Watch PPV's for free (legally)

I'm not sure if i should do this as a fanshot or a fanpost, but apparently my hunch about box azteca having the whole PPV was correct.  My time warner guide said they were airing movies during the time of the PPV, but it was wrong.  My friend's folks saw the whole PPV for free on box fuckin' azteca for free while I was here watching it for $50.  Basically, I'm posting this as a heads up: if you have box azteca and there's a PPV featuring a top rank fighter in the main event, you might want to risk not buying it and tuning in to box azteca.  the spanish announcers might suck, but it'll save you some money.

They have always done this

Believe it or not. They did it during the Cotto-Margachetto. I think they have been doing it for a couple of years. The reason, if I am not mistaken, is because since TVAzteca is a Mexican channel they try to expose the fight to the poor areas in the Mexican community. I remember Arum was talking about this in some press conference.

whoah i did not know about the cotto fight. i saw the top rank ppv on box azteca, but i assumed cuz it was a minor PPV (if there is such a thing). that makes sense about exposing fights to poorer mexico though.

so you are indeed confirming that box azteca airs PPVs for free and shit when top rank is involved right?

Not 100%

But every time I read about it all I read is that they show the undercards then suddenly they show the main event. I think the trick is that they don’t mention the main event. All they say is: we are showing the undercards from the main event. Then some how they continue with showing the main event. Think about it… I doubt there is anything to watch on Azteca. So for more rating, since most of the their ratings come from boxing, they are gonna show it somehow.

They have done this for a good while. If you live on the border( like San Diego, El Paso, South Texas) you should be able to get it for free on the air even if your cable/DirectTV/ or whatever doesn’t carry Azteca. You don’t need a converter box to get the channels. Mexico doesn’t have digital feeds.

Arum made a deal with Azteca to air the boxing no matter how big or small the event is. He made a mulimillion dollar deal from it. It is good business for both Arum and Azteca because as you notice there are sponsorships everywhere on the program. You have the commentators selling soda, you have chevy sponsoring the time, you have the Tecate chicks.
