Looking forward to the Mitchell-Prescott fight

I hope they play that one early in the card, although it’s unlikely.

Integrated PPV didn't pick this one up

I guess Khan-Barrera didn’t do as well as anticipated. One would think they’d at least get a legal stream up on GFL, but no US coverage for this one.

Im in Newcastle for the fight..

.. And the city is absolutely buzzing. There’s a very large jewish contingent coming up (I’m jewish myself, but I’m here as a British boxing fan) and the atmosphere should be amazing. Currently out for dinner before arriving at the Metro Radio in time for 8ish – Mitchell-Prescott is the fight that everyone is really talking about.

I simply don’t get how UK boxing commentators measure power. Salita can punch? That’s news to anyone who has seen him fight.

For a second, I thought he must have said 30

At least once or twice

I’ve seen him on the verge of knocking someone out, then taking his foot off the gas seemingly intentionally so he can keep his no-knockout streak.

Simpson-Bell R1

Bell, the taller and longer man, starts out looking to get his jab going, pawing with it, testing range. Simpson fires a left hook to the body, might’ve hit elbow. Simpson looking to get that hook going as Bell moves endlessly on the outside. Both throw rights. Simpson goes back to the body again. Bell wants nothing to do with Simpson this entire round, trying to box, but doing so ineffectively other than not getting hit much.

Simpson 10-9

Simpson-Bell R2

Simpson trying to close range quickly, throwing his hands with purpose now. Bell is going to have to do something more than flick his jab out there. Part of the problem he’s having also is that every time he steps in with a power shot, he can’t get back out quickly enough to avoid a receipt. Simpson coming in like a bull, Bell avoiding him. Neither of these rounds has had much by way of clean, effective punching.

Simpson 10-9
Simpson 20-18

I suppose you could score either round or even both for Bell, but he’s showing no aggression at all and isn’t outlanding Simpson much either.

Simpson-Bell R3

Both guys throwing more to start the third round, and neither getting the better of it just yet, but Simpson is throwing punches that are looking to hurt Bell, and Bell doesn’t have that same visual going. Left hook to the body by Simpson. Darke and Watt are more impressed by Bell than I am.

Simpson is starting to walk Bell down a lot more this round than the previous two. Right hand is barely short by Simpson, and now Bell is taking some good left hooks. Simpson is definitely closing distance easier, getting shots in, and I think we’re seeing the real turning point.

Simpson 10-9
Simpson 30-27

Simpson-Bell R5

Bell seems to understand he needs to do more than he has thus far, but I think he if he starts trying to trade, he just loses that battle because Simpson’s more confident with that style. Bell getting hit plenty this round, and Simpson is throwing two and three shots at a time. Bell not moving nearly as much as he did the first couple of rounds. Simpson is digging in with his shots. Simpson chasing him down at points now, and Bell is out of his element with how this is going, and a bit outclassed at this point, too.

Simpson-Bell R6

Simpson is hitting with both hands now, working the body some, now trapping Bell in the corner and putting in some major work. Simpson is literally pushing him back into the corner and wailing away. Bell does get in a couple decent uppercuts over there, but Simpson is clearly winning this battle. Bell is STILL stuck in the corner. Simpson with a big right. Bell, to his credit, isn’t getting desperate, is defending and fighting back. Bell nearly gets out, but then Simpson turns him and puts him right back there. Horrible round for Bell, but he did prove he can take pressure.

He could lose a bunch of times this early and still not be “exposed”. If he had been brutally knocked out, that would be one thing, because a chin isn’t going to get better over time. But he just needs to keep learning and to take training more seriously.

Mitchell-Prescott R1

Both guys a bit tentative at first. Mitchell seems rather nervy, or at the least too intense, but he’s staying away from Prescott quite well. Not really doing much otherwise, but staying away well, and he’s already lasted longer than Khan.

Prescott is whipping that big left hook out there, but not landing it. Prescott close with what would have been a bomb right hand. Something about how this looks makes me think Prescott is going to blow him up at some point.

Prescott takes a non-threatening little swipe at Mitchell after the bell.

Mitchell-Prescott R2

Mitchell comes in, but doesn’t land, and Prescott does get a body shot in. Woof, Prescott again barely misses a massive right hand. To be quite honest, Mitchell isn’t doing anything. Maybe he’s frustrating Prescott a bit, but he’s not actually landing any punches.

