Uppercut Pryce. Hall’s a hometown boy. If I recall Pryce was one of Enzo Calzaghe’s fighters that fell apart after a hot start. Nice left hook by Pryce. He looks much quicker of hand than does Hall. They’re bringing some solid first round action. Pryce with a combo, and another one following a jab. Hall starts banging away on the inside, hitting the arms when targeting the body and landing a glancing blow upstairs. Hall with a hard jab, then goes to the body.

Martinez comes in, Cook ties him up and takes some pot shots. Body shot by Rocky. Jab by Cook. Cook to the body with a right. Martinez seems a little more laid-back than you might like, but it’s the first round.
Now they bang a little, Cook with some body shots. Cook holding him behind the head and throwing to the body, no call, but that’s just how the English refs are a lot of the time. Pryce got hit behind the head 10 times earlier.

Cook throwing with some purpose, and stings Rocky with a nice right uppercut. Martinez looks a little tight to me. He’s just being beaten to the punch most of the time. But there’s a right from Martinez. Very tactical fight thus far. If you looked at their records and made a stereotypical guess it would be what’s transpired thus far. Body shot from Rocky.

Awkward slick
Throws like 30 punches a round, one big looping shot at a time. Keeps his hands low and tries to avoid punches with body movement. Decent but not great puncher. Kind of flat footed.

Afolabi snapping the jab right after the bell. Jab, jab, jab. Macca is just swatting it down. Pretty much Afolabi snapping the jab that does nothing for the entire first half of the round. Enzo throws some purposeful shots there, and Afolabi resets.
Vicious body shot by Macca, and Afolabi resets once again. Enzo with a couple shots, and Afolabi plays to the crowd at the end of the round despite doing absolutely nothing of note at all. I mean I guess he avoided getting hit much.

Afolabi showboats some more. The jab has gone away this round and he’s trying to be cuter. Macca catches him open, and there are some heavy shots. Afolabi with a clubbing right.

Ola bends back with a Matrix move to avoid a shot, and then he gets caught. Ola REALLY playing it up. Macca might let him get into his head. I mean Ola is a clown in there. Defensively Afolabi can be quite fun to watch, and he’s keeping Enzo from finding much in the way of combination punching. There’s a right from Afolabi. I think he’s pulling some momentum. Maccarinelli throwing now. Ola is luring him to the ropes and waiting to throw one from left field. Right hand misses, and Ola just starts playing around with Macca’s mind again. I say this in the nicest way: Afolabi is a fuck in the ring.

Maccarinelli-Afolabi R5
Maccarinelli with two left hooks (head and then body). Now he’s throwing a bit more, letting it go. Afolabi is taking this all wonderfully, however. His chin is really quite good. Enzo can punch.
Right hand Ola, and they trade a little. Four shots from Maccarinelli in close. Uppercut and a left hook from Macca. He’s smothering now. Three more shots. Ola seems to love this leaning game. Macca takes another round to get some momentum back I think.

Afolabi pretty much took that round off
and Macca got a lot of good work in to the body. I suspect that will affect Ola’s slickness later in the fight.

Pretty ugly fight, really, but not uninteresting. Rather it’s quite interesting to watch Afolabi’s style at work. THREE big shots from Maccarinelli, and Afolabi barely shows any response. Body work again. Uppercut and a left hook as Afolabi holds a tight, high guard with the gloves. Rest of the round is Afolabi laying and praying basically.

Afolabi working to the body inside, then tries an overhand right. These guys are right on one another. Afolabi working more this round, but then with about 40 seconds left Enzo starts firing and landing some decent shots. Tough round to score.

Maccarinelli-Afolabi R8
Good jab by Maccarinelli. Afolabi has turned this into a bit of a stinker. Maccarinelli trying to work from distance now, but he feels the breeze of an Afolabi right and goes back to the skull rubbing. Afolabi has done a decent job proving he’s a solid opponent in this fight, but what more is there than that? Maccarinelli has won most of this fight and Afolabi has all but given him some of it.

Afolabi’s tape is coming loose for the second time. While there’s a moment I should note that Macca is looking a bit tired in there. I don’t know that it’ll play into much, but it’s worth noting.
Afolabi winging shots. There’s an uppercut and Macca backs down. His exhaustion MIGHT play into this, and soon. Macca backed down AND HOLY SHIT HE GOES DOWN ON A MONSTER RIGHT! A MONSTER RIGHT! IT’S CALLED OFF! HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!

