Anyone gonna be on here for the Glen Johnson fight? Not that the result isn’t a foregone conclusion. I’m glad the old man at least stays busy between his bigger fights.
BTW, whatever happened to the title eliminator he was supposed to fight? Is he still Diaconu’s mandatory?

I'm watching
I was gonna do Johnson-Judah and I wanted to see Danny O’Connor but if Johnson-Judah ran over I didn’t want to abandon that for Lorenzo-Miranda.

Both Adamek-Briggs fights were excellent
Adamek-Bell was also good, albeit one-sided.
Adamek-Dawson was a bit more so-so – he looked like he didn’t know how to pull the trigger against a lefty.

He seems to be a bigger draw than Tarver, and he’s a much more exciting fighter, yet HBO and Showtime are all over Tarver’s knob…

Tarver can talk and does it a lot. Johnson is just a fighter for the most part. He’s outspoken, but not charismatic.

11 is regular for the “special” Shobox cards like this that we usually cover. The Arce-Concepcion fight in Mexico last September technically started in the wee hours. That ruled.

Jab from Lorenzo. Both look like they’re waiting for that first opening to put a charge into one. Tentative first half of the round. Lorenzo misses an uppercut. What an insanely quiet crowd. Can I score this one 7-7?
Miranda misses a lead right, Lorenzo lands a combo. Farhood just let out the most bored, “Yeah” that I’ve heard in a while.

Lorenzo-Miranda R2
They keep saying “probing.” That’s never a good sign. Miranda looking for super wild haymakers, then doesn’t actually commit to them. Miranda caught with a glancing uppercut. Miranda misses another big right. This round is slightly more exciting than the first. Like Nick Charles I can’t fault Lorenzo for this. I don’t like it though.
Lorenzo bulling Miranda now. He’s so much thicker than Miranda. Miranda on his bike, then gets popped with a right hand. Well Lorenzo just found his in. Bull him, back him down, start firing. BIG right from Miranda, OH SHIT LORENZO FIRES BACK WITH A MASSIVE RIGHT OF HIS OWN! There’s no way he gets up. Goodnight!

Miranda better go back down in weight if he can. Lorenzo was huge compared to him. Lorenzo is a sturdy, thick 160 pounder regardless, but it was a big difference.

Adamek-Banks R1
Banks sticking a lame jab in with his left hand low. Very, very low. Right by Adamek, great counter shot by Banks and Adamek is driven backwards. Banks slaps a left hook, it glancingly lands. So far Banks looks a little tight but not too bad. There’s no doubt he still has nerves he’s battling. This is by far his biggest fight.
Right by Adamek, and he starts chopping away but missing in the final ten seconds. Right lands again. Good first round for Banks, though; he controlled most of it and landed the best punch of a tactical round.

Adamek-Banks R2
Nice right early from Banks. He looks like he just might want to do more. He lands the right again. Boy, he’s doing that more or less at will. Banks still holding his left super low at range. Banks with a quick jab. Adamek to the body. Banks to the body.
They really are stepping on each others’ toes a ton. Adamek with a couple easy pecking shots. Banks shoots that right again. Jab lands for Banks. Slow pace for both, but no clinching and it’s not lazy. Right hand from Adamek. Not enough to steal the round.

Adamek-Banks R3
Adamek’s corner advice is basically, “Don’t worry, Banks will change.” ???
Banks keeps landing these jabs that seem to be hitting Adamek’s reset button over and over. Adamek is just following Banks around the ring. Adamek with some nice jabs of his own. Adamek with some nice stuff on the ropes, lands a decent right and Banks gets out of there. Good idea to not trade. Banks throws a heavy right and misses. Banks drills him again, but now Adamek is winging shots. Another close round, winnable with 20 seconds to go.
Right from Adamek. Banks is giving Adamek a lot of trouble without much effort. Tomasz ekes this one out.

Adamek-Banks R4
Adamek pressuring a lot more this round, and Banks is starting to clinch him up now. He seems uncomfortable with the pace accelerating at all. Banks throwing HUGE rights and missing. Adamek might be getting in his head. Banks biting on feints, letting himself get walked around the ring, doesn’t seem offensively focused.
Left hook Banks, Adamek is rocked! And now Adamek clinches up. Woof. This one feels like it could pop off. Hard right by Banks goes a little too far and wide. Adamek has now backed down. Right by Adamek, Banks felt that.

Adamek-Banks R5
Jab from Banks. Adamek with a combo inside, going to the body a little. When he pressures he gets Banks off his game. It’s that simple. But he also got smoked by a left hook last round by pressuring, so maybe he’s weary of going too hard. Adamek with a looping right that catches Banks a little bit, and Banks clinches up.
Crowd comes alive with 40 seconds left. Banks gets him with another right. Adamek moving a little more when he starts throwing, looking to go more than one at a time.

Adamek-Banks R6
Banks is wilting just a bit. Not “wilting” really but not doing what he was earlier. Adamek’s aggression — which isn’t great but is there — is winning the fight now. Banks hit low and takes a moment.
A minute left in the round. BIG right by Adamek. Banks is falling out of this fight. Double left hook by Adamek. He’s pulling ahead in momentum.

first defense
But yeah two months since he won it. He got back out there. I expect him back in May or June.

Didn’t he win the IBF from Cunningham though?

Just boxrec’d it. I had the order of his fights mixed up. Thought Gomez was in between.
My memory seems to be suffering from the percocets at the moment.

Not much else to do in this hospital room. I should’ve had my girlfriend sneak me in a bottle.

He usually fights 4 times a year
DK lets his other people schedule in-between fights, which helps.

Adamek wants to fight heavyweight? Ekk… too much weight in my opinion.

maybe it was a joke that didn’t come across through the translator?

woohoo got my 8th round ko pick in the adamek fight … it was a pretty brutal finish. adamek has some heavy hands no doubt … even squared up those punches looked extremely heavy.
i guess ya coulda called it at the first knockdown, gotta watch it again. but i think the ref allowing it to continue was an ok call.
jmm ftw 2morrow!

Banks was in the fight until then. The referee was right to let Banks go out in a blaze of glory.

It was borderline to me
Banks looked like he had no idea he was in a boxing ring when they restarted. If the fighter is defenseless after 10, he’s as good as knocked out.