Referee Dave Parris is having a bit of a problem with them and lets them know it aggressively.

Prescott clips him with a right. The thing is, yes Mitchell is making him miss, but Mitchell is landing nothing at all really. I mean you do have to punch at some point. Left hook by Mitchell glances.

Mitchell-Prescott R3

Referee yells at Prescott’s corner for not cleaning up quickly enough. Meanwhile, you can see Mitchell’s corner sweeping a towel around the mat to no warning.

Prescott takes a shot, but then gets Mitchell in the corner. Mitchell swings a big uppercut, wild and dangerous. Big body shots by Prescott, Mitchell now out of sorts a bit. Parris warns Prescott about something, and Prescott isn’t thrilled with it. Neither am I. Mitchell put himself in that position in the middle of a flurry.

Darke and Watt might as well just wear KEVIN MITCHELL IS NUMBER ONE! t-shirts at this point.

Parris gets in their faces again. Mitchell with a right. This was another round for Prescott. This commentary is amazingly biased, even given the expectations.

Mitchell dipping low and putting in some nice body work now. Nice left hook to the body by Mitchell. Prescott gets Mitchell in the corner again, and starts looking for that right hand. That is a continuing complaint with Prescott: The guy has power on his jab, but he really does not use it. Focuses too much on the idea of a one-punch KO. He’s not alarmingly powerful, really, just regular powerful.

This round was definitely Mitchell’s.

Mitchell going to the body. In the end, the commentary might turn out to be fine. Prescott’s punches are getting slower and losing zip, and Mitchell is turning the tide for sure. Another left hook by Mitchell, and then he’s right out of there. Prescott cut a bit now near his left eye.

Mitchell showboating and egging Prescott on. Left hook by Prescott, and a right lands! Mitchell THROWS BACK! Mitchell is acting like he felt nothing on the power shots, but he’s also getting close to his more standard, more reckless style.

Right

Salita’s the mandatory , I think Maidana’s next though with his silly interim belt

Mitchell-Prescott R9

Honestly, this fight has grown a bit dull. Mitchell is rather easily playing his game now, and Prescott is out of the fight.

Mitchell-Prescott R10

It’s a hit-and-run affair now. Prescott is doing nothing but missing, Mitchell lands a few shots a round, and on it goes. Mitchell has this fight all but sewn up barring a knockout by Prescott.

Prescott flexes his muscles after the round. Fighters like Prescott always lose their arrogance last.

Prescott sucks

Not even a one hit wonder. Just was in the right place at the right time. I had him losing to Richard Abril as well.

Mitchell-Prescott R11

Prescott thuds a right hand, but Mitchell doesn’t show much emotion about it. Rest of the round is the same as the majority of the fight has been. Prescott is just not good.

Mitchell-Prescott R12

Prescott has been just off on about 30 tide-turning punches (potentially) in this fight. Prescott is chasing and throwing, and Mitchell looks like he’s just out there to keep his lead and stay up. But then there’s a great two-punch combination from Mitchell to keep Prescott honest.

KEVIN MITCHELL-BREIDIS PRESCOTT OFFICIAL DECISION

119-110
118-111
117-111

KEVIN MITCHELL by unanimous decision

This might end up with Mitchell fighting Michael Katsidis for a lightweight title next year, which could be a real tear-up.

According to David Haye, unbeaten fighters have an extra bit of toughness and an extra bit of stamina. That’s mind-boggling horseshit.

KHAN LETTING IT GO! Salita desperate to hold on!

Khan going at him and SALITA IS DOWN ON A FLURRY.

Salita is so outclassed it’s unreal. He looks like he wants to cry.

Khan chasing, Salita’s about finished. Khan just UNLOADING shots. LEFT HOOK AND SALITA IS DOWN AND IT IS OVER!

hes going down hard when he fights a guy with a pulse and punch imo.

I like Khan

But I pretty much agree. The more they pump up wins over shot Barrera and sorry Salita, the more drastic his fall from grace is going to seem.

It's hard to really tell anything off that

I think he’d do well against better fighters, but they’re clearly going to be very limited in ambition with the matchmaking ..,.

I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘’Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'’ (Bernard Hopkins)

If he faces Maidana

That will be a real litmus test as to how much he’s improved. Pre-Roach Khan would have been obliterated by Maidana.
