Yuriorkis Gamboa's opponent named for Feb. 20

_39911945_estrada203_medium An opponent has been named for Yuriorkis Gamboa's February 20 return to the ring on an action-packed Friday Night Fights. Colombian Walter Estrada will face the Cuban star prospect.

Estrada (35-8, 24 KO) has become a bit of a go-to gatekeeper since challenging Scott Harrison for the WBO featherweight title in 2004. Since then, he's gone 9-5, beating no one of any repute and losing to the likes of Vicente Mosquera, Kevin Mitchell and Roman Martinez, among others.

Should be a semi-walkover for Gamboa, though you should always beware the Colombians. A Gamboa win sets him up for another quick return to the ring on April 3, where he'll main event Shobox from Primm, Nevada.

Gamboa-Estrada will be part of a killer Friday Night Fights tripleheader along with Richar Gutierrez-Jesus Gonzalez and Breidis Prescott-Humberto Toledo.

Not sold on Gamboa

I love watching this guy. Puts punches together beautifully and I just generally like to watch the approach that Cubans have to the sport.

However, this guy is dying to get KO’d by somebody. Every fight I’ve seen except against the white kid who holds, he gets hurt bad. One of these fights he’s gonna get KO’d by someone undeserving, I may register against Gamboa in this one.

someone's gonna drill him someday

But it won’t be Estrada, probably. I really think Gamboa’s problems are less where he holds his hands and more to do with shitty balance.

Not Drilled

But he has been put down several times. And by jabs at times.

Anyone that has any decency... please let me know if the Urango-Ngoudjo's 10th round fight is over.

This

His footwork is horrible, and because of the way he punches, he has one foot in the air every time he’s in an offensive flurry. IMO, it means he’ll keep getting knocked down, but mostly keep getting back up. I don’t think he has a problem with his chin though.

I don't think I've ever seen him actually hurt

He doesn’t have a Khan problem.

LOL

Does the fact a boxer doesn't switch weight divisions during their career detract from their overall P4P ranking?

Cos I'd take Hagler over most heavies in history, P4P, and also over "6 weight world champion" Oscar De La Hoya, and Marvellous Marvin never really messed about with his weight, did he?

He has faced people who aren’t exactly heavyhanded in my opinion.

He also hasn't fought a record of light hitters

Like a lot of other guys whose promoters are trying to hide their chin problems. Collectively, his opponents have a KO% around 60%, and some of them are guys who moved down from higher weight classes.

I actually want to see Breidis Prescott in a fight. We can’t really draw too much from his KO from Khan unless you really believe he has a jab that lands like a right hook.

LOL

You mean not every fighter goes weak at the knees when a jab lands???
