Far be it from me to defend Ohio State, but their record in BCS bowl games this decade is 3-3, and they were very competitive last season against Texas. They’re not quite the yearly embarrassment they’re made out to be.

about slaton, there have always been a 3-back rotation. brown would come in for 1-2 yard 3rd downs and fail, moats would come in once slaton got tired, and slaton was the starter. NOW i think slaton and moats’ role will be reversed. slaton on the bench for most of the game while moats just keeps on runnin’

Valuev stalking. Shoots two jabs, Haye stays away. This size difference is fucking enormous. Haye to the body a couple times, but not a ton on it. He looks a bit intimidated by what’s standing in front of him. Haye circling near the ropes, going all the way around the ring. Haye fires a right, misses. He almost jumped. Right hand by Valuev. Haye shoots a jab and then zips back out. Sheridan keeps saying Valuev has done “practically nothing” this round. Haye with a quick in-out combo, not much comes of it. Sheridan is…awful. I’m sorry, the man is awful. He has no idea what bias he wants to have in this fight so he keeps switching teams.
Kind of tough round to score, I give it to Haye on shots landed, but he’s gonna have a hard time winning rounds in Germany by circling and shooting and shooting right back out.

It’s like they’re surprised that Valuev isn’t some amazingly skilled boxer.
Haye misses a left hook, Sheridan says it lands. Hey, why not. Valuev keeps trying to jab, but Haye is nowhere near him. This more or less looks exactly like Valuev-Holyfield, except Haye’s faster than Holyfield and Valuev isn’t just standing still at center ring. Valuev lands a jab eventually. Haye keeps trying to jab to the body. Big right by Haye — NO reaction by Valuev. NONE. I mean that was on the money and it did nothing.

Valuev-Haye R3
The referee just had to ask them to, like, fight each other. Valuev just can’t find Haye. He’s not quick enough and Haye is doing the wise thing and fighting very, very cautiously. Valuev short on a right hand. Big combo by Haye. Valuev seemed to feel that one just a little bit. I think Haye might be getting a bit more confident now that he’s gauged Valuev’s (lack of) speed. He seems more intent on finding openings, even though he’s mostly just feinting and occasionally coming in still.
Left hook by Haye. And back to the circle. Right by Haye clips him.

Valuev with a soft shot that lands. Valuev is moving more than he did against Evander, but not landing any more. Haye is back to the ring circle. He’s fucking mall walking and occasionally throwing a punch, yet easily winning the fight by my eyes. There’s a right by Haye that clips Valuev again. Two jabs by Valuev, but Haye backs off so much they don’t really matter at all. Left hook by Haye. Body shot by Valuev, left by Haye misses. Haye swings big, missing and then blocked.

Frankly a defensible card right now could be 3-2 Valuev.
Haye throws a massive left hook with about a minute left in the round, again Valuev shows no reaction. Haye is trying to go in and out, one shot at a time, very occasionally throwing two or three, and mostly just staying the fuck away. Valuev, meanwhile, keeps firing his jab out and mostly missing. Uh oh, it almost turned into a fight at the end of the round. I thought that was another Valuev round. The pace is all Valuev. He’s landing just as much. Haye is not going to win this fight fighting this way.

Yeah, Valuev is looking to land now. He’s trying to double the jab a bit now. Valuev with a left hook that misses and a chopping right that glances. Haye has done nothing this round. He’s starting to put the heat on Haye. I think he can sense that Haye wants nothing to do with a genuine fight here.
Left by Valuev, Haye throws wild shots that miss. Left hook by Haye, Valuev lands a little shot too. Valuev with a jab, and another. Right hand by Valuev lands as Haye tries to escape to Valuev’s right. This is starting to go Valuev’s way.

Valuev doesn’t care about Haye’s constant feinting, which Adam Booth HAS to be seeing given that he keeps telling Haye to feint and be careful. Valuev with a jab to the chest. Oh boy, left hook by Valuev JUST misses. Haye is so tentative at this point. I mean he watched Valuev-Holyfield, didn’t he? He knows how these Valuev fights have been scored.

Haye’s somehow even more tentative this round. Valuev with a quick combo, not a ton on it but it happened at least. Jab by Valuev. Haye jumps back after another shot thrown. Great right hand by Haye gets through in a three punch combo. Stealable round for either with 45 seconds left.
Stealable with 15 seconds left too. Right by Haye. And then he takes off. Left to the body by Haye. I think he squeaked out this round.

Same story as the last few rounds. Haye lands one good shot, but Valuev pretty much dominates the rest of the round. Haye needs to do more than that or buzz Valuev with the shot to get that kind of round on my card.

I would be surprised if the german judges agreed with me though. One can make a more than reasonable argument that Haye is losing badly.

God knows what the ringside judges have. There are so many scores I’d readily accept for this fight. If Haye has “YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE CHAMPION AND THAT MEANS SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE’RE SAYING” judges in Germany, he’s fucked.
Neither of them do much of anything for half a round. Haye mostly misses a huge right hand with about 30 seconds left in the round. I have no idea what to make of this round. It’s been awful. Valuev with a body shot. Haye hit with a right at the end, but it came when he was throwing.

you have a guy with a foot height advantage doing nothing but throwing jabs against a much smaller man.
