Ornelas trying to come forward, but he’s not quick with his feet or hands so if B-Hop feels like avoiding him the way he’s doing all night, he’ll be able to. Bernard with a chopping little left inside. Bernard has a lot of grease on his head, which I thought maybe just appeared heavy to start the fight for whatever reason, but that’s really too much.
Pretty typical Hopkins opening round. He plays tactics, Ornelas tries to put on pressure and isn’t effective with it at all.

Hopkins with a left hook, now playing defense as Ornelas bum rushes him. The round was a lot of Bernard shutting Ornelas down and landing a few good shots of his own, and then they have a quick little tear-up near the bell.

Hey, it’s Michael Vick! The class level has been upped in a major way.
Hopkins with some potshot rights inside, as he continues to more effectively make his presence known. And about halfway into the round they start warring a little bit, with Ornelas landing some decent punches, but eating a few back. Ornelas is breathing heavier between the two. No surprise that Hopkins is in great shape, but Ornelas really does look like he’s going to gas at some point.

Couple of good rights from Ornelas early in the round, and one from Hopkins. Nice right from Ornelas again a bit past halfway through the round. His pressure is starting to look better. Really good round for Ornelas, as he’s starting to get into a bit of a rhythm.

Kind of a hard fight to talk about. It’s Bernard doing his work, and Ornelas is doing his best to stick with him.

Big combination by Hopkins stings Ornelas! Nice stuff by Bernard early in this round, and he’s starting to press. And then Ornelas lands a nice right hand as Bernard swings to the body. Enrique is really doing as well as I could have possibly expected. Hopkins with two sharp rights. Bernard with more nice work near the bell, and this was maybe his most dominant round of the fight.

All things considered, this is really not the big time impressive performance Hopkins probably wanted, but whatever. He’s been more than impressive enough in his career. He’s still Bernard Hopkins, and he can still go.
And he’s pretty much outmuscled Ornelas all night. Ornelas with a sneaky left hand that catches Hopkins by surprise. Hopkins plays D the rest of the round.

Hopkins popping away at range, making Ornelas miss. Uppercut by Hopkins. That punch has been there all night. Ornelas flurries in close, but not much comes of it. Hopkins stalking, then ties him up and the round ends.

Hopkins with a right, Ornelas gets him back, and Hopkins lands again as a counter to the counter. And there’s another right for Hopkins. This is a complete Hopkins fight. This isn’t the spectacular sort of stuff we’ve seen against Pavlik or Tarver in recent years, more vintage Hopkins. He’s winning, doing it wide, and there’s no doubt who the better fighter is. This is the first time he’s been the very clear favorite in a good while, which makes this a bit less impressive, but in my opinion he’s been no less dominant.
Actually, Ornelas is putting up a better fight than Pavlik did.

Tyipical Hopkisn beat down fight as he got stronger as the fight progressed. As soosn as I realized that Orneales was Librado Andrade’s brother, I knew he would be difficult to stop. But 20 more seconds would have done it. Not bad for a 44/45 year old. Great 12-round workout.
