Pacquiao and Mayweather agree on 50-50 split
Every time I say it, I feel like I should knock on wood, but this fight is a go for March 13. Make no mistake about it, this is going to happen in just a few months. Dan Rafael says that the two sides agreed to a 50-50 split, among other things. Here's the rundown:
The camps agreed to a 50-50 split of the money, which could be gargantuan. Many experts expect the fight to eclipse the all-time pay-per-view record for sales, which is the 2.44 million buys generated by Mayweather's 2007 victory against Oscar De La Hoya.
Both fighters will wear 8-ounce gloves but each fighter will be allowed to select the brand of gloves he will wear for the fight.
For promotional purposes, the bout will be referred to as Mayweather-Pacquiao, but Top Rank will receive first billing over Golden Boy throughout the promotion.
However, instead of a full-scale media tour, there will only be a single press conference in New York during the second week of January. With the schedule compressed because of the March 13 date for the fight, rather than May 1, which the promoters and HBO PPV preferred, it didn't leave time for a lengthy media tour.
The fight is going to take place March 13 because Pacquiao is running for a congressional seat in the Philippines and the elections are in May, which would have been a conflict between his training and the campaign.
Well that was simple, wasn't it?
There's really nothing I can say that hasn't been said already. This is as big as it gets. This is as important as it gets. This is a fight people will talk about in 50 years. This is one for the time capsule.

You have to link and you can’t copy the entire article. Plus I would have done this anyway, because FanShots don’t get picked up by Google News, etc.

Feel free to do so in the future
Sometimes it’s the best way for one of us to catch the news, is to see a fanpost or a fanshot. We just have to watch out for the copyright issues.

If I'm not crazy busy with work then
I’ll try to cover the press conference in person.

LV is still the odds on favorite
with Dallas and NO a distant 2nd and 3rd, I’d think.

It probably has to be Vegas
But I really want it to be Dallas

and I'm in NOLA
so I’d love to see the Dome. You all will have a lot more fun here than in Dallas, I promise.

decent
but not even in the top 25% of the restaurants here. You need to hit Jaques-Imo’s, Bayona, Galatoire’s, August, Commander’s, etc etc etc. to get the real deal NOLA food.

I actually had a really good dish at K-Pauls when I was there. Also ate at Mr. B’s, Red Fish Grill, NOLA, among others. I really really enjoyed New Orleans when I was there last New Years.

I’m really hoping Vegas since I was already scheduled to be in town that weekend (by an odd coincidence) and that would just be too cool.

Phenominal effort
by all involved to get this fight done so quickly. A great sign for boxing that public demand made this thing happen almost instantly.
And expect the unexpected in this fight — everyone calling for the Floyd UD is going to be shocked, IMO. Manny is going to go out on his shield before he lets PBF coast to a decision win. I see Manny by TKO, or Floyd by KO when he catches Manny coming in a little too wildly.

im suprised that manny
Agreed to his name being second (and I’m assuming his picture will b on the left in promo ads and so on) even tho he holds the title theyl fight for. But with that said I’m very happy this is happening with no hassles. I wonder if theyr are rematch clauses…

DALLAS DALLAS DALLAS! If this fight is held in Dallas, boys I’m telling you we need to have a big party. I’d stay at a nearby hotel, since I don’t what to fight the traffic with 100,000 people showing up. (For those of you who don’t know, there is NO public transporation to the stadium). I’ll host a hospitality suite with my peeps here at Bad Left Hook (and other unnamable boxing sites).
There is no public transportation in Texas…
I am more than sure I will make the flight over there with some of my Pinoy friends if the fight happens in Dallas.

Manny
is famous at this point for fighting through a lot of distractions, but taking this fight early so that he can run for public office might not be the best idea in the history of boxing.
And anyone would be a fool to think Floyd has been asking for the fight to be at 154 and wear the 10 oz gloves
That’s absurd

Outside of a very few instances, give the Examiner’s as little respect as you can possibly muster.

Wow… honestly that was horrible…
You can’t use 10 ounce gloves below 147…
In the Morales fight… they used Winning gloves… and not Reyes gloves…
If you ever have used gloves you would know that there is a big ass difference between Reyes gloves and anything else.
Winning are supposed to be like pillows… I never felt them. I think they are from Japan.

I hate to agree with you...
But yeah it’s only ever going to go one way. I’m just wondering how official this is I can remember reading Roachs comments and he was pretty adamant the fight not take place in March.
I hope his ear heals up though Cotto’s nasty punches ruptured a cartilage that needed extensive attention. Hopefully Pac won’t end up with cauliflower ear lol. He also got a broken hand from the Cotto fight.
I’m going to wait till something is official, official. Till there is a proper anouncement. At the moment I just can’t see this fight happening in March it makes sense from very few standpoints.
Not only is Pac going to find it very difficult to focus on training while trying to win an election but he is also going to be facing a pretty good fighter right after coming off fighting a fighter that busted him up. Now throw in the fact that his opponent isn’t giving anything up in weight and the gloves they are wearing are handheld pillows and you can see where this is going.
I’ll eat my hat if Pac wins this fight. Taking everything into consideration Mayweather will toy with a bad Pac and either KO him in the ninth or tenth or get a wide wide UD.
I’m going to predict this is going to be just like the first fight against Erik Morales.
In that fight they wore 10 ounce gloves and Pac was inexperienced at 130 and going up against one of the best that that division. Everything was against him and he got beaten… big time.
Same shit, different day.

Leaning towards Pac
Looking forward to the fight: the best offensive boxer (Pacquiao) vs the best defensive pugilist (Mayweather).
Two years ago, i would favor Mayweather with a UD victory . . however, now, with momentum on Pac’s side (KO or TKOs in his last 4 fights against bigger opponents), i now look forward to him winning either by split decision or by KO.
Keys will be: (1)Power shots from awkward angles (not the straight line shots that defensive specialists pick on) . . both right and left hand i.e. Mayweather has never been dazed with his excellent defense, however, it only takes a couple of good power shots (Pac will get his moments) and we may finally know the extent of Floyd’s brilliance or his downfall; (2) Pac Monster has already been in wars that will serve him well when the going gets tough e.g. future hall of famers Barrera, Marquez, Morales, Cotto (including common opponents Hatton and Oscar . . both of which were blasted by Pac! Interestingly, Hatton gave a couple of difficult rounds against Mayweather and past-prime Oscar almost having a win. Granted that Mayweather easily beat Marquez – the betting odds were correct “4:1 favorite” from the slow moving/bulk up Mexican fighter who was unsuccessful moving up two weight classes); (3) Mayweather camp potentially under-estimate the Pac-man (e.g. one dimensional fighter, no skills, has been beaten/ko’d, can be cut, pick your potential excuses, etc) – they will get a suprise. The hubris of "0″ defeat may prove an illusion. Just like we see in basketball, football, some teams go “0 losses” during elimination and then meeting up with a team with a few defeats early on but won the last 4 games. “Boom” – the team with immaculate record during elimination got beat on the play-offs or finals against a hungry/focused/determined foe with momentum on his side.
Its good to have strong views from either side. That will ensure this fight will be a tremendous commercial success.
Will Mayweather’s defensive wizardry be too much for the Pac Man? Will Floyd be able to glide/move, use effectively his height/reach advantage and hit his accurate pot shots all night? or Will Pac Monster and his current momentum (with the eye for history) be the blitzkreig that smashes the aura of Floyd’s invincibility? and will Pac with his power shots in awkward angles together with right timing get to sneak past Money may’s defense and create a KO? That will be answered, hopefully (i.e. since this fight has not yet been finalized) May 13th! Lets get this on . .