Afolabi showed a lot of heart there, and I wish him the best, despite fucking up my boxing picks record. Glad I hesitated and didn’t put money on that fight.
I picked Afolabi
because even though it seemed like he did not have a lot of power he had never been stopped and I had a hunch that he could hold up against Enzo’s power and come on later. I think I was a round off, I believed I picked the 10th.

Those scores seem a bit wide compared to what I had read. Heard Abraham looked like crap most of the fight.

I picked up around Rd 4
So I can’t speak to the first part of the fight. I think Simon clearly won rounds 8 and 9, and there was one (maybe two) relatively nondescript where I think he outworked him.
Abraham’s defense was really, really tight, but he was getting clipped some. Still, it looked to me like he was firmly in control.

Maybe I heard different things, but Barrera got boo’ed unanimously and Khan fot cheered. To my ears at least.

Khan misses two shots right off. Throwing his hands, though, and keeping his gloves high. Barrera short on a left hook. Man Khan just towers over Marco.
Marco misses an uppercut. Jab from Khan. Right misses from Khan. Barrera wobbled a bit in a firefight at center ring. Right hand Barrera, Khan shoots back with two punches. Khan looks fast as always. He’s such an offensive talent. Barrera blocking a lot of it and slipping a bunch of the rest, too.
Barrera wobbled, and that cut from Jan. is opened up already. Terrible idea, that fight. Khan is all over him with his speed and reach advantages.
Right hand Khan, Barrera wobbled again. I just don’t think MAB can find him looking at this. We might be watching a legend go. Khan looks totally in control.
Barrera takes shots at the end of the round. That’s a lot of blood.

Khan-Barrera R2
Barrera might get desperate and fast.
Khan using his speed, moving around the ring, charging in and throwing, and he’s out so fast that Barrera just can’t do anything with him. This is a genuine physical mismatch so far. Khan digging to the body and dancing back out. Three jabs from Khan. Barrera probably should’ve stayed retired.
Khan unleashing shot after shot, and NAILS Barrera with a right! Left hook from MAB isn’t even close. They’re wondering why Barrera’s corner didn’t do more with the cut; it’s not a cut you’re going to stop from bleeding. It’s on his hairline basically.
Khan is just way too fast for MAB. Barrera keeps having to cover up and he throws one wild left hook. Left hook does land this time, and Khan takes it pretty well.

Barrera stalking in the first minute, but Khan is moving around well, and now he charges with a flurry. Barrera on the ropes and gets his head rocked around before Khan lets him off. Barrera trying to get rough inside. He has to. If ever there was a time for MAB to show his trademark dickishness, it might be now.
Khan flurries again. Blood is pouring down Barrera’s face, just pouring out of the gash. Khan lays into him again. In, punches, out, reset, in, punches, out, reset. Barrera has done nothing.

Barrera looks like he’s just trying to time Khan now. Khan is just all over him though. Left hook by Khan stings Barrera. Khan showboating a bit now. And he’s ready to finish Barrera, it would seem. He’s coming hard this round.
The action is stopped and they’re looking like they’re going to stop this thing. Barrera’s pointing at the cut, they’re talking.
Barrera’s going to FIGHT ON! Jesus, that is unreal pride.
And he’s cracked right off. Barrera has to make a charge. Khan keeping him at bay with good shots. He’s rocking MAB’s head around pretty hard. This is a total physical mismatch. I can’t say that enough. I’m not sure what this REALLY proves about Khan, but he looks a lot better here than he did against Michael Gomez, and that’s a fairly similar opponent all things consdiered.

I’m really pretty surprised this is going on. Khan charges him pretty quickly again. It’s all hand speed and footwork. He’s been excellent. Barrera is out of his depth.
They tie it up at mid-ring, Khan gets the better of it as he has all night. Khan chases him into the corner and pounces, then moves back out. He probably could have finished Barrera off there had he wanted to. Khan stung with a right! Khan firing back though, and finds his range again. Barrera’s moment was only that: a moment.
They’re going to look at the cut again. There’s no way this keeps going.
They’re stopping it.
