still don’t see how this asshole winning is good for boxing. from what i’ve read from the comments on the fight thread, he had a miserable performance and the hope of the impact people were hoping he would have have pretty much been diminished

of course its good for boxing, he’s a far more dynamic boxer and personality than Valuev, at the very least. No, it was not that exciting a fight, but that doesn’t lessen the impact of him actually winning.

my point was that even with all the potential barn burners that could hpapen with Haye in it, he’s going to get demolished by either Klitschko bros and he could even lose his own title to the likes of Arreola, adamek, chambers, etc. that title he has will just be a carousel of title-holders, and if he ever gets the balls to finally go through with a klitschko fight he’s going to lose his title to one of them and the almighty “boring, terrible for the HW” klitschko’s will have an even stronger stranglehold on the division.

But he has the chance. Valuev was never going to fight either of the Klitschkos and he’d have been beaten by them pretty easily too. Valuev tries, but he’s awful. There’s nothing good that has ever come of Valuev holding that title.

in the fight thread yesterday you said he had no chance to beat the klitschkos, so what has changed? i’m a klitschKO fan, so honestly i’m not a fan of all this “klitschkos suck for heavyweights” talk which might contribute to my dislike of this guy

I don’t think he has a chance to beat a Klitschko. I think he has a chance to fight them now, which he wouldn’t have had he lost to Valuev. And I’d sure as hell rather see either of them against Haye than pretty much anyone else they might fight. At least Haye can punch and is fast.

Well he hurt Valuev....

sorry about coming back to this late
Clearly he would be the underdog against either Klitschko. Its just much more interesting this side of the pond now, and it has had a Huge impact over here at least, and with the way he talks, I’m sure he will in the States too. No-one here cared how he won really.
And I think he’s shown he’s savvy enough not to get ‘demolished’ by either Klit. Anyway, we’ll go back and forth on this when it comes up again and will actually keep up…..you’ll show some Haye love yet, battleaxe…. ;)

Look at the possible matchups with Areola, Ruiz, the Klitschkos even Adamek as the commenter below me said. Now imagine those same guys fighting Valuev.
The potential of fights with a colorful trash talker who can back up his mouth with some speed and skill vs Valuev is what makes for good boxing.

No one has ever looked good against Valuev. Haye having the title means we might get a few decent fights out of the WBA belt. Valuev having it means you get zero.

Haye did exactly what he had to do. Anyone tuning in to hoping to see him fight his brash style like he’s shown before has the blinkers on. You would have to be insane to stand and trade with Valuev.

Valuev isn’t a big hitter and is slow as fuck… he fought scared and no one really appreciates that…

He didn't need to stand and trade
But it would have been nice to see him throw more than one or two flurries a round. He had tons of counter opportunities that he just plain didn’t take advantage of. You can fight defensively and still throw punches.

I think Adamek would crush him….
