so all three of the highlighted fighters should have a tougher time with these guys than their most recent opponents right?

Yordan’s sheet has more question marks then the Riddler’s laundry. I’m surprised they bothered to weigh him.

The statement about the trunks at the beginning is wrong, the guy who looks Indonesian is Yordan.

Looks like Julio has hgis "I'm an opponent" face on
I bet Rafael feels like an idiot naming him prospect of the year. Thought it was a dumb move at the time, looks even dumber now. He’s just not very good at picking out talent.

I'm guilty of Khan too
I’ve always thought Julio was a lot of fun to watch but never got the hullaballoo. Now Khan was my Yuri Gamboa. I thought he was gonna be the shiiiiit. Oops.

I'm personally going to have a lifetime high bet;
on MAB knocking him the fuck out.
I know, Barrera isn’t the fighter he once was. But Khan has never been anything, really, has never beaten anyone, has gone over too many times against fighters who wouldn’t be deemed fit to lace Barrera’s gloves, and been wobbled by Prescott’s jab before getting blown out.
Yes, Khan is faster, bigger, maybe even hits harder. But Barrera is still, er.. Barrera. I’d have Barrera to beat Prescott, and I’d have Prescott to destroy Khan again.
So what I’m saying, really, is that given my recent form, you should have your house on Amir….
Does the fact a boxer doesn't switch weight divisions during their career detract from their overall P4P ranking?
Cos I'd take Hagler over most heavies in history, P4P, and also over "6 weight world champion" Oscar De La Hoya, and Marvellous Marvin never really messed about with his weight, did he?

he sure does have his ‘opponent’ face on. From the look of that picture I’d say Julio’s biggest weakness is his belief. Kirk knows he’s going to win this fight. Julio’s going to have to convince him otherwise, which isn’t unrealistic…unless Julio thinks it’s unrealistic.
by lcollins1 on Mar 7, 2009 5:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well Julio has one thing going for him… he has legit knockout power. I have lingering doubts about both fighters. Whoever has the better chin will win this fight in my opinion and the fact that Julio went down to the always gritty and game Cosme Rivera when he was a welterweight kinda reenforces that my belief that he will be in more trouble if he gets hit flush.

Who can’t find something to love about a big fat guy that punches hard and is totally content to be the King of the 4 Rounders? If he wasn’t just an even fatter shell of his former self I’d watch Butterbean-Valuev.

It’s a little too much, which pisses me off because it’s got a great, cliche villain idea and some good performance. I still like it. Live Free or Die Hard ruled. Pure homage and awesomeness. Better than Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull at any rate (which was OK but pissed me off in the last 15 minutes).

Guerrero-Yordan R1
Guerrero working his left. Lennox, twenty seconds into the fight, says of Yordan, “You don’t know much about him but he looks good right now. He’s got a good stance.” Seriously, get fired.
Both guys bouncing around, Yordan with a right and then eats a left. Guerrero backs him down with a clubbing left. Guerrero blatantly hits Yordan in the back of the head on a hold. Just a little patter shot but a dick move. Guerrero is kind of a dick fighter. I like him.
Sloppy first round really. Yordan isn’t afraid to try to work his way in on Guerrero, whose power has pushed Yordan back a couple times. Not much in the way of clean punches landing. Yordan with a right that glances and a left hook that doesn’t land flush, Guerrero not hurt but Bob calls him “rocked.” Lennox rightly (!) says Guerrero has no respect for Yordan.
Guerrero 10-9, but a close round

Guerrero-Yordan R2
Yordan throwing some nice combos. I don’t think he’s hurting Guerrero but he’s definitely come to fight. Guerrero is cut. Yordan is really mixing it up in there. Guerrero’s cut is not good and it’s right over his right eye.
Time is called to check out the cut. It was an accidental clash of heads. Guerrero says he can’t see, so they’re going to call it. If a guy says he can’t see it’s over.
And it is called off. What can you do? It’s a bad cut and going right in his eye.
No Contest

Ortiz-Arnaoutis R1
Right hook from Ortiz kicks the fight off proper about 30 seconds into the round. Arnaoutis blocks him when he comes back with it a second time. Ortiz is sitting back pretty patiently. Lennox rightly (!) observes that he looks a little tight in the opening round. Arnaoutis hasn’t gotten much off. There he comes leading with two missed jabs and a missed right.
Slower first round than one might expect, but it shows that Ortiz knows Arnaoutis isn’t the washed up guys he’s been fighting. Good call, dude.

Lennox thinks it’s SILLY that a referee would worry about shoe laces being loose and too long. Max rightly (!) points out that he’s probably worried Arnaoutis trips, which can lead to someone blowing out a knee. I added the last part. it’s an understandable concern.

