Tessitore announces Peter-Chambers fight for March 27

610x_medium Though it's not a 100% done deal, ESPN2 play-by-play man Joe Tessitore announced on tonight's Friday Night Fights card that a heavyweight fight between former titleholder Samuel Peter and American Eddie Chambers is likely set for March 27 on Friday Night Fights.

Peter (30-2, 23 KO) is one of the division's biggest punchers, while Chambers (33-1, 18 KO) is one of the best technical boxers at heavyweight. Peter is attempting to come back from a brutal defeat at the hands of Vitali Klitschko last October, while Chambers is riding a three-fight bounceback winning streak after suffering his first career loss at the hands of Alexander Povetkin last January in a fight many felt he should have won and all but gave away.

The fight presents obvious challenges for both. If Chambers is smart, there is no reason he can't box circles around the lumbering, slow-fisted Peter for 12 rounds and rout him by decision. But if Chambers gets in Peter's wheelhouse, the night could end very quickly and very badly for him.

It would also serve as a serious crossroads fight for both men. Neither can really afford the loss, Peter because it would deflate his chances of getting back into the title hunt as soon as possible, and Chambers because since he's not a power puncher, he's already got an uphill climb as a heavyweight getting big fights.
