Beibut Shumenov targeting Zsolt Erdei
Beibut Shumenov's team put out a press release today that says he's targeting WBO light heavyweight titlist Zsolt Erdei after his upcoming fight:
Light heavyweight sensation Beibut Shumenov, arguably the most ambitious fighter in the world, has targeted WBO champion Zsolt "Firebird" Erdei after his May 9th IBA World title fight against former IBF super middleweight champion Alejandro "Naco" Berrio, outdoors at Khadjimukan Stadium in Shumenov’s hometown of Chimkent, Kazakhstan.
Shumenov (7-0, 5 KO) really is the most ambitious young fighter out there. He's taking on anyone he can and looking to rise exceptionally fast. His upcoming fight with Berrio is no joke. If you've never heard of "Naco," he's got a career record of 28-5 with 27 knockouts. In all five of his losses, he's been stopped. Basically you're guaranteed action and a stoppage with Berrio.
One look at Shumenov's record shows you that the ambition thing isn't just hype. He's already taken on vets like Epi Mendoza, Lavell Finger, Donnell Wiggins and Montell Griffin. Berrio is another step up the ladder, and Erdei is more or less the top of the ladder all things considered.

I can’t believe Griffin went all the way to Kazakhstan to fight.

Oh yeah... here is gif of Berrio vs Bute...

Still one of the nastier KOs I have seen and more reason why Marlon B Wright should never be a ref.

Berrio also KOed Robert Stieglitz for a title
And KOed Yusef Mack in one of the best ways ever. He rushed in, kissed him on the forehead, popped back out and nailed him with a huge hook that took out Mack.
Anyway, I hope Shumenov gets there. He says he wants to retire young, and he’s pushing himself. He also promotes all his own shows. I doubt Shumenov will get to fight Erdei (or Garay, also a Universum fighter) for the reasons stated in a previous post, but if he beats Berrio, he might jump enough in the rankings to get there. 7 fights into his career, and he’s ranked #9 by the WBO (Erdei), #8 by the WBA (Garay), he’ll get ranked by the IBF if he wins this one (Dawson is titlist, Berrio is ranked #8), #16 by the WBC (Diaconu), and just for fun, #14 by the IBO (also Dawson).

Depends on how he looks against Berrio
If I was him I would try to take a decision instead of a KO. If he knocks him out in middle rounds o way does Erdei fight him until he absolutely has to. But if he can squeak out a decision they would probably think it is another easy fight for him.
I for one am glad to see a fighter going this route. How much does good does knocking out 10-15 guys in the first 3 rounds really help a fighter progress. Hopefully he does not bight of more then he can chew though.

Berrio doesn't get decisioned
He either gets the knockout or goes down in flames. His style and his chin make sure of that.

Ah, Zsolt. Now there’s a guy you don’t see a lot of.
Not that I’m complaining.

Shumenov is driven
in a way few other boxers – or anyone else, for that matter – seem to be. He’s not wasted time padding his record, he’s promoting himself, and he appears to have very clear goals, of which his in-ring career is only a part.
The guy has basically stated that he wants to test himself (and win, of course) against the best in the world, and then he might retire and do something else, such as promote, or whatever the hell he feels like.
Funny that he’s targeting Erdei, he seems like the anti-universum
