Not a whole lot going on this weekend, although we'll probably get to see Gamboa win a fake interim belt, and the undercard has what I think could be a very interesting matchup involving a good European prospect making his first U.S. television appearance. A showcase fight for sure, as Aydin throws his punches with bad intentions and Ouali is there to be hit, but it should be exciting while it lasts.

There are also several interesting untelevised fights this weekend, including Silence Mabuza vs Yonnhy Perez in a title eliminator in South Africa, a title rematch between Malcolm Klassen and Cassius Baloyi in South Africa, and the return of Prawet Singwancha on Thailand Channel 7 today. As an aside, Thailand Channel 7 appears to have live streaming, so if anyone knows how to speak Thai and can figure out how to get that to work, the info would be appreciated.

No Box Azteca, no FNF
No Box Azteca this week because Top Rank is holding it as a PPV in the US, but it’s the free fight of the week on Azteca in Mexico. I don’t know of another one until May 1, which should be a good one, featuring Urbano Antillon. FNF returns next week, which I believe is the season finale.

I think the reason there’s no FNF this week was because the Gamboa card was originally supposed to be on FNF, but they were able to beef it up and get a title involved and get it on Showtime, so ESPN wasn’t able to get a replacement, since they need to plan the schedule at least a few months in advance.

ahh alright. sometimes they show shit from other networks like the andrade fight which was aired on box azteca, so maybe the ppv will be on there for free.

If you’re close enough to the border to get the Mexican version, you should be able to watch it for free, but theoretically it should be blacked out in the US.

Top Rank PPV is $25
Anyone have any thoughts on the PPV? Will it be worth the 25 bucks,I missed out on the lightweight lightning and I’m thinking this could be a decent card.
It’s not the greatest card in the world, but it’s not a terrible deal at $25. I might buy it if there’s nothing else going on. Martinez is relatively untested and will likely get blown out by Donaire. Solis vs Viloria I expect to be a bit more competitive, though you have to favor Solis here. Viloria’s recent opponents have been weak.

I think it is a solid card but I thought the other Latin Fury PPV was a better value.
Donaire has had trouble making weight according to some, so that should make it interesting. Remember he went down in weight to face Vic and to win the title.
Solis and Viloria should be a good scrap.

It could be worth the 25 bucks, but I’m taking a pass myself.

Box Azteca
for those interested, Box Azteca will be on at 10 pm Central. The time warner tv guide doesn’t say anything about who’s on, but its only 2 hours so i doubt its the PPV. It’ll probably be the ShoBox, but for those without showtime and prefer the badass spanish commentators you can check it out on box azteca
