If you think Berto will win and fight smart
Then it’s a good bet. I don’t think Berto can stop Urango. Berto’s strength is overrated, and Urango’s not afraid to fire back when he’s getting punched. If the odds for that are better than the odds for Berto winning, then it’s a good bet. Urango’s only chance of winning is by KO though, unless he does something like break Berto’s jaw like he did to Ngoudjo.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
BTW
Urango still looks like a beast. Hopefully he’s carried his strength up. Looks certainly aren’t everything when it comes to power, but it looks like he should be stronger at WW than he was at JWW, and he was a freak at JWW.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
I hope I can make it back in time for these cards. I promised to go on one of those “couple dates” tonight, with my friend who works for DC Comics and her comic-writer boyfriend. I am thinking of pitching them an idea… It’s about a peace-loving, gentle giant who everyone believes is some sort of mighty warrior, thanks to the work of a mysterious, shadowy agency. Its a comedy, suitable for ages seven and up…. very little violence involved.

Would he have any secret powers?
Like, for instance, the ability to grow body hair at an extraordinary rate?
Or to psychically alter specific people’s perception of him, and make them think he is a hero, even after he gets beaten in a fight?
Boxing is the beginning of all sports. I'm willing to bet that the first sport was a man against another man in a fight. (Omar Epps)
Yes, those are all good ideas. I am already trying to think of who could play him in the movie version. Are there any guys out there that look like Chewbacca after a bad bikini wax?

Angulo seems to be having problems getting inside Cintron's jab
The Manny Steward influence is still there I guess.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Make sure that his hands is up, Lennox?
Get someone new. Angulo is hurting Cintron.
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Angulo-Cintron R1
Cintron throwing a jab to start. Nice right to the body by Cintron. So far he’s really looking sharp. Angulo laying back, feeling Cintron out. They throw some leather, neither landing a big shot. Right to the body by Angulo. Left jab to the body by Angulo, Cintron throws a jab up top. Cintron throws another right to the body. Big counter right by Angulo! Lennox calls it a “wake-up shot.” Left hook Angulo. Right hand Angulo! And another! Cintron backing down now. Good start for Kermit, good finish for Angulo as we enter the final ten seconds. Tough round to call.
Angulo 10-9, landed the better shots, but I can see a Cintron score
Well it's hard to be fast when you're cheating.

Angulo-Cintron R2
Cintron going to the body again. I like his approach so far, honestly. Left hook thuds for Cintron. Right hand Angulo. Cintron throwing in combos. Angulo flicks a jab. Cintron flicking a jab, then misses a right over the top. Angulo is winning a lot of these exchanges, but it’s not showy, and he’s not really pressing yet. I really like how Cintron is moving around the ring tonight. He looks a lot more fluid and natural than usual. Angulo with a couple nice rights. Cintron thuds a right in return. Uppercut Cintron. Angulo landing better shots still, I think. I’m not even busting on Kermit — he’s looking better than normal, IMO, but he’s losing a close fight. Very close fight in fact.
Angulo 10-9
Angulo 20-18
Because Angulo is walking through them.

This commentating is horrible
You’d think Angulo was winning a blowout the way they’re talking. Meanwhile, Hurruld has it 20-18 Cintron.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Frankly
Cintron has been seeming to land the harder punches the last two rounds. Angulo is just like Andrade, where he doesn’t stop just because he gets hit.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
29-28 Angulo. No question a Cintron round.
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Angulo-Cintron R3
Angulo is walking through the Cintron offense thus far. It’s very Margarito-Cintron at this point. Cintron with a nice combo, not all of it lands. Right hand lands by Cintron. Cintron is moving SO MUCH BETTER than usual. I really feel that should be noted. And he’s sort of dominating this round. Big left by Cintron! That clearly hurt Angulo. I mean clearly. Even Max and Bob had to note it. Big round for Kermit. Great left ends it by the round’s victor.
Cintron 10-9
Angulo 29-28
Angulo's corner giving him great advice
He really does need to get on the inside and throw more punches. Cintron always looks uncomfortable at close range, like any former Kronk fighter.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
My dad just said that too.

