Bouts rumored to be in the works

  1. James Toney against either Antonio Tarver or Odlanier Solis. It's unclear what weight a Tarver fight would be at, but I have doubts that Toney could make 200 even if he tried. He's just let himself go for too long.
  2. Devon Alexander versus Marcos Maidana, March 6, on HBO
  3. Humberto Soto versus the winner of Valero-DeMarco. Soto should be ringside to call out the winner, and if Valero wins, Soto-Valero is probably the best fight Bob Arum can make.
  4. Chad Dawson versus Jean Pascal, in June, in Canada. As noted previously, Pascal would need to heal from recent shoulder surgery before he could start training.
  5. Albert Sosnowski versus Audley Harrison. Sosnowski won the European heavyweight title last weekend, and Audley's coming off a Prizefighter victory. I don't even want to think about either of these two getting in there with a Klitschko.

Questions/Comments

1. Solis? I just came in at 271 because I’m a lazy POS Solis? Really? Against Toney? It better be at HW cause Solis aint coming down to Cruiser even tho he fought there during the Olympics. Tarver mos def wants to fight but I’m not sure the weight is going to be right for Toney.

2. Salivating over that matchup. I’m really high on Alexander because of his speed and Maidana the destroyer of prospects. Should be a lot of fun.

3. Soto-Valero should be fun, however the inner-scientist in me thinks Valero really shouldn’t be fighting because of his previous hemotoma. If Valero get past DeMarco, not so certain this will hapen, VAlero Soto will be a decent step up for both fighters

4. Yes! Should be good but I still see bad chad winning a fairly wide decision.

5. Eh…I don’t have much interest in a third-tier HW fight. It might be a good matchup, but probably lacking in the skills department.

I'd be surprised if Sos-Fraudley is a good matchup

On paper, it looks like an adequate substitute for soma. Only four good rumors, so I had to fill out the 5-long list with something.

Lacking in the skills department?

That has never been Audley’s problem…. he has copious amounts of skill……

Toney UD Tarver (about 2/3 rounds)
Solis SD Toney (in the most boring 36 minutes ever seen…. this would be akin to slug racing.)

Maidana KO8 Alexander (Alexander winning on all three cards, but accumulation of damage just too much)

Valero W; Soto (K.I.A-7)

Pascal SD Dawson (one wide card for Dawson, two narrow ones for Pascal)

Harrison/Sosnowski TKO4 Audience…..

well, 3 out of 5 ain’t bad. I’m not interested in seeing James “Man boobs bigger than Arreola’s” Toney or Harrison. But Dawson-Pascal should be pretty good; Maidana in anything is good, and the little guys will be OK as well.

I have some sort of morbid interest in seeing Fraudley v Wladimir. He has the power and the tall southpawness that has bothered Wlad so much in the past so I could convince myself that this could conceivably be interesting, but mostly I’d just get to see Fraudley unconscious again. It has been too long.

man

Tarver at heavyweight. I think yes. Mason “The Line” Dixon needs to get his respect back.

I’ve only ever seen him in that one fight. Was his fight vs. Kotelnik any fun?

by taco pal on Dec 21, 2009 5:16 PM EST up reply actions

it was indeed

And you can easily argue he should have won. Maidana’s a hoot. Honestly I sort of feel bad that Ortiz-Maidana is remembered more for the way it ended and the post-fight than how kickass a war it was.

Every fighter should come out

to this. It should be a rule!

Every fighter except for Sultan Ibragimov, who should continue to do his ringwalk to Rick Ross. (I really wish that was up on Youtube.)
