Trash Talking 101 – Now in Session
One has to wonder how far the trash talking will go for this epic fight. One, however, does not have to wonder where it'll take place. It most likely gets done in Las Vegas and the MGM Grand will, most likely, be the place that hosts it. However, the trash talking is going to be one of the greatest things ever witnessed in the history of sporting events. Think about the major players in this saga. On one hand, you have Freddie Roach. On another hand, you have Roger Mayweather. These two really don't, for lack of a better word, like each other. They really, really, really do not like each other. However, one cannot deny the fact that Manny Pacquiao fired the first shot.
Manny Pacquiao: "The difference between Floyd and others I have fought is that Floyd makes a lot of trash talk that should not be imitated by young people."
This will not be the last of the trash talking. Floyd has already threatened to pull out of the fight should the weight issue not go his way. And he's the one that has earned the weight right in this fight. Pacquiao is moving up to fight Floyd, not the other way around. Manny needs this fight more than Floyd does. Floyd's legacy is already entrenched as one of the greatest of all-time. Not of his time, this time, or past time but of all-time. Manny, to many, is there as well. However, not to me he is not. His best win is his past victory. He looked very good against Miguel Cotto. However, Cotto is no Floyd. No one has the ring presence, defensive prowess, or intelligence that Floyd has. No one makes in-ring adjustments like Floyd does and no opponent has found a gameplan to beat Floyd. Pacquiao needs this fight.
I'll be talking a lot more about this fight as it grows closer or, if worst comes to worst, gets canceled. One has to wonder, though. At what risk is it to get into a trash talking battle with Floyd and Roger? At some point, Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao have to realize that they need to rise above the trash talk and focus on the very difficult task at hand. Beating Floyd Mayweather is going to take 100% of dedication and 0% of trash talk. Leave the trash talk to Floyd and Roger. No need to lose two battles on the way to losing the war. Work with the hands and feet of Manny Pacquiao will win this fight; not work with the lips and tongue. Words mean very little in this fight; actions mean the most. When these two take the ring, actions will definitely speak louder than words. And what a loudness we'll be privileged to listen to. It'll be like the first time I ever listened to Bach and Beethoven. Or, like the first time I listened to Eminem and Kanye West.
As Eminem once said in the song Till I Collapse, “I will not fall, I will stand tall, feels like no one could beat me.” Both these men need to go into that ring ready to die and no amount of words will prepare them for what awaits them inside that hellish prison called a boxing ring. From the moment the first jab or lead left is thrown, the crowd in attendance and the largest pay-per-view audience in boxing history will stand witness to the night the hurricane hit the shores of boxing. It'll be as if Ludwig van Beethoven himself was in the middle of that ring performing the Fur Elise once again. It'll be as if Michelangelo himself was painting the masterpiece at the Sistine Chapel. It'll be an artwork. A impressionistic piece that will live on infamy. A night where everyone will remember for the rest of their lives and for the rest of history. No one will forget. And the last thing people want is one fighter to be caught up in the talking rather than the fighting.
Words can only take you so far. When you get to the end of that road, it's time for your fists to start doing the talking.

With all due respect, if Manny is only as good as his last fight, there’s no reason Floyd should be considered anything more than as good as his last one. He’s coming back from 18 months of not fighting, got back into the ring against a fighter who is usually fighting several weight classes below him – and decisioned him. Manny’s last two fights were against the cream of the crop of his own weight class – and he made Ricky Hatton (who was 45-1) look like an over-the-hill amateur before beating the spirit and will out of Miguel Cotto (who came in with a record of 32-1). Both of them were easily among the top10 in their weight classes and neither had to come up 10lbs (and have their opponent blatantly fail to make weight).
Pretty Boy Floyd may have the filthier mouth and he may well win the trash talking war. However, the war of the words proves nothing. If Floyd pulls out of this one, the only reason is that he is scared of Manny. He’s scared of putting his precious darling perfect record on the line against a real challenger. He is the one who needs this fight. Manny has made a career of taking on the best opposition available while Money May has fought exclusively lighter opponents or name fighters who were over the hill.
It’ll be a fight we all will remember. However, the stakes are different. Were Manny to lose, he’d still be one of the best fighters of an era. If Floyd loses, he’ll be exposed to be a very good fighter who wasn’t as good as his padded record would show.

if Manny is only as good as his last fight
Who said that? I think someone be mental if they thought that only the last fight a boxer had counted towards their standing.
Money May has fought exclusively lighter opponents or name fighters who were over the hill.
To be fair his wins aren’t all like that. They were all top ten opponents at least. Obviously Pacquiao’s resume is far superior but Maywetaher’s isn’t as bad or false as it’s sometimes made out to be.
If Floyd loses, he’ll be exposed
People are exposed when they lose to journeymen or people brought in for tune up fights, not by the p4p number one or two in the world. If Floyd loses he will have lost to an amazing fighter, no shame there.

Nice writeup

Basically
A C+ write-up, as Floyd would say. Floyd needs this fight more than Manny for legacy. Look at the Hall of Famers on each fighter’s respective records. Manny owns a bigger stake in the welterweight division than Floyd does. Baldomir is a bum, Judah is a head case who had already seen his best days by the time Floyd got to him. Hatton and Mitchell had 0 meaningful fights (combined) at welterweight before Floyd. JMM is a lightweight that really belongs at 130.
Cotto is an accomplished, true welterweight in his prime. 147 is mostly Shane’s, but Manny has a secondary claim before Floyd.