Angulo-Cintron R4
Hurrld has it 3-0 Cintron. Totally defensible.
Cintron warned for a low blow? early, and he bows. Clearly inadvertant if landed at all. I’m not above being wrong and I like what Kermit’s doing tonight. I have him down but exceptionally close. The one clear round was his. Cintron hurts Angulo! Very hurt! Cintron pressing and throwing! Angulo grabs up. Alfredo’s in trouble.
Great combo by Cintron! Angulo is getting pounded on right now. He’s boxing AND landing his big shots. Great stuff from him these last two rounds especially. Cintron gets off the ropes. Angulo lands some lowish shots. Cintron backs him down again, and now they trade! Angulo’s toughness is proving out, but Kermit is taking this fight over for sure. Excellent round for Kermit Cintron.
Cintron 10-9
38-38
I have to wonder whether Cintron will slow down late though
This is by FAR the most active I’ve seen him.
Anyway, another Cintron round pretty clearly, 40-37 Cintron.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
I’ve never seen Cintron look this good. Cintron with this degree of boxing skill and poise is a scary man.
39-37 Cintron.
He's still fighting Kronk style
Upright, lots of stiff jabs, staying in the middle of the ring, clinching on the inside
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Ugh
This ref blows. Is he going to impeded every time when there isn’t even a low punch?
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Angulo-Cintron R5
Cintron throwing again this round. Angulo has zero head movement at all. His defense is terrible. I mean that’s OK when you’re that tough, but he’s just not doing much. Cintron is slowing down a bit, but I still think he’s winning this fight. I’m really watching him and just admiring the changes he’s made from his last fight.
Cintron 10-9
Cintron 48-47
Crappy round for both
I’m still going with Cintron based on splitting the gloves on hard jabs a bunch, but I wouldn’t complain if you score it for Angulo.
Vogt early, Vogt often.

Angulo-Cintron R6
Cintron jabbing again. He kind of lost that a bit last round. Good trade, both land their shots, both not totally on balance. Right hand Kermit as Angulo leans in. That right over the top from Cintron has been money tonight. Max is now saying Angulo looked drained before the fight. Three rounds ago you would’ve thought Angulo was the Second fucking Coming. The HBO bias is real — I don’t make an issue of it a lot, but come on. There are times it’s ridiculous. Angulo is landing very little this round. Cintron has him way off his game.
Cintron 10-9
Cintron 58-56
i've been talking about the hbo bias for about 15 years now.
its really nothing new.
by sonofapsycho on May 30, 2009 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Angulo picked it up for the first minute
But Cintron dominated the rest of the round. 60-55 Cintron. I’m really surprised at how good Cintron has looked.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
I never like to say Lennox is right
But Kermit is repeatedly doing the Jersey Joe shoulder weave…
Gimme 1 round!
Cintron-Angulo R7
Man Cintron is dominating this fight at this point. He keeps getting warned for low blows that I just do not think are low. Tellis is…not a very good ref lately. He’s been lame. Cintron is owning the ring. Controlling distance, and now he’s got Angulo going southpaw as a possible prayer to find a heavy shot or two. The right jab does seem to be working a bit, but Cintron is outlanding him double now. Angulo putting on the ropes and throwing! Cintron moves out after ducking really well. Wow, Cintron was even scoring there. This is THE BEST I’ve ever seen from Kermit Cintron. Consider me impressed.
Cintron 10-9
Cintron 68-65
Angulo would do well to stay southpaw the rest of the fight if he feels comfortable doing it
Martinez’s southpaw stance seemed to really confuse Cintron, and he had his best 30 seconds of the fight when he turned southpaw.
Anyway, still a Cintron round, though Angulo came close to stealing it.
70-64 Cintron
Vogt early, Vogt often.
7-1 Cintron
But Angulo carried most of the 2nd half of the round. I don’t think giving it to Angulo is out of the question
Gimme 1 round!
I honestly think
The reason Cintron looks so good tonight is because Angulo is so easy to hit. Cintron seems to hesitate trying to find a good shot a lot of the time. With Angulo, a good shot is always there, so he throws a lot more punches.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
But he’s been boxing REALLY well too. The movement to neutralize Angulo’s pressure has been fabulous.
Cintron is fading a little bit.
77-75 Cintron
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Cintron-Angulo R8
Cintron still landing the better shots, even though Angulo is throwing. He’s just not landing the real good shots he usually does. And Cintron’s defense and boxing get credit for that. Ronnie Shields has done a great job. Angulo’s lack of hand speed and defense has killed him tonight.
Angulo takes a moment to get his tape fixed. He’s done better this round and it was close, but I’m leaning Kermit at this point. I think maybe Kermit’s gassing, but I hesitate to say so.
Cintron 10-9
Cintron 78-74
First round I score for Angulo
But you could still score it for Cintron. I don’t think it would be inconcievable to have it scored a Cintron shutout so far.
79-74 Cintron
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Angulo was about to give up his back for that arm triangle and....oh...
Good body shot by Angulo.
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!

