Brian Viloria-Ivan Calderon Unification in the Works
PR Best Boxing seem to be quite interested in a unification bout between undefeated Ring Magazine titleholder Ivan Calderon and titleholder Brian Viloria. [They] also revealed that the Rivera brothers are already in deep negotiations with Mexican fighter Giovanni Segura, which may also become a unification bout for May 23rd of this year. The date is quite uncertain because I keep reading that TopRank might opt to move Ivan Calderon to the Garden the same night of the Joshua Clottey and Miguel Cotto face-off. I have yet to buy my tickets for this, but if everything is a done deal in the next couple of week, I will most definetely rush to buy my ticket.
Seems like fighters have been running away from Calderon for quite some time now. I believe Segura might be the fourth or fifth fighter Best Boxing has tried to make a fight with Ivan Calderon. Perhaps is the way Ivan Calderon makes them look bad in the ring. Who knows? Yet again, if I am not mistaken, Solis was supposed to face Calderon earlier this year and decided to go a different way. Down to the canvas at the hands of Brian Viloria [he] went on Saturday/Sunday. As soon as the Solis-Viloria fight was over, I was looking forward for a fight between these two fighters from then on. Not only that, but to also see Calderon back in the ring after a somewhat stretched layoff. If you remember correctly, Calderon was out for six month after an intentional headbutt from Hugo Cazarez; which cause Calderon to receive about 45 stitches on his forehead. (Well 90 stitches because they had to restitch the wound after a month I believe.)
Vilorai fought beautifully and led me to believe that his fight was a FOTY candidate. After an impressive win, Who wouldn't mind seeing Viloria-Calderon? I sure as hell wouldn't. Confirmation for the unification fight between Brian Viloria and Ivan Calderon is to be announced durring the same week of May 23rd. Too bad this badboy won't have any TV exposure in the states since HBO has grasped May 23rd for a magnificent double header.

This would be exciting
Although the money always ends up being an issue with Calderon. He’s the biggest name in that range, but still doesn’t get much TV coverage.

Berto-Urango is May 30
Plus Calderon-Viloria won’t be on May 23, it will be announced that week supposedly. May 23 is an open date for big American fights. The only thing Rafael has listed is Toshiaki Nishioka-Jhonny Gonzalez in Mexico, plus Rafael Marquez’s comeback fight against Mauricio “Cry Baby” Martinez (his actual nickname).
