Pat Morita, Jay Leno and Tex Cobb in Collision Course

Man, if there were ever a movie I absolutely MUST SEE...

My two favorite Tex Cobb quotes from his fighting days:

1. During the Holmes massacre, referee Mills Lane asks Cobb, "Do you know where you are?" Cobb responds, "I'm in Reno, getting the sh*t kicked out of me."

2. "Larry Holmes doesn’t hit as hard as Earnie Shavers. Nobody hits like Shavers. If anybody hit harder than Shavers, I’d shoot him."

One of my favorite Tex Cobb tales…

In the early 80’s, IBHOF held a banquet honoring the greatest living Heavyweights In attendance were a who’s-who of lengendary fighters, including Joe Louis, Ali, and Larry Holmes. Also present were Cobb and Reynaldo Snipes (which, in itself is sort of a punchline.)

Anyway, at some point Cobb got up to make a toast, in classic Cobb style. “I’m honoured to be in the same room as some of the baddest n****rs on the planet,” said Cobb. An enraged Reynaldo Snipes immediately stood up and “I am not going to stand here and let you call me a n****r!” “Relax,” Cobb said, “I wasn’t talking about you.”

If Tex Cobb’s boxing ability was anywhere near as a sharp as his wit, he would probably be a heavyweight champion to this day. I always sort of wondered why he didn’t get into Pro Wrestling. WWF was a little too PG for Cobb back in the 80’s, but he wouldnt have even needed a script. He would have just ad-libbed the whole thing and had everyone rolling in the aisles.

Leno-Morita, finally together!

This is a great movie, especially when Morita jumpkicks an oncoming car.

I think Tex Cobb’s greatest moment as an actor is in Fletch 2, where he shares a jail cell with Fletch. When Fletch asks him what he is in for, Cobb’s answer is priceless.

Suffice to say, it involves a dead horse.