Cintron seems to be running out of juice
He’s not moving anymore, now he’s coming in and clinching
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Cintron is Jermain Taylor with punching power
Just fades in a fight he’s winning in the later rounds.
86-85 Cintron
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Getting really sloppy now
He may have punched himself out a bit. Angulo didn’t do anything that great, but it was the first truly clear round for Angulo.
88-84 Cintron
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Cintron-Angulo R9
Both guys seem to be tiring a bit. Cintron’s jab, even when it’s not totally effective, is making a difference. Nice left hook from Kermit near the end of the round. This has been a good fight and I’m probably not doing it justice, but well, Maker’s Mark. Buffalo Trace.
Angulo 10-9, Cintron feels like he’s fading out and it’s getting sloppy
Cintron 87-84
Cintron looks much fresher to start this round
But he’s still clinching. Not a great sign.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Good round
Both guys gave it their all that one. I do think Cintron took it based on landing the cleaner punches and better ring generalship.
98-93 Cintron
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Tempted to give it to Cintron...and I will.
96-94 Cintron.
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Cintron-Angulo R10
Right hand over the top there two more times for Cintron. Right from Cintron. Cintron still going to the jab even though it’s much lazier than usual. Angulo wins a close round again. Cintron’s getting hurt in there. Gradually, but surely.
Angulo 10-9
Cintron 96-94
I’ve still been far more impressed with Kermit than I have Angulo.
I think Cintron is controlling the early action of each round
but it takes more out of you to go backwards… He should drive Angulo into the ropes and infight him
Gimme 1 round!
Angulo is just dining on those jabs

Angulo-Cintron R11
Cintron throwing the big right again after his jabs. Now he purposely ties up out of nowhere. He’s gassing out. Angulo throws a right that misses. Cintron very much slowing. This is getting closer as it goes along. Kermit’s stock has raised either way, but it’s up for grabs IMO.
Angulo 10-9
Cintron 105-104
I think Angulo took that round narrowly
Angulo’s corner wants him to go for the KO. On my scorecard, he needs it.
107-103 Cintron
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Cintron is winning this in a rout
Though many of the rounds look closer than they are because Angulo walks through big punches. Librado Andrade effect is in action
Gimme 1 round!
Angulo wins that round to me...barely.
105-104 Cintron
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Angulo-Cintron R12
Cintron jabbing to start. I think he feels he’s ahead and if all of us are right, he is. He can box this round like he did earlier perhaps. Angulo coming out to throw. Angulo tied up by Cintron again. Left hook by Angulo. Uppercut by Cintron skims Angulo, who’s still throwing. Half the round over.
Cintron drilled with a right. Right to the body by Angulo. Cintron purposely holding and Tellis tells him next time it’s a point. Angulo winning the round with 40 seconds left. Cintron with a right, but the left is low. Cintron is hurt maybe! But he throws the jabs and a big right! Angulo with a right! RIGHT BY CINTRON! Great closing battle! Left from Cintron! Right Cintron! Oh what a fight we got out of this one. Damn good.
Angulo 10-9
114-114
Great round!
I have it even.
114-114
In other words: I want a rematch.
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Good 12th round
Gave the 12th to Cintron again. It was ugly, but he’s the one who landed the clean punches there.
117-112 Cintron
Vogt early, Vogt often.
I have Cintron in a blowout
9-3. Compubox will show Cintron badly outlanded him I think.
Gimme 1 round!
Big ups to Kermit Cintron from me. Fought better than I’ve ever seen, boxed pretty well, moved well, ate some good shots, and proved out some toughness I didn’t think he had. Good for him. If he wins this fight, I have no problem with it.
I'm with Brick
Though I gave Angulo the 12th based only on Cintron holding. He did land the only clean punches

