Koki using his speed, now showboating his left hand, and landing it leading on a lunge. Quick right hook by Kameda, and Naito ends the round winging haymakers.

Naito-Kameda R2

Lead left lands for Koki, then he gets a sharp right hook to the body. He’s popping him with pure speed when Naito comes in and goes out now, good counter punching work by the challenger. Left hand Kameda after Naito misses another looping right hand. Naito’s plain getting out-quicked so far.

Right hand lands for Naito, but again partially blocked, and there didn’t appear to be much starch on it. Right hook again for Kameda. Left hand for Kameda. Naito needs to find some answers. Looks like Naito might be bleeding from the nose.

Another clash of heads warned, and yes, Naito is bloodied.

Naito throwing on a lunge, this time comes in so far that Kameda’s counters can’t land. Kameda’s big on celebrating rounds he thinks he won. At least he’s been right so far.

Naito-Kameda R3

Naito starting to clip Kameda a bit in the first minute of this round, but still not landing much square. Naito complains of another clash of heads. Honestly, no one’s really doing anything wrong, but the way these guys are lunging and sitting down on shots, plus the righty-lefty matchup, it’s gonna happen.

Naito making Kameda miss some, and the clipping is winning the round with a minute to go. He’s moving around much better, getting out faster, and seems to have adjusted to stop getting hit so easily on the way out. Right to the body by Naito, that was a solid punch. Left by Kameda is just barely off the mark, but does land. Naito’s best round for sure.

Naito-Kameda R4

Now we’ll see if Koki can adjust to a Naito who has stopped making the early mistakes.

Naito with a very nice flurry in the corner halfway into a round that he’s again controlling. The straight left from Kameda is missing, as is the right hook counter he was landing early. He’s getting backed into the ropes pretty easily by Naito. Kameda slips as they tie up. To be honest, I think Naito is being a bit rough on purpose, trying to get into Kameda’s head.

Kameda starting to make his own lunges forward now, and Naito seems happy to be the counter-puncher. Naito has Kameda trapped in the corner, and he’s throwing big shots! Kameda is meeting him! This place will explode if someone goes down.

Naito-Kameda R5

Koki using his speed again early in the round, and again when he does that, he’s clearly got more firepower than Naito, at least how it seems to me. I don’t think it’d be a bad idea to get into a firefight, even. He’s quicker, looks stronger, has landed the harder shots so far. He’s the straighter puncher.

Naito with a clubbing right, but then he’s almost shoved away with a left from Kameda. Naito doing his best to stay away from Kameda’s left hand. He’s definitely felt the power of that shot. And there he feels it again! Naito backed down, swinging wild, and getting hit. Good round for Kameda.

Naito-Kameda R6

This has been, in a lot of ways, a “What do you like?” fight so far for scoring. I think both have done solid work at various points, and both have made some mistakes. So far, a good fight.

Naito starting to press now, and it looks like Kameda might have gotten caught by surprise a little bit. Left hand by Kameda. Right to the body by Kameda, and he’s settled back in. Naito with a right just after I say that. Man, Naito is swinging for the fences on a lot of punches.

Naito really loves that “spread your arms and stomp” move.

Naito pressing again, throwing bombs at Kameda. Right hand by Naito counters a straight left attempt by Kameda.

Naito-Kameda R7

Even if they never say so, I think both guys will leave this fight with more respect for the other man.

These guys are honestly just begging for this to end on a nasty clash of heads. Again, not that they’re doing it on purpose. It’s just so close to happening so frequently.

Halfway into this round, and it feels like Naito is taking the reins and putting this fight where he wants it, when he wants to. But I thought that after four rounds, too, and Kameda came right back. Body shot by Naito. Kameda sternly warned about using the head, couldn’t tell if Naito got the same.

Kameda with a charge now! Naito punctuates the round with a wild right that glances.

Naito-Kameda R8

Sneaky little left by Kameda. Long right by Naito is short. Long is short. In is out.

Naito with a right to the body. I think he’s lost a little bit of steam on his punches, but nothing drastic. Another sneaky left by Kameda. That’s more of what he was doing in the first couple of rounds, when I thought he was handily winning. Very nice short counter right by Kameda! Commentator nearly wakes the dead.

Naito’s nose seems to be bothering him a bit more every round.

Good round for Koki.

Naito-Kameda R9

Naito might feel some urgency. I guess that’s the one decent thing you can get out of open scoring, but I still hate it. Plus it’s so close in this fight that, like, whatever.

Naito is unloading some good shots here early in the final minute of the round, and that’s what he’s going to have to do. He needs to make some statements. Kameda is still getting the left to land, and occasionally when he uses his right hook, he’s still finding it. He looks stronger and much fresher at this stage.

Naito-Kameda R10

Kameda finds that left hand again, with Naito leaning low and looking at the ground while throwing a right hand. Kameda sort of pushing him around with his strength now. Naito really has to be in do or die mode — this is the time where he has to step up and win this fight if he plans to leave with his title.

Good left by Kameda, good left by Naito in return. Naito gets him to the ropes, throws, and doesn’t land. Then he lets Kameda walk right off. Sneaky left again by Kameda. Just a short, accurate little left hand, and with Naito’s nose already busted up, who knows how much extra effect that little shot has?

Naito ducking low, making Koki miss, but not throwing back. There’s a thudding left hook by Naito, and now they trade at center ring! Kameda thinks better of it, and I think he narrowly wins another round.

Naito-Kameda R11

Naito eating more left hands. He seems to have no answer for that punch anymore. Right hook by Kameda. Kameda pops him to the body with a counter right. Naito just isn’t landing the shots he needs. He’s trying, bless him, but he’s way more fatigued, more beaten up, and this is slipping away by the minute.

HARD counter right by Kameda. Naito misses an uppercut badly, Kameda doesn’t capitalize. Another left by Kameda. Naito’s arms seem to be moving underwater at times now.

Naito-Kameda R12

Naito throwing the bombs, and Kameda keeping his gloves very high, trying to shove Naito away from him. Looks like Koki is OK protecting what he perceives to be a lead, and he should be right — this should be in the bag for him.

Counter right hook by Kameda, so he’s not turtling or Oscar biking around the ring or anything. Left hook by Naito. Yeah, his punches have lost a lot of zip. Naito, again bless him, is swinging for the fences and going for the gusto. Kameda backed into the ropes, and he punches his way off. Counter right, and then a left from Kameda. Honestly, even with Naito throwing a lot and Kameda doing plenty of covering, Kameda’s still landing the better punches.

10 seconds!

Naito throwing, Kameda slaps him with another right hand.

We should have a new WBC flyweight titleholder.

Kameda 10-9
Kameda 116-112

Naito was throwing some serious leather and Kameda did a great job countering it.

Yeah, I enjoyed it. It might also be that I’m deliriously tired, but I feel it was worth the staying awake.

I doozed off…. I couldn’t wake up at 5 to see this fight…

SC… you are a champ. More impressive than seeing the Judah PPV or the awful Tarver fights…
