Luis Garcia vs Daniel Regi. Garcia is a less heralded Cuban, simply because he defected to Ireland and did not join the Arena Box stable, but he is a former junior amateur world champion and is only 22 years old. While he doesn't have great handspeed, he seems to have good reflexes and good instincts, and he seems to hit hard. Also, he doesn't waste many punches, which is good to see from someone at his level. Somewhat of a sleeper prospect.

sleeper prospect.
And there are sure lots of those. You know whos another… this cat called “Canelo” Alvarez. I think his first name is Sauk. He’s being handled by GoldenBoy and is only like 18. Here’s his record for anyone interested:

yeah he's starting to get some more pub
At 18 he looks pretty damn good from the very little bits I’ve seen on YouTube. It’s impossible to project him much but

but there’s certainly some promise there.

I watched this fella live two weeks ago
at Lightfoot Centre, Newcastle Upon Tyne in England. He fought along with the other two defected boxers that train with him, Alexei Acosta and Mike Perez.
Garcia beat a Nigerian Commonwealth title contender, Michael Gbenga (5-5-0) on points. I must say he looked much better than in this video – and faster. He moves pretty well and dodges punches effortlessly, and as you mentioned he can throw a puch but doesn’t waste much energy. I really liked his style.
By far the best bout of the night, although Gbenga didn’t get the chance to do much, thus making it quite lopsided. I’ll be definitelly looking forward to some tougher opposition for Garcia, it’ll be good to see how he fights under pressure. I think (and hope) they’ll have a few more fights over here so we can see them more. The guy who trains them is Glenn McCrory (embraces Garcia at 5:22 in the video), I trained in his gym for a while, he’s quite a nice character. Ex-cruiserweight IBF champion – I think.
Acosta didn’t fight long, he stopped his opponent in the first with a body shot so we didn’t get to see him much. We were waiting for perez to throw some fireworks in the final bout, but with his opponent running around and covering up there was not much to see :(
I suppose they need to fight less known boxers in their early bouts, but I can’t help wanting to see them against some more serious opponents!
Lets hope for some more competitive bouts next time :)