Yes
North Florida is redneck as hell… I know a guy from Lake City, Fl… He’s the most hillbilly dude i’ve ever met. Another guy from Jacksonville also extremely redneck
Gimme 1 round!

Berto looks teriffic.
I don't hate Kendall like everybody else, I'm a non-conformist like that.

Urango is designed to make Berto look terrific
Until Urango catches him with a huge punch that knocks him out.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
agreed.
I think Berto will win the UD… Though Urango might drop him in the middle rounds

Berto-Urango R1
Berto’s speed is evident within 20 seconds. Urango is so fun, like a video game fighter. He looks massively wide at 147, same as 140. Berto landing a jab almost at will as Urango bobs around. Right hand Berto. And another. So far he’s just boxing and staying back while Urango postures. Berto throwing big shots, Urango gets him in close, Berto throws a big uppercut and they collide heads. Slow lead left from Urango isn’t even close to landing. Easy round for Andre.
Berto 10-9
southpaws
lead with their face
its not rocket science. lennox and max are sounding like this is the first time this has ever happened.
Berto-Urango R2
Berto throwing a wicked right, dancing some to start the round. Two rights Berto, but he’s caught off balance and a glancing left staggers him a bit. One of Urango’s leaping power shots might’ve been perfect there. Big right Berto! Nothing for a response from Urango. Probably didn’t land totally clean, either, but I don’t think Berto — the slightly bigger man — can dent Urango. Hatton couldn’t come close at 140. Urango is finding himself too close on his lunges.
Berto 10-9
Berto 20-18
A boring fight is a winning fight for Berto
An exciting fight means Urango wins.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
lol
urango is bald bull charging him.

This punch and hug crap should be left to the heavyweights.
30-27 Berto
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Berto-Urango R3
Urango cannot beat Berto without a KO, which we all knew, really, but DOWN GOES URANGO! Right hand shot did it. That was mid-sentence, so sorry. Might have had a foot step too. But it’s scored a knockdown. Andre is really doing well to show some discipline. A firefight with Urango is the last thing he wants, and he appears to know it.
Berto 10-8
Berto 30-26
Punching and hugging by Berto makes me annoyed.
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Berto-Urango R4
That lunging uppercut by Berto almost scores big. Urango is throwing and HERE WE GO a little over halfway in. Urango might’ve gottne the better of that exchange, but I’m not sure. Nice right by Berto. Urango gets him off balance again. This is getting good. Left hand Berto clips Urango, who is just too slow. Good round. Good card so far.
Berto 10-9
Berto 40-36
This round leaned to what Urango wants though.
urango
throwing more and landing more what he need to do of course.
urangos head movement is totally gone and hes walking into shots though
These announcers have got a Berto bias going on
Hey a fight broke out in round 4.
40-36 Berto
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
somebody needs to tell him
next time you’re fighting somebody that fast… It pays to spend the first 4 rounds beating their body up to slow their movement
Gimme 1 round!

Berto-Urango R5
Berto with a great left early in the round. Urango is all guts and muscle. That’s it. I love watching the guy. Berto is able to hide his technical flaws against Urango. Left hook and a right by Berto. I like both of these guys but this is tailor-made for Berto.
Berto 10-9
Berto 50-45
max just might as well get his kneepads ready
i dont think i gave my gf more compliments in my life than he just did berto
Max? Kneepads? Never.
He’d much rather prove his love by doing it without any artificial assistance
Gimme 1 round!

