Hatton not rushing to decide his future
Though every boxing writer in the UK and seemingly around the world is calling for Ricky Hatton to hang up the gloves, the "Hitman" himself isn't ready to make a call on his future.
Ricky Hatton opened his new boxing gym in Manchester on Monday night, but is clearly undecided as to his future plans - only revealing that he needs time to consider whether to go on fighting or hang up his gloves.
...
Ray Hatton, the fighter's father, insisted that his son will do it his way. "Richard is single minded, and once he makes up his mind that will be it. We will respect that decision and knowing him it will be final and certainly he won't be a Frank Sinatra, forever making comebacks."
It's goiing to be a while before Hatton makes up his mind, and I kind of hope people stop hounding him with all these articles, but as long as people are hounding him, I'll be paying attention and commenting on the hounding. It's a vicious cycle, y'know?
I still don't expect Ricky to leave the sport on this note. He'll want to fight again, probably in Manchester, and there will be absolutely no shortage of guys willing to fight him, particularly as they might feel he's damaged goods and they can get a win over Ricky Hatton on his home turf.

I personally think that a lot of people calling for Hatton’s retirement right now have an agenda. Big Floyd’s is pretty obvious, but I’ve heard a lot of former Hatton fans saying similar things these past couple of weeks. It seems like the idea there is “Oh Ricky just doesn’t have it anymore. He must be shot.”
Shot at 30??? Yes, it happens, but its sure as shit not very common, particularly when you’ve only lost twice (well, three if you count Collazo). It might be a way of rationalizing the Pacquiao blowout. Personally, I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t fight on if he wants to and is medically cleared to do so. He got strached pretty bad twice, but there are other fights out there for him. He just needs to get it out of his head that he is one of “The P4P Best” boxers on the planet. I personally don’t think he is, but there’s nothing shameful about just being “good” and not “great.” And he can still certainly help make a fight bigger than it normally would be.

I honestly don’t think he’s shot either. Morales was shot at 30 — Morales had been in some God awful brutal wars, and lots of them. Ricky has not. Ricky put himself in the wrong place against Manny and got obliterated. He admits it. I think he’ll be fine. We’ve seen his cap; he’s not going to take out the two best fighters of the decade. …oh no, y’know?

I think he should call it a day.
Up to the Kosta fight i mean who really hurt Ricky? Yes Magee dropped him with a counter off the ropes but Ricky stood up straight away and when caught again in the 2nd he wobbled for a few seconds and shook it off. Some other lad hurt him with a body shot before getting stopped same round but i cant remember his name , escapes me at the moment.
Kosta hit him with his best and Hatton was blastproof that night. After that fight his body seemed to react differently. Bad diet? Beer Belly inbetween fights? It will and has taken a toll on him.
Urango bent him over with body shots, Collazo had him in world of shit in that last round. Mayweather & Pac-man drop him a few times and finish the job.
If the Hatton who turned up for the Kosta fight was in there against Manny im convinced he could of handled those shots.
Jrok you said last week you think Mannys power has destroyed his chin. Does that make him shot? I dont know. As you say if he medically can fight on and wants to then so be it.
But i just dont want to see him get put away by someone like Khan. Hatton haters might -but this fan boy would hate to see it.
Sit back Rick and take it in. I believe you are good enough to enter the hall of fame one day. If Ingemar Johansson can make it, you can. Not bad for a Chav from Manchester.
Keep looking for Madeleine McCann. She is out there.
Well, I meant Manny blew up his chin in that particular fight, not necessarily “forever.” I think that Pacquiao is the hardest punching prime-fighter that Hatton has ever faced… certainly it wasn’t Floyd, even though he hits harder than some people give him credit for. Floyd lit Hatton up in round 8 of their fight with a ton of punches, but didn’t manage to knock him down. But Pacquiao hit his chin flush with shots Hatton was in no way prepared to roll with… particularly that dazzling right hook in round one.
I think Tszyu would’ve been the “hardest” puncher Hatton had ever faced if he’d been in his prime when they fought, but sometimes a single note of classical chin music is worth more than twenty verses of “Rock Me Amadeus.” The main thing I think Hatton will have to overcome is the mental part of the knockout. Getting starched with that kind of authority sometimes saps a guys confidence so bad that he fights scared and can’t really sit on his punches any more. Other guys can get over it pretty quickly and move on. I just think that remains to be seen what is left of Hatton.
