Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Tyson Fury vs Daniel Peret. Fury's been getting a lot of hype as the next big thing in the UK (literally the next big thing, as he's 6'8"), but there's a LOT he has to work on, to say the least. Keeps his hands low and his chin high, throws a lot of punches with little to no intent, not in the best shape in the world. He is big, and does have good handspeed, so he'll have a lot of time to remedy these things, but he's still very raw. He's already calling out the top British heavyweights, but I have a feeling he'd get murdered at this point.

I can't even stand looking at my beer belly in the mirror

So after five seconds of Big Foot, scratch that that’s an insult to the Big guy, after watching that hairy dude those five seconds were it for me.

Big boy, big ego

Agree with brickhaus I’d like to see how he shapes up, but right now all I see is a 20 year old baby with a really long reach. I hope his skills can catch up with his ego. If not I suppose somebody will have to knock some sense into him.

Also this video makes me want to yell at him to pull his pants up.

It's like looking into a Tye Fields mirror

this guy looks like another Tye Fields right now if you turned Tye around and made him a righty.

Reminds me of Gerry Cooney..minus the punching power. Thats my problem with him..he dont bang hard for his obvious size. But he is learning..

haha i would thinking the same thing. its the green trunks and hands down.

if he had a left hook anywhere in the ballpark of a cooney or even tommy morrison then he would be s someone to watch for sure.

Be fair lads, he’s had 4 pro fights (won them all against decent opposition [decent for your first fights anyway]) and gets in better shape with every fight he has – he’s fighting regularly, and he’s not too shabby in the skills department.

He’s one to keep an eye on, he could go either way.

Yeah, he has had another fight since this one, and looked in better shape

Kept his hands up better, didn’t have that Bambi-legs thing going on. They are working hard with him, and keeping him busy too. Let’s see where he is after 10 or 15 fights.

Also, I’m not trying to say any of his opponents were great, but he has been in with experienced, tough fighters. They may not be that good, but there have been plenty of fighters who have taken easier routes in their first few fights.

Does the fact a boxer doesn't switch weight divisions during their career detract from their overall P4P ranking?

Cos I'd take Hagler over most heavies in history, P4P, and also over "6 weight world champion" Oscar De La Hoya, and Marvellous Marvin never really messed about with his weight, did he?

Absolutely

There are three things that jump out about him:

- He has some physical gifts and is still very young

- He’s taken on very tough opposition for a kid who’s just starting, especially considering that he doesn’t have extensive amateur experience

- He and his dad have gigantic mouths. For those not paying attention to the UK scene, he’s already called out Skelton and Williams and those guys, and his dad came out and said he’s already better than George Foreman.

A lot of the hype behind him IS in his name – his dad, Gypsy John Fury, was a journeyman boxer who fought for the Commonwealth title, and his dad named him after Mike Tyson. Still, he’s someone to watch out for. The obvious comparison is our own super tall super young heavyweight that just turned pro, Deontay Wilder. Both have a long ways to go, and both have their pros and cons. Fury has a much sturdier base and probably will be able to develop more power long-term. Wilder is quicker and moves a bit better. Both make a lot of the same mistakes at this point and both need to do a lot of work on their bodies to become viable against better opponents, but if both do well, it could be a matchup that may be very interesting down the line.

I'm sorry

But I really, truly don’t see it with this kid. I really don’t. He seems like another awkward big-galoot who punches well under his weight. I was trying to find something I liked about him, and the only thing I could come up with is “Well, he’s tall.” Very tall. Tall-as-Tye Fields tall. Tye Fields. Hrmmm.

As for Peret, does anyone here remember George “The Animal” Steele?
