Casamayor-Davis R1

Eight-round fight.

Casa with a jab. He does look … I dunno. Not tight. Not fat or anything, but sort of like Marquez looked fighting Mayweather. Davis coming to Casamayor, throwing rights after his jab, going to the body a little bit. He’s certainly not showing any fear, and why should he? He has absolutely nothing to lose with this fight. Casamayor has his career to lose.

Casamayor looks rusty, which he should. He hasn’t fought in 14 months and the last time he did he got stopped for the first time ever. Davis trying to fire a lead right, but he’s not good enough or fast enough. Casa turning him a lot. He’s too good defensively for Davis. Shocker!

Casamayor 10-9

Casamayor-Davis R2

Joel throwing the leather to start this round. Looks like he felt Davis out enough for his liking. He’s shooting a straight left in, but he also doesn’t appear to have any zip on it at all. Davis is just walking through those shots and continuing to chase Casamayor. Davis is willing to bring the fight, willing to try and counter. He won’t be able to counter Casa, even though Joel might really be 44 years old. Nice counter right by Davis — well, “nice.” Uppercut by Davis, Casamayor falls down on a slip. Feet got tangled.

More of the same while I take a phone call.

Casamayor 10-9, but you could maybe score these rounds for Davis
Casmayor 20-18

Casamayor-Davis R3

Commentators think Casamayor looks like he isn’t exactly thrilled with how this is going. Casamayor is now getting chased around. Casa eats two hard rights. When he throws, there’s nothing on his shots. Casamayor looks really weak at this weight. Davis isn’t showing any reaction to these shots. Casa with a left.

Really not the worst fight or anything. Kind of a Friday Night Fights sort of thing going on. I dunno, Casa doesn’t look good. I know he’s rusty, but any run he thinks he’s going to make at 140 ain’t happening as best I can tell. Davis is giving Casamayor more looks than he might have wanted tonight. Pretty close round — I’ll tell you, after three rounds of this, a Davis knockout would not shock me.

Davis 10-9
Casamayor 29-28

Casamayor-Davis R4

Casamayor having some breathing problems between rounds. Right hand by Davis. Joel is trying to be sneaky from the outside, but it’s just not going so hot. Casamayor with the sloppiest right hook of his career, perhaps. Body shot and a hook/uppercut from Joel. Left lands for Joel. Davis with a combo ending on a hook. Casamayor clinches and spins him again. He loves that move, by God.

Body right by Davis. Casamayor potshotting a little bit, dancing with his hands low on the outside. He takes control in the final minute, getting a little more into his rhythm. Still has nothing on his punches, but he’s getting a little more confident it appears. Still, Davis came to win this thing.

Casamayor 10-9
Casamayor 39-37

Casamayor-Davis R5

Robert Byrd getting in Casamayor’s grill a little more than he does Davis’. BIG right by Davis! Casa took it well, and now he gets his range. Left hook by Davis! Casamayor backed into his corner now — he went from one corner to another, and now he continues to work around the ring near the ropes.

Boy Joel looks awful this round. Davis lights him up again. And again he tags him at will near the bell. Very strong round for the “bum.”

Davis 10-9

Casamayor-Davis R6

Here they trade at center ring, and Casamayor got the better of that one. But he still can’t get Davis to back off at all. This is not a good sign for Joel Casamayor’s comeback. Rust or not, he should be wasting this guy, and he can’t even get him to back off. Still, this is a much better round than the fifth. Casamayor has flashes of looking like half of what he used to be, and this round has had a lot of that.

Beautiful little left hand potshot by Casa. He’s schooling Davis now, who decides to charge. Casa drilling him at will! And Davis can’t land anything now.

Great turnaround round for the vet.

yeah pretty much

I really enjoyed the Sky card earlier and I’m pumped up for two shows tomorrow. Plus I wanted to see how Casa looked, and I want to see what Judah might say about his amazing win over a guy with a .500 record who hasn’t fought in two years.

Casamayor-Davis R7

Casamayor turning up the heat a bit, timing Davis, starting to get into his groove, and he’s finally got Davis thinking before he lunges now. Casa still doesn’t look strong, but he’s now completely in control of the fight and looks like he’ll cruise to the decision. Davis swings a left hook, cant’ find it. In fact he can’t find anything anymore. This has turned into what you’d expect. But there’s two rights from Davis, and he keeps punching, but Casamayor just backs off and gets his range again. Another Casa round.

Casamayor-Davis R8

Commentators have it 68-66 and 67-66 for Casamayor, so we’re all seeing the same fight basically. These guys aren’t the most charismatic, but they’re being honest and not just kissing ass. Pretty solid performance.

Davis chasing and missing a lot again. He looks like he’s going to press this until the end of the fight, though. Good for him. Dude came here to screw up Casamayor’s career and gave it a valiant shot. Casamayor is mostly running this round. I rarely say fighters are running, but that’s what he’s doing. Casa with a couple little potshots now and again, and Davis landing here and there. Davis with a right to the chest, but Casa gets back on the bike. Little counter left by Joel. Davis ends it punching. Good effort by Davis, Casamayor does enough to get the W.

It’s admirable, but these guys talking about Judah-Ubaldo fucking Hernandez like it’s relevant or something is kind of annoying. The reason a lot of things don’t add up in a logical sense is this is a bullshit fight with a hand-picked bum opponent, guys.

Judah-Hernandez R1

Hernandez, a righty, comes out fighting southpaw. Ubaldo throws a heavy left that misses. Slow first minute, but Judah’s looking in good shape. I wonder if he regrets not fighting on the show a million people watched? I wonder if he thinks about the guy who wasn’t good enough to fight him fighting on HBO on December 12? You know, while he main events at the Palms with a retired scrub.

Hellacious body shot by Judah. And Hernandez goes down on a jab to the body. 15 seconds to go in the round. Zab goes at him, and Hernandez down again. Cortez calls it a slip, and it did look like it was one.

“Welcome back, Zab Judah!”

Yeah! It’s impressive!