Berto-Urango R6
Urango starting to press to the body more. Lennox has been solid tonight. He notes that Urango just can’t land on Berto. He can’t do it unless he slows Berto down. Not rocket science, but a step up for Lennox, so yay! Firefight now! Urango landing some, and Berto lands back. Left hand Urango appears to sting Berto at the bell.
Berto 10-9
Berto 60-54
this is the time
where urango is going to win some rounds and bust him up some.
should be getting more interesting.
maybe
I guess we have proof...
147 is undoubtedly the best division in the sport. A 140 legit titlist is getting demolished by an Alphabits belt holder at 147
Gimme 1 round!
this proves little about 147
It’s a good division, but wildly overrated.
by Scott Christ on May 30, 2009 11:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Mayweather, Mosley, Plasterhands, Berto, Collazo, Cotto, Clottey, Tall Paul, Quintana… the division is certainly the most top heavy.
This doesn’t include Pacman who can fight there too
Gimme 1 round!

Berto-Urango R7
Urango catching Berto a little on the ropes and in the corner. If Berto gets lazy he could get in trouble. Quick uppercut by Berto, then he holds. He does hold a lot. That’s slightly less Mosley-ish than his other attributes. Urango is just out of this fight now.
Berto 10-9
Berto 70-63
70-63 and this fight is getting boring
I’ll be 0-2 in picks tonight.
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Berto-Urango R8
Berto backing him up and landing power shots halfway into the round. Honestly I’m kinda bored — not bored, but just, y’know, this is exactly what I expected without the firefight I hoped for. Berto’s just beating him on athleticism and natural ability. Urango is doing all he can, and it ain’t much.
Berto 10-9
Berto 80-72
Berto-Urango R9
Urango cannot do it tonight without a crazy shot. He’s capable of that, maybe, but he also couldn’t one-punch Herman Ngoudjo. He’s so much faster than Urango it’s just a total outclassing. There’s little more to be said.
Berto 10-9
Berto 90-81
Berto-Urango R10
More of the same this round. That fast right for Andre has been there all night because Urango just can’t do anything about it.
Berto 10-9
Berto 100-90
I can almost hear him salivating.
Gimme 1 round!

Sugar Ray Leonard?
WTF Max. I’d NEVER heard that comp until you just invented it. Meldrick Taylor I’ve heard because of his handspeed.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
right?
I’ve heard lots of Mosley and Jones, some Taylor, never Leonard. Never.
by Scott Christ on May 30, 2009 11:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Berto-Urango R11
Left hand Urango, Berto ties up as he’s stuck in the corner. And Berto turns out of it and moments later lands an uppercut. I know it takes work to make a fight this easy, but relatively speaking, Berto hasn’t had to work too hard tonight.
Berto 10-9
Berto 110-99
110-99
Max Kellerman should do a strip tease.
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
120-108
I won’t wait for the fight to end.
Seattle Seahawks: We've got Brian Russell and TWO kickers!
Berto-Urango R12
Max is def. in love with Berto. Crazy in love. Berto still has a little to prove. Not a lot, just a little. But it’s time to just get it going. He’s either going to make it at 147 or not. Good performance by Andre, but in a way a gimme fight. Urango did what he could, but it wasn’t close to enough.
Berto 10-9
Berto 120-108

Hey, two decent fights. Cintron really impressed the hell out of me tonight. He looked worlds better than he did against Martinez. Mostly very focused and controlled. Alright, Kerm!
I wish they didn’t harp so much on Berto’s “marketability”…. Hey HBO, he is your fighter! Besides, Urango has a head made of cast iron. Berto gave it a shot early on with those counter right uppercut, but then played it pretty safe. The holding was plenty annoying, though.
"This fight'll be the nastiest thing you'll ever see. I been sober for six weeks, and that makes me vicious."
-- Randall 'Tex' Cobb
I knew it was too early to give up on Kermit
Though as I’ve said a million times i’d be more than happy to see him go to MMA where he would have an unmatched pedigree in his boxing and a competitive level of wrestling… He can still do fairly well in the boxing world.
Gimme 1 round!

the story of the lip scar
I don’t know if everyone knows the story, but Max bit through the cord of a family clock and the current fused his lips together. The surgery to repair it left the scars he has now.
A columnist joked it was the only time he had his mouth shut in a piece he did on Max when he got the HBO job.
Weird accident.
