Report: Dawson-Johnson II almost done
Rick Reeno of BoxingScene.com has learned that the highly-anticipated rematch between light heavyweight titlist Chad Dawson and Glen Johnson is close to done. The two sides are waiting on a concrete date from HBO. The bout is expected to take place in the fall.
It's great to hear because frankly the ol' chicken-ometer was running pretty high when Dawson and promoter Gary Shaw loudly declared no interest in a rematch with Johnson, which is the best and biggest fight Dawson has any realistic hope of making after selling just over 2,000 tickets combined in Las Vegas for two fights with Antonio Tarver in October and May. The talks have moved quickly since Shaw and Dawson apparently realized there was really no other avenue for a fight on HBO. Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe weren't exactly banging the door down.
In other Dawson-related news, Tavoris Cloud's management may seek to get Dawson stripped of his IBF light heavyweight title should he go forward with the Johnson fight. Cloud (19-0, 18 KO) has been waiting for a shot at the belt since beating Julio Gonzalez almost a year ago. He also hasn't fought at all, instead choosing to simply sit on his ranking and wait. As much as I think he's right to use the rules to his advantage, it's not like he's done anything to make that fight more attractive for the networks to buy. No one has any idea who he is.

It seems like the stripping is imminent
In which case Tavoris Cloud would meet Clinton Woods for the IBF belt. Not a bad fight at all, and another good step up for Cloud. When Woods brings his A-game (he was clearly not close to his best against Tarver and seems to be uncomfortable with southpaws generally), he’s a tough cookie. If Cloud can get by Woods, he clearly becomes a top-10 guy in the division. Hopefully someone will pick that fight up (even if it’s just Shobox), which should be a good one.

Good.
Glen should know by now he needs the knockout… there isn’t one slim chance in hell he will win this on the cards.
As far as getting stripped, that’s fine and dandy too. I wouldn’t mind handing the ball to Cloud and seeing what he will do with it. It thought he looked damned good against Gonzales, even though that was an eternity ago.

Good for Chad.
Dawson-Johnson : Looks like Chad been listening to us all.
Woods-Cloud : I like this match up. Been watching Woods a while, strong connections to be considered for title chance so soon after that shit effort against Tarver. Clouds good, looks to damage you this could be his moment. Clint will need to be at his best.

I firmly believed
that Johnson won the first fight. I was watching the fight with a few mates, (prior to a massive bet we’d had on Tarver/Woods) and we were all up in arms over that decision. We all felt Johnson won the fight by at least a few rounds, and since none of us had any allegiance to either fighter we weren’t simply being biased, y’know?
This time round, I think Dawson wins, as Johnson has been largely inactive, and time waits for no man…..

I mean to say Dawson wins ‘again’. Freudian slip there, since in my head Johnson ‘won’ the first fight…..

Johnson still gives Dawson trouble, IMO
The same flaw that allowed Johnson to take advantage of him (I believe I had it a draw) is still there for Dawson, namely that Dawson won’t throw when his opponent is on the offensive. Johnson still looked pretty good against Judah recently. If Johnson keeps up the pressure, he has a good chance at the upset.