That’s when the ref jumped in too. His body reacted badly to it. I think that had to be what the selling point was for the ref.

Ortiz is special. He has concussive power with his punches. It is rare to see that with a fighter who is skilled enough to land with accuracy.

Kirkland has significant flaws that can be exploited by someone who is skilled enough to tag him or someone with one punch knockout power.
Julio isn’t someone who I consider very skilled but does have legit knockout power.

Kirkland-Julio R1
Kirkland starting fast, throwing rights and lefts. He backs Julio down, goes to the body. Hard left to the body. Kirkland is all over Julio to start. Julio is on his bike immediately, maybe looking to sucker him in. Right hand Julio finally. NLooked like it hurt James too. Kirkland is just chasing him around the ring.
Left hand to the body by JK. Julio winging rights, Kirkland ducking away. Jab by Kirkland, and Julio starting to warm up a bit now and throw more. Left hand Kirkland. Kirkland hit with an uppercut. Then a straight right. Then a shot to the body. Julio rallying, counter shot by JK! And Julio retreats again.
Julio with a BIG combo! Well this is what we thought it’d be. Julio is cut by his right eye from a punch. Not a bad spot, though, thank God.
Julio to the body again. And there he flurries with big shots late. Well here we go.
Kirkland 10-9

Kirkland-Julio R2
Kirkland coming out fast again. He’s just throwing his hands all over the place. Flurry to the body. Julio tries a lead right over the top, Kirkland throws about three punches. BIG right from Julio! Julio standing in the pocket and posturing now, Kirkland doesn’t bite. Julio misses a left hook but lands a short right after. Julio with a right to the body, Kirkland misses a counter left.
Kirkland with a body shot. That’s about all he’s landing right now. He’s been busy but pretty inaccurate. And now they stand and throw the big leather. Kirkland back to the body. Someone shut that wailing woman up.
Kirkland digs to the body again. That’s going to add up. Seriously, eject that woman. Enough.
Julio with a few shots at the end of the round. He’s just that half-step off so far.
Kirkland 10-9
Kirkland 20-18

Jesus, lady, shut UP. WOOO. WOOOO. WOOOO. WOOOO.
I hate this woman. I really do. She’s ruining part of my enjoyment of this fight. Just awful.
Kirkland and Julio back at square one. BIG SHOT JULIO! Kirkland is hurt! Julio unloading! Kirkland fights back! Kirk’s on wobbly legs, but he’s FIGHTING, by God! This is NASTY.
Julio hits Kirkland off balance with a right. Julio may have punched himself out a bit too. He’s going to need that rest.
Round ends. And what a fight this has been.

Kirkland-Julio R4
Kirkland warned clearly for hitting behind the head, and then Kirk throws a shot before Julio is ready to start again. Wow, amazing. It was an accident though. Ref said let’s go. Kirk goes when that happens.
Hard left to the body by Kirkland. Sneaky step-in right from Joel. And another, not as clean that time. Julio stings him again, but Kirkland has some Shane Mosley in him. So far his chin looks really good, and then when he’s hit hard, he just starts wailing. I’m becoming a bigger James Kirkland fan with this fight.
Kirkland has an answer for everything Julio does, really. It’s quite a performance so far. Julio is tiring and holding on a lot. Kirkland is just all over him at all points. He’s mauling him.
Kirkland 10-9

Kirkland-Julio R5
The eye is starting to swell a lot for Julio. Stop calling Julio “Ortiz,” Bob.
Julio with a lead right power shot. He’s really winging the bombs. Kirkland is starting to beat him up a little bit now. Kirk backs him down on a jab and then a semi-lazy left. Two dirty boxing lefts on the inside by James. Julio lands a good shot, and Kirkland lands about four. Kirkland might be getting a little too reckless, though. Max points out that his hands are dropping, and Julio can punch.
There’s a right from Julio, mostly blocked. Left hook Julio. Kirkland digs to the body again.
Kirkland 10-9
Kirkland 49-46

Kirkland-Julio R6
Max interrupts Lennox when he decides that Lennox’s train of thought has gone well off the tracks. That’s a good skill to have, I’ll say that much.
Julio keeps popping him now and then but it’s just not enough. Kirkland is attacking, attacking, attacking. Even if it’s not that genuinely effective as far as big shots go, it’s eye-popping, far more so than Julio backing down and looking for counter stuff. Julio looks like he’s getting hurt on some shots that aren’t even that big now. Yeah he’s clutching and hurt at the end of the round.
Kirkland 10-9

The way he seemed to get frustrated against Ossie Duran disappointed me. However, I think a lot of the questions about his chin that came from the Conyers fight go away after tonight. He took Julio’s biggest shots and kept coming, and Julio’s a big puncher.
